info added by @sigorney

The Heist X2 Urban Bike is a serious commuter bike that likes to let its hair down and hit the mountain bike trail at weekends.

Superbly durable, the bike features smooth Suntour Nex suspension that glides over bumps in the road. It also features a slimline AL6 Urban Cross frame that cuts down weight without sacrificing strength and durability.Hydraulic disc brakes keep you safe in busy, built-up areas, while the grippy Performance Tyres ensure a solid, comfortable ride even in wet weather. If you like your bike to switch seamlessly between urban journeys and mountain bike rides, the Heist X2 represents a great mid-range option.

Genuine question what are these hybrid bikes? Is that not where a gravel bike comes in?
    Fatal.Swan's avatar
Yes the boundaries between them all are getting blurred... But traditionally, a hybrid is a flat bar bike with 700c wheels, potentially a short travel suspension fork like this one, and wide ratio gearing with a higher top gear than a standard MTB, for use on the road. The tyres could either be closer to road types or like a narrow knobbly the depending on the bike's main use.

A gravel bike is a drop bar road bike essentially, used to be called CX but that has never really been a trendy label in the bike industry. A gravel bike has disc brakes and like a hybrid it has clearance for wider/knobblier tyres than a road bike. Traditionally a gravel bike would have a rigid fork like a road bike, but that's starting to change. And a single chainring setup is starting to become the standard (1x11 gearing etc) for gravel bikes.

MTBs traditionally had smaller wheels (not the case anymore though), always fatter tyres, always suspension (increasingly, long travel), no need for high top gears.

Probably the vaguest description ever on what parts is actually on the bike.

After some digging there is -
    Drivetrain: 2 × 8
    Groupset: Acera, Tourney
    Suntour 63mm fork

Seems to be the same price everywhere and the rrp is not £600.

They're all the same company selling, they all have sales simultaneously.

Suspension and 45c tyres are overkill for commuting. Not surprising if the whole thing is 20kg.
    Vitalic's avatar
20kg?! My full suspension was 14.3kg...

Looks good just what I’m looking for but the tires look a bit chunky for more road use ?
  5. ebble's avatar
I agree. It's not a serious commuting bike. It's seriously bad commuting bike.

Those fat tyres will make it like cycling through treacle and the lack of mudguards will mean you get splattered in filthy black water when it rains. Commuting bikes don't need the weight or complication of suspension.

This bike would be good as a beginner's mountain bike.

Hybrid but doesnt mention what motor it has?
But doesn't look like it has one in the picture
    MartyG123's avatar
It doesn't have a motor. Unlike cars, a hybrid bike is simply one that can fulfill more than one use. Such as road and gravel use.
    e-bikes have motors. (edited)

Daughter has a Pendleton which constantly has issued with the chain falling off. She's looking for something that can be ridden round the woods and around the street. Concerned about the low end chain set on this... can get it for 238...would it do the job!?
    noobnoob's avatar
Probably will be fine for light use like that.

Though couldn't the Pendleton be upgraded / serviced to improve the drivetrain somewhat, it could be something simple like a new chain, or shorten the chain a little, or fit a chain guide or guard or something
