Would rather pay the £70 more for a RTX 4070. DLSS and frame gen are huge bebefits.
    VonKlinkerhoffen's avatar
DLSS and fake frames won't help when you don't have enough VRAM and revert to system RAM. Results in a stuttering mess i.e. a powerpoint slideshow.

The 3070 is a joke of a joke of a joke at its current selling price. And the 'affordable' version- the 3060TI- is very cut down and still way too expensive. The 6800 is also good in SENSIBLE RT algorithms compared to the 3070.

The coming 4060TI, a cut-down 4070, better be 12GB (every leak sez 8GB), else it will be the most DOA GPU in graphics history, and AMD will see record sales of the cheaper 6800 variants.

Interestingly, the 6800 is a very cut down version of the die, though keeping the 256-bit bus, and hence the 16GB of VRAM. The large drop in specs is because the full die was made for 4K, but the extra ROPS, shaders and TMUs aren't really needed for 60fps 1440p gaming, as the graphs above prove.

Having no 16GB VRAM cards below 1000 dollars, Ngreedia is dead in the water for future-proof 1440p gaming with either the 3000 or 4000 series, and this is just beyond belief.

The 3060 Ti founders edition was probably the best bang for your buck when it first released. 369 quid for 2080 levels of performance.

Nice card but is not worth paying £100 more and geting a 4070? For DLSS 3.. (edited)

The issue is the consoles have effectively 16GB of VRAM across their platform (RAM and VRAM basically shared).

12GB may be an issue for console developed games and with ray tracing (which also pushes VRAM).

Maybe 16GB is safer? No one really knows at this point but I personally wouldn't pay over £500 for 12GB VRAM.

    Your money though, obviously

Bought a 6750XT same model for £100 cheaper. The 6800 is 12% faster in 1080p, 17% faster in 1440p while being 28% more expensive. Tbf the 6800 does have 4GB extra VRAM and uses 8% less power than the 6750XT but for £100 extra I don't think it's worth it. Still a great deal regardless

yeah I'm in a similar situation (6700xt) and cards like this don't really seem good enough to warrant the upgrade cost. having said that, this deal seems pretty good for people on older cards looking for a new one perhaps but it does feel a bit like we might be at the beginning of a 'correction' in gpu prices so would be tempted to hang on a bit longer if i was in that boat.

4060Ti wont be as fast as this, and it's only gonna have 8GB of VRAM. All for what's likely to be a similar price, as Nvidia tries to sell you a genuine low end part for over £400.

As for 7700XT, we genuinely dont have any (credible) information on it yet. It's pretty easy to guess it'll be Navi 32, and we can also safely guess that AMD will want it to decently outperform the 6700XT, so it wont be super cut down, but will it be cut down at all, or fully enabled? And positioned where? Could be anywhere from like $450 to $650. Plus we dont know when it's actually gonna release(the info that it's coming this month is not from credible sources - this doesn't mean it wont, it's obviously somebody trying to make a 'safe guess passed off as insider information' but it doesn't mean you should treat it as credible info).

Overall, I think this is probably a pretty good purchase if you're looking for last gen high end performance for a sane price.

I'll save this comment for when the benchmarks come out - I think the 4060 Ti will come out within 5% of this card performance wise (edited)

Wait......see what the prices are after Computex.
(I am sure they will be reduced after Computex, end of May beginning of June).

PS: I do not have a crystal ball, but i can read tea leaves like a pro.

I've looked at this several times as a replacement for my 3080 10gb for the extra VRAM for the longterm but keep changing my mind :/ I love my 3080 but the VRAM makes me nervous for the future. (yes I'm aware this card is a little slower). Great deal though
    plewis00's avatar
If I were in your position, I wouldn't regress in performance, I'd probably get current gen or an RTX 3090 from CEX or something (under £700 now).
  9. Roph's avatar
    Still £100 overpriced
    Somersett's avatar
Yep- but in a buyer's market, with new product coming from AMD and Nvidia, the price of this card and others are going to fall quite quickly week by week. The real question is the likely bottom price of the 6800 within a decent time period. A lot will depend on whether the 4060TI proves to be an 8GB card or 12GB. If 8GB, Nvidia needs to be carted off to the looney bin.

A lot of card for the money. Heat.
  11. Adamsk1's avatar
Think these cards are gonna need to be £429 ish to make them a worthwhile option today. 4060ti, 4070, 7700XT etc and even the 6800XT will all be fighting it out between £450-550 soon enough. If mid range is your budget, I’d wait for all options to hit the shelves first

    How soon is soon?

No idea what AMD are doing, they haven't released or announced a 7800 or 7700 but instead are releasing a 7600(XT) at the end of this month apparently

I think if people want something now to enjoy, buy now stop worrying too much and if you want a good deal buy 2nd hand from someone with great feedback (ideally 200+ on eBay) (edited)

This is the worst time to buy a graphics card in history. Prices are literally going one way from here, and it's not up.

Price pressures from covid and chip fabrication have gone, and Intel are creating (almost) competitive cards - the first time there's been competition in the GPU market from more than two companies like 20 years.

The only thing propping up high prices at the moment is peoples willingness to pay them. And their willingness is tied to their ability - luxury money is low in general due to inflation.

nVidia have already taken emergency steps to stop the price collapsing. Those steps won't work, because you can't ignore the facts of the market indefinitely.

Perhaps in a few years time, if the leather jacket doesn't change his ways, we may hear the cry
    "nVidia's alive!?"

This already has double the vram of the 4060 Ti so has that advantage if you don't care about RT or DLSS.
    techpowerup.com/gpu…713

Will be the similar power to 3070 Ti/rumoured 4060 Ti performance
    adi4ro's avatar

RT not soo much but DLSS has proven to be quiet good especially DLSS 3.0.
However that is not my concern as I suspect they will all probably be on par while 6800 still having the VRam advantage but I'm not sure if they won't surprise us with a price of more like 349 which I would definitely prefer.

The way I see it people have been waiting for 30xx, 40xx and probably will continue to wait for the 50xx hoping that the prices will go back to being able to get one of the top cards for 250-300 and as you can clearly tell its not going that way.

Now its very easy to blame people for being willing to pay said price but when you need a PC now .. waiting 2-3 months even is not an option. Plus realistically speaking if people were to suddenly stop buying the cards the company would go under and nobody would win… there’s always a need for people to buy… plus customers like you and me are nothing to them… cars and pretty much everything nowadays use graphic cards which push prices higher due to a higher demand.
    moshispam's avatar
Yup, I think we can all agree some movement upwards in prices, but for £450 I expect one step down in tier performance from the top of the line card AND a decent amount of VRAM. Not this current continued milking cycle we are in.

I pulled the trigger on this to upgrade my aging RX480, only to realise that it won't actually fit in my case (Cooler Master CM690II). It's 324mm (12.75 inches) long. This might be something to consider for those with older cases looking to upgrade. (edited)

Good price, if I didn't already get the 6800XT recently I would've gone for this.
  17. Zabza's avatar
I got the 6750xt msi version from ebuyer for £373 about 3 weeks ago so I still have time to return it. Do you guys think I should return it and get this card instead?

1080p high refresh (360hz 300fps) competetive games such as Valorant / csgo. I compete in many tournaments so I don't want dips / 1% lows as this can cost very important rounds. It's paired with a 5800x3d recently bought - on a B450 motherboard with 16gb ddr4 3200mhz ram. Thank you
    ceph042_'s avatar
Honestly, if you were to go for the 6800 you might as well get the 6800XT for £30 extra. They were going for £512 during the same eBay sale from Ebuyer. 10% better 1080p performance for 6% extra cost. That's a deal

    IT is.
But it is unlikely to be a good bargain (in hindsight), in just the next month, or so.
