You know inflation has gotten out of hand when you're paying 17 grand for a Renault Clio.....and it's considered a bargain.

My first new car was a Clio Biarritz 1.2 in 1997.

    That cost £7920 - source parkers.co.uk/ren…cs/

    £7920 adjusted for inflation is £14935 - source bankofengland.co.uk/mon…tor

    £16881 - £14935 = £1946 - source - my calculator

Is the new one £1946 better than the old on in terms of tech/ security/ safety etc. Yes, in my opinion. And in my opinion this is a bargain. Heat added.

HUKD when more efficient engines, safer design, connectivity & touchscreen infotainment, sign recognition, lanekeeping assistance, parking sensors and AEB make a car more expensive than it was 20+ years of inflation ago:

You know things get cheaper right? Like a 8mb memory card would cost £30 in the 90s. Technology is cheaper and cars are made cheaper. Won't be surprised if the profit margin is greater now than back then.

    that's a 8k car

In 1992, yes. The cheapest new car in the UK in 2023 is over £13.5k, which in real terms, is a good bit cheaper than an £8k car in 1992, and it''ll also be vastly better.

Gets really good reviews, but i still live by the mantra of never buy a French car.

Get yourself a £16k used Corolla.

Is the iconic the entry level does anyone know? It’s pretty well specced if it is. I’m after a car for the wife as she is finding her Skoda too big.

Probably cheaper to get a few driving lessons for the mrs than a new car

Doesnt have an auto box, but does have a gear indicator.
    Openttdbeer's avatar
Yes - because like pretty much all modern cars it will recommend a gear to you. This is not a new feature either.

Any way - Clio has always been a solid car, as for this one, good deal, shame about the colour being white.

I'm currently leasing one but it's GT line.
Very happy with it. No complaints. Just wish it had wireless apple carplay.
