You're not keen on Currys then?

You pays your money and takes your chances. I would price match at John Lewis if I ever saw a bargain on there, although, chances are, they would have a slightly different model number........

The specs may or may not be more generous, but OP has a specific application and in the case of my (more elderly) relatives they have brand preference perceptions. Then there is the new versus refurb perceptions. I have an elderly aunt that calls her Toshiba Android tablet an ipad, and would likely be disappointed if informed that the "ipad" is not what she thinks.

Only downside of the samsung is android 4.4 and it wont be updated ever! I dont know how samsung can justify still making these. You can add a 3rd party version on android 6.

It's the entire reason I bought it.Paid £30 new just as B&N pulled their UK support for the Nooks cos I spotted an XDA thread on rooting it when looking at rooting options for an older phone, so been using custom roms since the first patched Nook one was released. It's still got a helluva screen for it's age, & will keep doing a job for me reading graphic novels & magazines for years to come, I've ever bought stocked up on three spare Nook charging cables.

Where did you get the cables from? The proprietary able is a pain. Which version of lineage are you running?

I've been looking for a cheap hdmi adapter for years now - I bit see that happening now though.

Although the box matches the advertised spec, the actual machine has an i5-7400 (Kabylake) not an i5-6400(Skylake).

While not a massive performance improvement, it's definitely welcome as the CPU is the weakest component.

I guess Acer refreshed their later production runs with whatever they could get hold of.

It also has 1x8GB 2133(Crucial CT8G4DFS8213.C8FDR), and 3 free ram slots, which is both good and bad; good for future upgradeability, but bad for current performance (only single channel)

Did you have to iron out the problems yourself or was it some sort of …Did you have to iron out the problems yourself or was it some sort of automatic updates, I only ask as I'm not very technical and wouldn't want to fix the issues myself.

Did all the tweaks myself. There are loads of guides online particularly on the techtablets.com message boards, but ultimately there's not that much to do. You just need to change a few Windows settings. If you can follow basic instructions whether online or through a YouTube video, it's pretty straightforward. Would be a 2min doddle for anyone who knows how to enable/disable stuff in Windows. I

In a nutshell, it's basically:
- disabling the MeiMengMeng.Win.Clients service (or deleting if you're paranoid)
- enabling Windows Updates in Windows 10 Settings
- disabling or deleting the trackpad blocker (not strictly necessary as it doesn't do anything anyway)

None of that is any harder than uninstalling the bloatware that comes on Acers, Dells, HPs etc.

In my case, I additionally installed an SSD, re-seated the WiFi antennae, and removed the magnets from the top of the lid. I did alot of BIOS settings experimentation as well eg. 10W power increase, but none of it is strictly necessary for normal folk.

Trackpad surface only feels rough initially. After several weeks of use, it seems to smooth down after you've been regularly rubbing your fingers across it!

Those corporates avoiding tax is not good I agree but it's not tax …Those corporates avoiding tax is not good I agree but it's not tax evasion, this is. The issue with the touchpad is a well known problem and has been discussed at length on Hotukdeals too. In fact, look what a certain Pickard123 said about the touchpad back in September,"Trackpad pointer movement is okay but the sensitivity for two finger scroll and lower trackpad buttons is very poor. No way of adjusting the trackpad scrolling speed either or setting up scrolling zones on the left/right edge of the trackpad. Trackpad surface is a rough texture which I dislike. You wouldn't really want to use the trackpad for long periods anyway as your hand rests on the bottom edge of the laptop which is bevelled and therefore uncomfortable. I decided to use a mouse instead. "https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/31906363You weren't too happy about many aspects of this device, so what's changed since Picard? I trust you're using the same model? It was a bit disingenuous of you to state that I must be using an old model when you had similar problems when you bought the same model. Regards the price, I'll say it again, the normal price is about £194. Plus taxes, delivery charges, the cost of complying with EU safety standards and cost of providing a two year EU warranty I'd say the price creeps up to near £300 RRP.And please don't try and make out this tax evasion is not an issue, the practice is endemic and must be costing fortune, not forgetting that it creates an unfair playing field, making it harder for genuine companies to compete.

The effect is still the same - the UK taxpayer is deprived of £billions in revenue due to tax scamming by those rich corporates. It's on a massive scale as well that dwarfs anything involving this laptop.

EZB3 Pro always has been around £170. Stop making up figures.

Actually when I started gaming on PC 3D accelerators weren't even the norm, you had a separate 2D and 3D card.I still gamed at 60fps where possible. Smooth gameplay > graphics. It's hard to tell the difference between 144Hz and 60Hz, but the difference between 30Hz and 60Hz is night and day. Test if for yourself now, set your monitor to 30Hz and see how your mouse "ghosts" around your screen. Good luck playing a competitive shooter that way.

Yes, as someone that started building desktops in the days of the 386, I understand all of this - I don't need to test 30 vs 60 fps.

You've missed my point slightly, in that I'm not saying that 60fps isn't a much more satisfying experience than 30fps, but it wasn't that long ago that running Metro or Crysis at 1900x1200 at max settings above 30fps was a big deal. 60fps was dreamland, unless you make compromises to image quality, as you suggested. That's still the case now, though. A 1050ti could hit 60+FPS in any game available if you drop the settings far enough. Hell, we have a 'Roblox' machine with a HD7850 that could do that, even today.

This is correct

& the 1050 ain't much better

LOL! Oh my god no, the 1050m obliterates the MX150
Super laptop with a quality screen and the GeForce MX150 is way way underestimated. This is a good deal. Well done poster.
Oh look didn't take long for a gaming snob to turn up . The MX150 is perfectly capable of playing games affordably. I've got two laptops with this GPU and it plays everything nice at full HD, yes you sacrifice some of the quality settings but it's about £200 cheaper than a 1050 based laptop & the 1050 ain't much better and most people take the pee out of that as well. 1060's are stupid money too.

Sure I will add some spec. " they dare calling it gaming laptop " good is only screen IPS.

Imho the MSI PL62 7RC at £599 from Ebuyer is better value, it doesn't have an SSD but does have an M.2 so one can be added for £50 which is the same ball park as this and has a proper cpu in it not a U class.

Seems a decent price.

Do you understand now, or do you need me to draw my explanation for you in wax crayon? I don't mind. It'll give your carer an hour to herself.

Gosh, such intellect and emotional intelligence. I really pity people like you - life must be tough.

First, you are not sorry, so why say it. Second, you cannot be sure that my post was not a genuine question. Third, your opinion of the deal being rubbish is just that: opinion. It is not a fact. Someone else's opinion was quite different from yours, or they wouldn't have thought it was worthwhile posting such a deal.

But let's not let such things worry us, when here is a chance to show the world how clever you are with nasty comments (actually, they show the world something quite different about you). I do wonder what people like you did before the Internet, honestly I do. For sure you couldn't immediately jump to nasty comments in the workplace, or you'd get fired. At best, your colleagues would think you were an asshole.

You keep going, I'm sure you believe life is good for you. But kharma has a great way of dealing with folks. That old saying (with many variations thereof) "As you sow, so shall you reap" must make you wonder why the vitriol and bitterness you project to the world keeps coming back to bite your butt.

Oh, and your last sentence is sexist.

You might need an OTG cable as well, thinking about it. One that has 2 or 3 usb ports and a power outlet.
I got one for £3 off eBay recently. Works alright.

Overlooking the grammatical errors I usually find that it is the 'noobs' …Overlooking the grammatical errors I usually find that it is the 'noobs' who propagate unfounded subjective opinion as fact.

What I said is based on my own experience, it is a fact and you got no rights to say the contrary to me. When I do not know I do always ask because I always love to learn and I do not say rubbish to others and just to be few steps ahead, like you do.

I cannot think about you being better than me because of the possibility of you speaking/writing better English, I am a foreigner and you cannot base you totally stupid affirmation based on grammatical errors.

An intelligent person would first of all ask what my particular problem was instead of trying to make fun of me. I do accept when I do things wrong and I also always accept a lot of sense of humour but not the way you do, it is also nice when people tries to help instead.

If you were a successful person you would not definitely say that and there is a reason for your behaviour and the way you act, surely that helps you a lot with your poor life because it makes you feel better than the others but you do not know who the others are in reality and how much better than you they could be on any other task.

You love to be ahead of everyone else, there is no other explanation and an intelligent person would avoid acting the way you do.
Finally, sorry for more grammatical errors and for the funny way my writing might sound to you but your intelligence should be good enough to compensate and understand what I wrote, I hope. If you do not, just try to help instead.

Have a good day

PS: Nor sure why you come on HUKD, your contribution to it is very but very poor as I can see, lol

gone, gutted. Great bargain!
I’ve done the same with a 32” tv. Built a wooden picture frame around it to make it look more like a picture frame than a tv! Using a raspberry PI to connect to my onedrive account via Kodi. Got the tv connect to my smart home movement sensor so when we enter the room the tv turns on with the pi and starts showing photos after 20seconds. When we leave room it turns everything off automatically after 5mins.
Thanks for the info mugen6

I bought one of the Dell monitors you posted

I'm going to have a go at making a photo frame/slideshow with it so display my photos.

Theory...
Chromecast 2 in the rear via a dvi to hdmi connector.
USB from the monitor will provide the chromecast with power.

Point the chromecast at personal Gmail photo album so that when it goes into sleep/standby it will display selected album.

Monitor is only 20w when on and chromecast is negligible on power draw.

Just one question if I was to put the monitor on a plug timer would the monitor come back to life or would it sit in standby ?

Bought one of these early last year (from CCL) but returned it due to severe backlight bleeding. It was £80 back then and the picture was quite good considering the cost and you wouldn't expect accurate colours for a TN panel anyway. I would've kept it if it weren't for the backlight bleed. I'll say it again, it's really a lottery when it comes to buying monitors.
