Not really a deal though is it, its just the price of the flight, same price I paid a few years back. Avianca is also I think the worst airline I've ever used, if you take this flight do expect to loose a day of your trip when that changeover at boggota turns into 10 hours because the they've oversold the seats. Look up reviews if you think I'm exaggerating, this is genuine advice, it's not a fun airport to be stuck in.
Peru on the other hand is lovely (despite the car fumes pollution) & I recommend looking up alternative treks to the inca trail.

Agree with your last comment - the Salkantay Trek we did back in 2012 remains one of our life highlights. Stunning countryside, challenging walking (luckily we'd just finished a ski season so altitude didn't effect us like others), camping in a tent above the snow-level, and spending the day observing Machu Pichu at the end. I'd go back at the drop of a..... oh, hang on - kids are up, must dash

    Good one

The city used to be the capital of the Incas and has the closest commercial airport to Machu Picchu. Tons of tourists from US. There are trains to Machu Picchu, also luxury tourist trains (Andean Explorer) to other places worth visiting in Peru.

One can also go on a hike to Machu Picchu, but do some research what's the weather like at the time you travel and if you need to register in advance.

Peru is an amazing tourist destination, I highly recommend spending more than a week there (especially given the 18 hour flight time)

Andean Explorer train from Puno (Lake Titicaca) to Cusco or reverse is something else, altitude is much higher in Puno so dont do what i did and fly there from sea level in Lima. Lifetime highlight, and climbing Huayna Picchu i will never forget.

What's the difference between this Google flights site vs Skyscanner?

Beyond the obvious Machu Pichu, I would also highly recommend a rainforest trip to Manu. We went in 2019 and spent 4 nights in the rainforest and had an amazing time.

Wonderful country to visit. Worth mentioning that Feb-Mar is still considered wet season there.
