Why buy this when you can simply use rechargeable batteries. (edited)

Exactly this, rechargeable batteries are a third of the price

I'm not going to bash on this too much but it is luck of the draw I purchased three of these originally, one failed in 6 months another after 9 the third is still going 2 years later.

I usually always buy the branded items but If I had to buy again I'd go elsewhere. (edited)

Just go to Home bargins and grab a pair of venom ones for £12, they do the same thing and you get 2, so you will always have one ready to swap out.

I liked mine but it stopped working after a few months.

These are neat but there's no point buying a proprietary solution when 4x AA Eneloops including charger is £26, which gets you more than double the capacity (per controller) and charges in less than half of the time. If you run out during play, you can just use a USB cable which is the same as this anyway.

Microsoft's cables are atrocious, you really have to baby them. The battery is good but I'm sure a 3rd party does ones just as good for cheap.

I honestly think a rechargeable battery should be included in the £60-70 price they are asking for for a controller. I like having the battery option because I keep my consoles and play them long term but the fact that Sony and Nintendo can include a battery for the same price says something.

Their leaked court documents suggest they are releasing an updated controller later this year which features DualSense style haptics and also finally include a rechargeable battery.

This is long, long overdue and I don't care what the defenders of AA batteries say. Having a built-in, official solution is always better than having to faff about with swapping out batteries. You can just leave it on charge in a dock or plug in any USB C cable to play and charge.

You can't put a price on convenience and for me personally, a dock is an essential item. I haven't plugged in a cable to charge any of my controllers in well over two years. (edited)

I've had my play and charge kits since I bought my Xbox One in 2014, still going strong and compatible with Series S/X. It's worth noting you can use Xbox controllers wired with no batteries in wirelessly or wired. Just plug into a power source (or direct to the Xbox for wired connection).

Just thought I'd share this post:

They also had the Official Xbox Play & Charge kit USB-C - I think it was 50% off, so £9.99!
