Had the new Octavia since release (MY 2020) and mine has been fraught with tech issues, SOS malfunctions, all safety measures failing, multimedia rebooting at random, multi media lockouts. It has been a lovely car but a nightmare with all the dealer visits.

As it's a company car it's up for renewal, but this has put me off the VAG group for now. Worth having a nose around the forums, it seems pretty common the issues I have had. (edited)

Absolutely all the same issues I have had with my new Octavia.

The things an absolute nightmare. Lots of fellow Skoda forum members have just handed theirs back as Skoda admit they have no answers.

Mines finally going back after two years of taking it back for them to fix, had enough. 17 trips back to dealer and STILL it's not working.

Is it a chain or timing belt engine

New ones I believe are belts, my 2010 has a chain, and it failed at 115k, £1500 to repair from skoda

That pic's the old model, new ones have different Headlights. Single glass rather than double units. I have one , great reliable cars and an absolutely huge boot as stated. There's a reason son many are used by Taxi firms. (edited)

Hukd's have never cared, for some reason, that the majority of pics that are posted on car deals/leasing deals are not a true representation of what you are actually buying. Never really understood why

Most taxis near me are hybrids as well, mostly Toyota. Not seen an Octavia taxi for years.

    I’ve got a 2nd hand 2017 Skoda Octavia. Paid £10k a few years ago.

It is the perfect family car for me. I can fit both kids bikes in the boot without needing to put the seats down. Going camping was a doddle. Managed to fit an obscene amount of stuff in no problem.

Touch wood I’ve not had any big service bills and the dealership near me are actually very friendly unlike any other car dealerships I’ve encountered. MPG is decent too considering the size.

I’ve got the 1 litre model which is the smallest engine I’ve ever had. No it’s not a particularly fast car but I don’t think anyone buying this is doing so expecting it.

If you are looking to buy a practical family car rather than a car of your dreams then I can 100% recommend it.

I've got a 21 plate 1.5, and as others have said it's a great car to drive, very comfortable, practical and fuel efficient. The 1.5 engine is surprisingly responsive when it needs to be as well.
However, I have also been plagued with all the infotainment, and safety system issues that others have mentioned.
It's been back to the dealer about 8 times to have various updates applied, and I have to say since the last update it has been far better, but there are still niggles. The infotainment system will sometimes reboot about 10 seconds after starting the engine.
I recently had a 23 plate Octavia as a loan vehicle, and that didn't have any of the issues that I experienced, so VAG may have got on top of the issues for newer vehicles - it's just the older ones they seem less keen to resolve the problems on. (edited)

Maybe in the 90s, 00s when taxi drivers loved Skoda diesels

Now they are Prius then Auris Estate and now the Corolla Estate

Don't see the point in buying a new motor now, what with the council pulling out all the stops to make life horrendous for car owners.
Was at a meeting few days ago, further narrowing of roads, wider pavements, taxes on city businesses providing parking facilities, road tolls, 20 mile zones etc.
They're determined to get all the cars off the roads in the very near future = £22969 down the drain.

My next commuter vehicle will likely be an e-bike of some sort. Just wishing for a road legal 30mph variation that can still be ridden off road (I know I am a bit hopeful here).

Honestly in todays market, the ammount of car you are getting for your money is pretty impressive. Just before Covid car price hike i got a 2019 Octavia SE 1.0 tsi (115bhp) and honestly its beyond impressive. Huge boot loads of room, lovely smooth ride and plenty of power with the turbo for almost any situation (havent found one yet it cant handle). Also from my experience Skoda Servicing, warranty etc was faultless.

Same here, same model and can't fault it. Recently bought a 65 inch TV , went to pick it up , back seats down and it fitted easily.

Skoda engine is well tested before being used in production because every new engine is used first in VW vehicles and then they improve what needs to be improved before they put it in Skoda. Which makes the Skoda engine proven better.

Not a bad car, but much preferred the previous version. The new touchscreen infotainment, volume and heating controls are pants. What's wrong with a couple of simple control dials? And the 'safety' systems are annoyingly intrusive, forever getting warning bleeps about being in the centre of the lane when I'm quite clearly in the centre of the lane. Oh, and the 'SOS' system puzzlingly going off a couple of time, weirdly on the only two times we were in the vicinity of Gloucester.

The old car I might have considered keeping (even in Energy Blue). This one, not so much.

Sounds just like my Cupra Formentor; buggy infotainment system that reboots randomly, touch sensitive buttons that you can't see in the dark because they're not backlit, lane assist that pulls you all over your lane and Android Auto that randomly disconnects from your phone or has no GPS signal.

Can't fault the engine though, which I assume is the same as this Skoda.
