All Acer Discounts, Offers and Sale - October 2018
I got this from Box when it was on offer at this price and I’m happy with it. Running i7 gtx1070 16gb ddr4 and everything I’ve tried looks and feels great. But I must admit, I got one purely and simply for Minecraft VR which is, imho, the best VR experience out there (but I’m a Minecraft addict!) I’ve got PSVR + PS PRO and while I’ll admit the movement and tracking don’t feel as good on this than the PSVR, the visual difference is noticeable on this over the PSVR. Steam VR is in my experience a bit hit and miss - it feels like support for WMR was added in without much thought, but this is a controller issue I think. The games come “pre mapped” for Rift or Vive and some don’t function so well on the WMR controllers (I have approx 40 VR titles in my steam library, and I’d say just half of them are a good experiment). Ultimately if you have the rig that can play decent games, at this price it’s well worth it. Heat from me :)
PSVR has the lowest spec of all the major headsets. Coupled with the fact games are much lower graphics quality on ps4 to keep the framerate consistent. It does run a bit a better and look a bit clearer on a PS4 PRO but still not comparable to decent Desktop VR.
Dude, my initial blog posts were about my interest in virtual reality in general and I spent a lot of time sharing my experiences with the Oculus Rift DK2 and then later all the WMR headsets I got. When/If I get a PIMAX 8K then I will blog about that as well.
You did run a WMR blog until recently (moremixedreality.com). The Rift is not out-dated at all, show me any headset commercially available that is 2nd generation VR? The Rift & Vive are still by far the best overall tethered VR headsets currently available, that will not change until 2020 at the earliest. For £200 this headset is a good buy.
I I don't run a mixed reality blog. I would just advise anyone to try out both before they make a choice and if they want to pay more for what is now an out-dated product then by all means go for the Rift. When the new Rift comes out I will re-evaluate things again as I would hope that it would leapfrog the current generation of headsets
That one from Box is far better. It has an Solid State Drive(which is much faster than a traditional Hard Drive), and has more real memory (8GB vs 4GB). The whole laptop will be a much better experience.
Sorry quite inexperienced on laptops. Would you recommend the one I've posted or this one? https://www.box.co.uk/NX.GSYEK.012-Acer-Aspire-5-A515-51-86VY_2403745.html#DetailTop Cheers
Nope Nope. Full spec list: Only 4GB of RAM, and a 1TB HDD. "20GB Memory" is a marketing term and the Optane will make a difference, but an SSD would have been far better.
Code expired? :-(
Yep, 2 x SSD slots (one will be empty): https://www.google.co.uk/search?ei=II7LW5ebFoSRgAbikKPwDw&q=SF314-52G+one+or+two+m.2+slots&oq=SF314-52G+one+or+two+m.2+slots&gs_l=psy-ab.3...1779.10057.0.1022.214.171.124.126.96.36.199.3786.0j24j2.26.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..15.23.2722...0j0i30k1j0i22i30k1j33i21k1j33i160k1j33i22i29i30k1.0.lMHZ92VT_wY
Thank you Picard for your time in explaining that, very much appreciated (y)
Not 100% of sure of this as the model numbers are slightly confusing but the SF14-52G comes with two m.2 slots (the socket where you plug in the m.2 type SSD). Therefore there should be a spare m.2 slot for you to plug in an additional m.2 SSD. https://laptopmedia.com/review/acer-swift-3-sf314-52g-review-aluminum-jewel-by-acer/ Even if it doesn't and it has only one m.2 slot, all you have to do is clone the drive to your new bigger SSD and replace the old SSD with your new cloned SSD. It's pretty straightforward - just Google the laptop model number and add 'SSD upgrade'. There are loads of guides on the internet.
Can someone please advise me, novice question. With an SSD drive such as this only being 128GB, do you still store all of your photos / videos etc on here? As this size wont last me very long, what could i do? Can you add a normal HDD drive or upgrade the SSD? Im a bit confused! Thanks in advance
You would not use the HDMI with that card though...
The FE (and any blower card) is not going to perform as well as a custom heatsink and more airflow
I was working on averages. It has also been on sale at £799. (y)
still not regularly and that was also misprice not a sale, bless.
Ice cold. Even if the bundle was ever a deal, it was about £70 cheaper last week.
Why is this funny? Was a genuine question.
(lol) (lol) (lol) (lol) (lol)
I don't have a clue what any of the above terms mean? But my son wants a monitor for his PS 4
Out of stock atm
I have the 1440p 75hz version of this and ghosting is terrible
Gone at that price now
Looks like they're gone at the price OP posted.
how is everyone seeing the price of £199.99 i'm only seeing £346.50
Standard = 60hz can be upped to 75hz (max 80).
Ultra thin laptop??
Doubt it - they're probably be about £450 and upwards. I'm simply explaining that there are different iterations and hardware specs for this laptop so do some quick research / read a few reviews of the specific model number before buying.
Me too....I don't anyone here has taken much notice....thankfully!
Are any of those 2018 models anywhere near £350 though? Guessing £600 or more without looking so not really a fair comparison.
2017 Acer Swift 3 SF314-51 1.53kg (HD610) 2017 Acer Swift 3 SF314-52 1.7kg (MX150) 2018 Acer Swift 3 SF314-54 1.45kg (MX150) 2018 Acer Swift 3 SF314-55 1.36kg (MX150 Max-Q) 2018 Acer Swift 3 SF314-56 1.36kg ((MX150 Max-Q)
Is that better 😃
Price is actually £54.99 :)
Ahh thanks for the info.. i just checked a few other retailers and they're all using the same pics as above but again doesnt mention anything about dvi.
I've purchased this before and it does not have DVI. The ones with DVI have extended model numbers V226HQLAbmd or V226HQLBbd Basically I was mislead by the image...
1920 x 1080 Full HDVGA60Hz / 5 MS Response TimePanel Type: TNAcer eColor technology Although it says only VGA, it does have a dvi connection too.
It is classified as a separate card though; even a basic Intel HD card will run applications better than a system with none but that's obvious
I wouldnt call Intels internal video card a "dedicated graphics card". The processor will just end up doing most of the work. This laptop should sell for £500 to be a decent price to get.
its good spec for a general purpose laptop but I would expect to see a 1050 graphics card at close to this price. I'd pay £499 for this at this price i'd carry on looking If you cant wait its a good price.
This should be fine for most of your needs then and a great price :)
I want it more for video & music work.
Ash, I remember the day I got this monitor and the mini pc deal for £99 from Sainsbury's years ago.
This is a better monitor for an extra £5 click.
Appears only DVI input at this price. The HDMI input is still over £100.
Perfect just what I was about to search for - thanks for posting. Heat from me.
I picked this up Monday, turned it on Tuesday evening, installed a Photoshop and fusion 360 and all went well......tonight (weds) stuck in an update/boot loop and it won’t even restore from the last restore point. Will be going back for either a refund or a replacement.
Just went to buy one and the code expired, dead on midnight, before i could complete the purchase. Have to wait for a new one!
Cheers. Only the first one
Which version. It should run it fine, but you will need to adjust video quality settings in-game to get the best balance of quality and framerate.
Tempted by this. Would this be able to run Total War Warhammer?
Yeah the one in this deal definitely doesn't have speakers. So I've essentially paid £23 for them, which seems like a lot but I think it's worth it for the convenience, plus the monitor itself has slightly better specs all-round.
hmmm according to Acer website this series has 2W speakers. so i assume this monitor also has built in speaker then ..... EDIT: aaaah missed this part - Specifications vary depending on model and/or region.
You can convert HDMI or DVI to display port with a cheap cable or convert lead.
No display sort connection otherwise would have bought i
I really want this but do I really need it?? Edit: Bought it. Thanks op!
Just checked and the original deal is back on!
Now back to original price, shame!
Brought it where? ;)
Seems a solid price. I'd bite at this price, had I of not bought 2 AOC monitors recently. This looks like its got a slimmer profile, and at this price with a VESA mount, it seems a no brainer!
For what? Maybe not if you are gaming or doing high quality photographic or video work, but it is fine for my wife who does general "office" work at home or uses a browser. Not everyone needs 4K and high spec monitors.
Yep, I mentioned it in the post so you experts didn't have to comment
I have this monitor and can say it's very good for the price downsides are that although advertised it does not have built in speakers or an audio out port
1080p on a 27" monitor is actually not that good at all.
Yes I bought a 27" 1920x1080 monitor for my wife who has some vision problems. If it is going to be used on Windows note on Windows you can also increase the font size (my wife has it set to Medium 125% in Windows 7) to make text bigger. Just search in Windows for "increase font"
Only at the electrical clearance store in Manchester.
What in every store?
So really the deal is there are bargains to be had at a Currys clearance store...
I showed them a receipt which I have attached my own as proof. Someone added a post few days ago for £419 so the price mist have dropped.
sooo... how do we get this deal? we just say my friend got a discount.. can i get one? Doesn't sound very plausible
Would this work with an android box? Enabling a sort of giant tabletop tablet.
Anyone know if this pivots?
According to Acer spec this one also has adaptive sync (freesync) unlike the cheaper one, so might push you one way or the other.
If you don't mind about the VESA mounting, and don't care about the 75Hz instead of the usual 60Hz, have a look here: https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/acer-sa240ybid-238-full-hd-ips-4ms-monitor-7498-ebuyer-3072925 (£74.98)
Has VESA support if you’re into that kind of thing ;)
I picked a refurbished version up a couple of weeks ago on Argos EBay for £217.99. It is a 6th gen i3.
Ideapad 320 posted on here is good at £299
Thank for the reply
This laptop is ok for navigate on the Internet watch movies, online or from hard drive, you can play games for example fifa 2017 or f1 2016, 2017 strategy games, if you want to play new games you will need a better laptop recommended with sdd, bigger graphic card and better processor.
No SSD and only 720p. Bought one similar for 330 in tesco last year.
No, the X amount off X spend. You can use them on anything, it was a £25 off £50+.
Yes but the 3 weeks going back and forth you mise well just go to the manufacturer and save the hassle, trust me ive been there
If you're talking about 20% off voucher I get them. Computer products are excluded along with most other useful items. I was going to get an rtx 2080 with it.
If this was a recent issue, flag it up on Resolver making sure you change your very email address on the account to the resolver email they give you. We managed to get a full refund and £140 compensation directly from them due to the stress they caused through mishandling our faulty item.
They can tell you what they like but your contract is with them. Probably would have bought this if I hadn't just spent my money off voucher on something else.
