    I have an A6300 + Sony E PZ 18-105 mm f/4.0

Does it make sense to buy this lens?

I'm not a pro photographer, taking pics on days out/travel. Pictures of family, sometimes landscape and street photography.

Put your lens to about 75mm and see if you like how your frame looks. F1.8 is dramatically faster than your F4, so you can lower your ISO in low light, and you will see much nicer and more pronounced bokeh, which is ideal for subject photography. You can also keep that lens if you ever feel like switching to full frame. But it's a prime lens, and so it's not as versatile as a zoom lens. For travel and street, I personally would go for a zoom or at least a 35mm. 50mm on APSC might be a tad too close for general use.

I won a Sony A7RV in a work competition and will be getting it in about 3 weeks.

I don't know anything about photography and I have started looking at some courses for it and lightroom.

I understand the camera will use E mounts. Is this a good one to start with? I mostly will be taking pictures of my pet and family but eventually want to photograph birds, animals, and one day get into astrophotography. I will be travelling to Iceland so will want to take pictures of the northern lights as well.

I would say that definitely need a prime lens(not zoom), specially as a beginner. You will learn a lot faster on a prime than a zoom lens, as you will have to put more thinking on your composition and settings.

This is a entry level lens, if you finally stick with photography, sooner or later you will feel the need to upgrade. But it's cheap and you will get most of your money back if you decide to sell it.

50mm is relatively wide on full frame so more suitable for landscapes, but maybe should consider he FE 85mm/1.8 as your first prime, for portraits, family, pets.
