I'm with smarty and have been for a few years now and have had no problems. They piggyback on 3 and their 5g speeds around where I live is a bit patchy but when you get it is very fast. They will increase your data when you see an offer via web talk so at the moment I'm on 120 GB for £12 a month. If you don't like it or have a bad signal it's a monthly contract so your not tied in and being monthly NO annual increase! . The only gripe I have is the EU roaming only covers up to 12 GB of your monthly data amount, but I blame the stupids voting for the unmentionable for that anyway! (edited)

After Lyca, Smarty are 100% better, good app and reasonable coverage. Speeds are not outstanding but very reasonable

Strange, but I'm not seeing the 8GB deal when I click the link. I get 4gb for £5 or 12gb for £4 (first 3 months). (edited)

I've been on this 12gb for £4 for 9 months now. It was initially the first 3 months but they have extended it twice since by just asking in their chat via the app. Also if you're in a poor signal area WiFi calling is available, just set your mobile to automatically switch it on at your home address. I have to pay £7 upfront? I was not able to get the £3.5 half price. (edited)

No coverage for nearly 2 weeks, Smartys solution - leave... Fast customer service via email, but when you rely on a phone for medical emergencies and they know that, well, being told to leave and wait for another sim, PAC transfer etc... Not good.

    Playing devil's advocate here:

Would you rather Smarty be straight with you (they only have 20 full-time employees and have no influence over network maintenance) or string you along with fix dates that will never come to pass?

I totally agree your situation is rubbish but network coverage isn't Smarty's responsibility unfortunately.

it took them 10 days to switch my number from BT

my reception is slightly better than BT was but still thinking of switching to O2

Been with Smarty on my main very old Three number for ages - helps I live 80m away from their Pole of Wonder, but get very good 5G speeds (1Gbps and beyond). I'm on 60GB for a tenner a month, so cannot complain at all.

Sorry, but if I get one of their data Sims n put it in an old unlocked WiFi router, I should be able to connect TV, games console etc? Home broadband contract ending, n don't want to tie in to a 2 yr contract at £27 pm. Thanks

You'll need their unlimited data SIM but according to their T&C's it's not meant to be a replacement for home broadband *cough*.

Also make sure you have 4G coverage. I got a 4G router for a similar purpose to you but had a very poor 4G signal. 5G was no problem though.

If the that's the case for you too, 3 currently provide home 5G broadband for £24 on a monthly rolling contract.

Also...don't trust the coverage map! Get the cheapest SIM you can to test out the coverage where you are or get a friend with 3/SMARTY to help you out. (edited)

Just to throw my 2 pence in on Smarty, went from O2 to Tesco to Smarty and have little to no issues. Never had to contact them. Now and again i'll have sketchy signal due to works on the masts around my area but thats about it. Been a very no fuss provider and does what i need when i need it

I've been with Smarty for the past 4 months and been a pretty awful experience. Phonecalls over 5 mins or so end up with anything I say having a delay of around 10 seconds on the other end. Anytime I complain about this I'm told its due to network congestion in my postcode and engineers are working on fixing it. They obviously are not able to fix it. I'm in Aberdeen a pretty large city with good coverage from all networks (used to work at a phone shop so know this for sure). Today the customer service assistant told me that I should just leave Smarty and try another network "to see if this will fix your problem". So looks like that's what I'll have to do. Rubbish service all round too, customer service chats so often crash or worse are ended by the agent before any help whatsoever. Also the 4G reliability is awful.
