bought 1 and sent it straight back , very temperamental connection to phone and Alexa wouldn't even set up , waiting on a replacement unit if its the same I'll be getting my money back.

Had one for years well various models but I own this one and have done for a couple of years now.. Alexa works but it does take some setting up, easier to use Alexa on phone IMO and the NEXTBASE app is slow and janky.. but the camera if paired with a decent SD works flawlessly and thats what matters

my advice with dashcams, is install them and forget.. most people think they are going to be recording wacky races on them.. but in reality ive used it twice, ive been hit twice and both times it supported my story and proved I was not at fault, but more importantly the evidence was recorded in good quality and accessable..

Also its 100% worth getting a rear cam too, my front camera recorded nothing of any incidents ive had if you get rear ended you want that on camera. (edited)

Got this. Good, ish. You must remember to format the memory card every now and again or it just stops recording with no warning beep or anything. Forget using the app. At least on iOS anyway.

I bought this in a bundle, the Amazon function is basucally useless.

I've read the same thing from professional reviewers also.

After advice about where I can get this fitted so all the cables are hidden and hardwired
    FineTuning's avatar
I just bought the hardwire kit from Argos for £20 and did it myself, took about 30 minutes.

I think the 422GW with Rear Camera and Nextbase 32GB memory card looks good value at £132.

Definitely lacks reliability, unstable and poor quality. Personally I wouldn't buy nextbase again

Nice 15% discount for a decent bit of kit with a 12 month warranty. Cheers OP purchased one for the Mrs' car

I have this camera and it makes interference noise, overheats and did not record a collision. Tends to drains the battery as well when hardwired. I got fed up with the overheating and the noise so removed my camera and its just stored in my glove box currently. Will never buy this brand again. App it really laggy! £200 wasted 2 years ago

Great camera, absolutely disgusting to use though. App is awful took 38 minutes to remove a 1 minute clip via phone.

Would be easier to plug the SD card into a computer.

I have this model and unfortunately the lens seems to have developed some form of fog, so the recording look misty.

Have you taken the screen protector off?

software is absolutely dire. Google it and you'll see just how bad it is. nextbase just recommend reinstalling, which I have to do every time I want to access videos on my pix 6 pro

I have this one with the rear camera, installed with the kit that links to fuse box.
Sometimes fails to start when the car starts. Need to reset it by pulling its power and waiting for it to go off. I have it on with ignition, not all the time.
The on battery time was ok when it was new. Now it’s less than 1 minute - this is actually useful when it locks up and needs to reset.
Sometimes just locks up mid journey, power off reset required.
Exposure doesn’t auto adjust very well, decent daytime exposure is dark and gloomy at dusk and hopeless at night. Manually change it for night and it whites out in sunny days.
if your car has its own WiFi then it can clash with the camera.
I don’t bother with the Alexa. Why would I?
To access any footage I take the SD out and plug it in a computer, no fuss.

it’s OK but if I were buying again I’d probably choose something else.

I bought this version a few months ago, could not connect to Alexa, videos not downloading. Got refund and bought the 422 version which is much better and cheaper.

Replaced this with a Garmin when it died. Perpetually had issues connecting via the app which is a known issue. The only way around that was to either remove the memory card or connect it with the cable. I gave up on re-installing the app every time.

    Which garmin did you get?

I have this. And it keeps "forgetting" what the real time is.. I'm not sure wether the time being incorrect on the clip would invalidate any clips of I had to use them?
    EndemicAlarm's avatar
Probably. At the very least you don't want to risk it. If something forgets saved details like time/date it means whatever battery it uses for the data is absolutely dead.

I've had this dashcam for about 4 years or so.

Agree with others, software is diabolical. Don't even bother with the app to download video - get a card reader.

Mine randomly stops & restarts recording but the SD card is the original so may be wearing out a bit (although it is a high endurance).

Mine got stuck in a bootloop once and had to update firmware to fix it. Has gotten stuck in bootloop a couple of times since but the battery on it is knackered so I just turn off the ignition & it sometimes resets. Failing that I have to format the SD card externally and that usually resolves things.

Picture quality is great though. I think if you paid this with the rear cam you can only record in 1080P but it's still very good.

Do I go with this one or the newer 4K 622 model?

I've had this for years, good bit of kit and best to use at 1080p @60fps. Quality is good. Alexa connection never works but very reliable piece of kit
