Guests of the clifftop Royal Whitby enjoy panoramic views of all that is best about this seaside gem. Scenic beach, harbour, the alleys of the old town and, of course, the abbey ruins are all just a walk away. Those who would like to venture just a bit further can take a short trip to the North York Moors National Park or to the charming Robin Hood's Bay.

The hotel offers accommodation in 115 rooms with classic interiors, many overlooking the coast. Wi-Fi connection makes it easy to keep up to date and plan the rest of the trip's itinerary.

When the maritime air works up guests' appetite, dining can be enjoyed in the hotel's restaurant, while the bar offers a range of tipples and other refreshments. The on-site ballroom allures guests with a programme including comedy, cabaret, dancing, singers and quizzes.

Groupon's Guide To North Yorkshire
The largest county in England beckons with quaint spa towns, green pastures and hearty dining. In the traditional seaside town of Scarborough tourists may visit a Victorian spa, walk along the harbour or head to the 3000-year-old ruins of Scarborough Castle for some family photos.

Holidaymakers may also explore the historic spa town of Harrogate, where authentically styled Turkish baths, plunge pools and steam rooms beckon with quality leisure moments. In York, the largest medieval cathedral in all of Northern Europe may be admired before following the almost five-mile-long circuit of the City Walls.

If you are just looking for a basic no frills room and warm food then its ideal for a one night stay. The whole of the Hotel is dated but clean and staff always polite. Evening meal choice a bit limited but breakfasts were spot on. (edited)

Is Whitby worth visiting? Not that familiar with the mid-east of the UK.

Clearly, as it's not the mid -east of the UK, but yes, a great little seaside town, nice for a weekend away in the milder weather. I like to take my bike as there's a track that goes down past robin hoods bay to Scarborough. Great fish and chips and an evening walk up to the abbey, with a great brewery and tap room next to the abbey with good beer and often music and food vendors on a weekend

Very very dated for the price it is when not on offer.
Reminds me of the decor of a school in the 50’s and the lovely lady on reception has a wonderful moustache.

Doesn't get great reviews on Tripadvisor, I think I'd steer clear

I stayed there this month by coincidence! The hotel bedroom furnishing was very tired but clean bedding. The double bed was 2 beds together so very spacious but a ridge down the middle. The room was the top story which was rather warm (no temperature control except opening the window). The views towards the town and sea were brilliant and the bedroom was quiet for a Saturday so I slept well.

The ground floor public areas are pleasant but I must admit we use any of it. The lift is comedically small as they were back in the day but good for 3 people.

Overall the hotel was nice enough for a budget hotel so we'd stay there again on this deal. (edited)

Only 6.5 on booking.com which is quite low. I've looked at this place before and was put off by the reviews.

As a regular visitor to Whitby I personally wouldn't stay there.

We always park up near this hotel when we visit Whitby a few times over each year.

Most of the windows are wooden and completely rotten, how they are safe and weatherproof is a mystery. The overall look outside is very tired and in need of a good spruce-up.

However, if it’s clean and you get fed, then for that price it’s a good option to come and visit the harbour town as it’s a nice day trip.

    Heat given.

Coincidentally there’s just been an article on the news that mentions a questionnaire being asked of the locals on how safe they feel in Whitby on a night? Not sure what’s going on there - perhaps they DO have a vampire issue? (Famous Whitby Folklore) (edited)

Bram Stoker famously wrote Dracula here.
Whitby that is not the hotel.
I love the place and have stayed with the other half in various hotels etc I’d say at least 25 times.
Easily the best of the bunch was an apartment by the name of No.33.
