My recommendations, although i appreciate people have different budgets and requirements etc.

For example, to give context, this is somebody who works remotely so its good to have some screen estate, I'm a casual gamer but still want to be "competitive" if playing online, but i wouldn't call myself a competitive gamer. To give further context, i paid ~£600 for my LG C3

Having had a curved monitor before, i would personally avoid, I found it straining on my eyes.

If you can, hold out for an OLED, and definitely consider a 42inch (like the LG) 'TV' as a monitor (although you will need a desk at least 80cm deep to ensure your not too close).

I know it sounds like that screen would be comically large, but due to it being 4k, the ppi is similar to that of a 27inch 1440p panel - so it looks lovely and crisp at normal sitting distance, then if you want to lean back with feet up on the desk, controller in hand then brilliant. I wouldn't go back to a smaller size monitor now.

I appreciate the price is high, but i would consider moving from an IPS/VA monitor to a 4K OLED the equivalent of jumping 2 generations of graphics cards. For example, you can go back and play games that you have played before but they just look so much better, stunning black levels and contrast is incredible. I didn't realise on the amount of detail i was missing previously (so consider buying an OLED before upgrading your graphics card!) (edited)

Good list, but I cannot recommend a VA panel for gaming at all

My advice? Buy whatever you want but DO NOT BUY a curved Samsung monitor. The screen will come away from the bezel and Samsung will claim you have damaged it despite it being under 12 months old and having before / after photos. I am not the only person to have seen this fault, several examples can be found doing a simple Google search.

I repeat. DO NOT BUY A CURVED SAMSUNG SCREEN.

Hi shout out to the one i chose earlier this year, which was discounted by £100 soon after (sigh). It has something all the others don't - speakers/bass in the monitor itself. I hate headphones.

    BenQ EX2710Q - 27″ 2560 x 1440 (WQHD or 1440p)
    1ms IPS 165Hz, 95% DCI-P3
VRR support with AMD FreeSync Premium
light matte anti-glare screen surface, 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles and 10-bit colour (8-bit + FRC)
Maximum luminance is a bit low at 250 nits but this is boosted to 400 nits via HDR - not an issue for me.
amazon.co.uk/dp/…QVJ -£218 right now. I was happy to pay £312 in March

No issues but i only lightly game (Diablo mostly). Great for work.

any good deals on a 34-38 inch IPS curved monitor?

doesn't have to be gaming specific, just want a general purpose good for video editing and media consumption
    RicoP's avatar
I second this. Ideally 4k for me too.

With the rolling out of OLED monitors this year, aren’t these all going to be super cheap in 6 months time, I would have thought unless your buying an OLED it’s the worst time to buy previous models, I’m not saying it is that’s just my thoughts, I’d love an OLED but not paying 1k for a monitor! By the end of the year they may be a lot less so these older models could be dirt cheap.

Any deals on decent 24in FHD monitors?
    sisqoboy's avatar

I haven't seen that, to be honest. Prices are so low for FHD 27" monitors, so that would probably be the way to go.

waiting on a 48inch OLED 8k curved monitor to be introduced to replace my triple monitor setup.

Wake me up when that happens

I not long about bought the LG 1440p 27in ips ultragear, and it is the best monitor i have ever owned bar now, everything i put on it looks fantastic.

And after seeing 1440p in action, it is a crying shame MS and Sony did not make their consoles 1440p native, the sweet spot for gaming in my view, drop all the wasted resources of trying to get 4k 60fps and RT, and made 1440p 60/120 the standard for gaming.
    Addikt's avatar
Tbf, PC gamers tend to use smaller screens as they’re on a desk. 1440p looks great on a 27” but that PPI might suffer a bit at 55” and above. I imagine a fairly hefty percentage of consoles are hooked up to big 4K TVs, at which point 4k is likely to make a more noticeable difference.

That said, I’m just theorising, could be the quality leap from 2k to 4k isn’t that huge. May hook my PC up to the TV at some point and test so I’m not just spouting unsubstantiated theories on HUKD

What would you recommend as a second monitor used primarily for a PS5 and Docked Steam Deck?
    PsychoSonny's avatar
    Steam deck barely runs 720p.

You should get a 4k HDR TV for the ps5 and 1080p 60hz basic dell office monitor for the deck

For 32" 4k goodness, you'll be hard-pressed to beat this price for the Samsung Odessey G8 Neo, it's a stunning monitor with almost OLED quality and without the risk of burn-in. It's a very high-spec VA panel and I think it's better than IPS as there is no light light bleed or washed out greys. It's got 1000000:1 Contrast Ratio with proper HDR 2000 certification.

Doubt I'll ever hit the max 240 Hz Refresh Rate any time soon though.

Do any of these have hdmi 2.1 for series x?
    TheCostOfLies's avatar
Yes, most of them, but what do you need 2.1 for?

Unless you're using a 4k screen with 120hz support, 2.1 is meaningless. 2.0 will run games at 1440/120, which is really what you're looking at with most of these monitors.

Worth mentioning as per RTings that the G2724D is actually better than the AW2724DM despite being cheaper.

It really is an amazing monitor especially for the price. It's the crispest 1440p can possibly look currently due to the subpixel structure.

Originally had the AW2723DF but unfortunately those monitors have issues with GSync, but other than having 240-280hz and a nicer design, everything about the G2724D is better for £300 less.
