Good price for a pre-constructed deck - these definitely help work out how to make your own decks. It's not very competitive though (I remember this one as being a bit reliant on coin flipping for a lot of the attacks) and a good number of the cards were rotated out of competitive play In April so you can't play this deck as is in an official Pokemon league.

In case it's of interest, there are 21 Pokemon, 18, Energy, 12 Supporters and 9 Item cards in here.

Honestly I had no idea how few actual pokemon cards i was getting in these packs until you said!

My son has just started collecting and to be honest I have no idea if these battle packs are better value than anything else.
No interest in playing the game, just collecting and trading at school. Normally I don't like this kind of stuff but he is shy and carry a recognised pokemon case around has encouraged him and others to start talking. So i'm in.

If he's got no interest in playing the game, keep away from these: what you get is set (nothing is random) and you get multiples of the same card. Also, there's only one special card (the one on the front). However, if you have a local games shop/club that plays Pokemon then it might be a way to encourage him to talk to more people. He and I learnt to play by buying the "Battle Academy" box that came with 3 decks and simple to understand instructions. From there we went along to a few friendly tournaments and he talks and plays with different people each time.

One thing I would be careful with (having worked in a school and had a son go through it) - there are a lot of fake cards that get traded at school (at the school I worked at, I would say there were a lot more fakes going round than real ones!). Some of these fakes are terrible but some look great and until I got more experienced I couldn't tell.

Some people aren't bothered by this but some really are and having to deal with unhappy children (or their parents) who feel they've been scammed and other unhappy children who have just found out and don't believe their amazing collection is all fake is horrible. I can see why some schools ban them!
