I know Philips Hue doesn't get a lot of heat as generally it is quite overpriced compared to alternative systems, but this seemed like an interesting discovery...

I already have one of these outdoor lights and I wanted another one, but the price was a bit excessive, then I made an interesting discovery that I thought was worth sharing, I wasn't sure how best to list this so if there is a better way please let me know.

The deal button will take you to the normal priced Philips Hue light fitting, but my discovery was that Philips also sell the exact same fitting as a non-smart version under the name Philips Bridge for a lot less! At time of posting it was £30.22 but I have seen it fluctuate from £27-£40 quite quickly so worth keeping an eye on. Then just add the White Hue E27 smart bulb to complete!

Hope this helps someone.

EDIT: I cannot say if there is a difference between the indoor and outdoor bulbs as far as operating temperatures and moisture resistance, they look the same to me, but I just wanted to add this just in case I have missed something. I have had an indoor bulb outside in this fitting now for a week in cold and rain and it is still working fine.

Purchased 4 Philips Hue Turaco and 1 Philips myGarden Arbour (LED/Sensor version) - Little disappointed with them as some of the coating has peeled off after 2years, this maybe related to placement (more exposed etc) . Not sure if other alternative lights do the same but worth nothing as they may not last as long as expected.

I changed the bulbs for Philips Hue White (E27 Edison Screw) (Smart). Original bulb was a non smart. Think I tried an adapter but was a little too long, might work depending on the adapter length.

Thanks for the photos and the comments. It's disappointing to see that these fittings haven't lasted for you, I would expect more from Philips. I just checked my purchase history and I bought one of these Turaco fittings in July 2019 (so for 4.5 years ago) for the front of my house (fully exposed to the element on the east side of my house) and I have to say in my case the fitting is still like new

I'm a bit confused but I think I get it. You are making it smart by adding the bulb and the 'non'-smart version of the light fitting? The title is misleading though as it does state that it is a "smart outdoor light".

Also, I realise that that the unit is IP44 rated but is the bulb designed to work as an outside bulb? Not sure if that makes a difference but maybe a consideration.

If honest I thought it was thePhilips Smart light I ws getting for ~£42.

Hi, sorry if I caused confusion, the point was that the Philips Hue smart light fitting is exactly the same as the non smart option, you are basically just paying Philips an extra £50 to put the bulb in the fitting for you. I have the official hue version as well and the bulbs look the same to me but I can't comment on whether there is something else special about "official" outdoor bulbs that make it worthwhile

Looks to me as though the dimensions and material are also different (one is steel the other aluminium) so there are differences beyond just smart Vs non smart fitting.

Hi, I have both lights and I can confirm they are the same, the Amazon website is incorrect, both are anthracite finish, made of aluminium, and have the same dimensions. I have confirmed this directly on the Philips websites.

Mine just arrived. As described, exactly the same as the sole hue one with a bulb. Great quality too for £30 as I already have a spare bulb and motion sensor. Thank you

Glad I saved you a bit of money. A couple of other tips I recently figured out, I have two of these fittings at the back of my house, one at the side door and one on the front of the garage further away, I have set them up to trigger from a single sensor to save having to have two sensors.

The other idea that I did for someone else recently, I fitted one of these fittings at the front of their house but they didn't have a sensor. He has a ring doorbell and I figured out that you can use an Alexa routine so that when motion is detected on the ring doorbell, the light comes on for a certain length of time and goes off again, saving the need for an extra sensor!

Looks like it should be linked to this Applique murale Philips Bridge - Anthracite - 1x15W - LED amzn.eu/d/9…G5x

so the light fitting does not come with a bulb but buy both together for that price
Could you place a coloured bulb within that housing then?
    neonplanet40's avatar
    Yup
  9. rbramhill1's avatar
Would you be able to get a converter and a colour B22 bulb in here, what's the spacing for the bulb?

I don't think there is enough room in there to use an adapter, I will try and take a photo inside the fitting tonight and add it so you can see

Just ordered thanks. Had to go to the new/other section to select £31 one as kept coming up as £41 in basket. Good find thanks

Can’t get it to total for that price

Hi, thanks for your comment. As I mentioned in the post, the price of the light fitting changes several times per day, I have seen it as low as £27, and up to £40, but it does come back down.
  14. CH_0120's avatar
    Title is somewhat misleading no?
  15. Johnnyboy11's avatar
Weird, advertised now at £30.22, but add to basket and it becomes £40.46.
I have a couple of E27 Hue bulbs spare, so would have gone for this deal.
Maybe I just need to wait until Amazon sorts this? (edited)

I had that at one point too, it turned out that adding to the basket was choosing a different seller so I went into the alternative sellers and I got the right price adding to basket

Have had one for the last 3 years with a smart bulb and still going strong. I think I paid £30 so this is a great price.

They've now changed the price to £40.46 and the one sold for £31 by Amazon EU has changed to £41😥 (edited)

You don't need the smart light and the smart bulb to work via Phillips hue. I have these lights and you can use standard bulbs (however I use them on a digital timer so don't use the Hue functionality). The purpose of the hue lamps is to make standard light fittings work on the system.

Just went to Amazon and it's £30 in the basket today. The link from here is the same but the name of the item has changed :/ £40.51 but £30.23 at checkout

Or just buy two cheap light fittings and put philips bulbs in them?
