They have a problem of earcups coming off at the swivel joint. A lot of buyers have complained about this reddit.com/r/s…198.

Apparently sony warranty does not cover this damage which is clearly caused by manufacturing flaw

Not surprised, the XM5s are lovely perhaps the best wireless well priced cans going currently.

There is a post here with regards to some 3rd party repairers and some good info from the poster too. (edited)

Honestly I hate my XM5s. I've had them since September last year and to my mind software updates mean they can't noise cancel worth a damn any more. They're also really fragile where the band gets skinny near the ear cups and I've had to glue them back together. I've just started looking to replace them but I'm not sure what's available in the over ear active noise cancelling market.

The 4s were best design imo

Love my XM5s so voted hot, but it maybe worth checking the pre-owns/used amazon stock sometimes there as low as £240 and if you get it from amazon warehouse and its no good you can always return too.

Got mine from FB marketplace for 170. Brand new in a box. Love it.

Bought these a few weeks ago. My first ‘grown up’ pair of proper headphones and my word it was money well spent. Never thought I’d spend that much on a pair of headphones but I’m very glad I purchased these. Hot (edited)

I ordered them this morning and received GroovE Headphones and an Anker Power bank. Gutted as I had a voucher for Amazon which made it even better for me

Wouldn’t surprise me if a third party fulfilled through Amazon.

What shocks me about these, is some purchasers describe sound quality as being comparable to headphones costing 1/6th to 1/3rd the price. Another words, one pays a lots for wireless, battery and noise cancellation - as well as risks of a wireless receiver/transmitter (albeit mostly rx) stuck on your head, and it will be 10-40 years to understand what damage that might do. When I last bought a pair of Sony headphones, with noise cancelling, I found them a complete waste of money. (edited)

Wired is fine for some situations where you aren't going to be moving around much, but wireless is just so much better if you are being active with them on, or if you're taking them outside your house/office.

Also, if you're mainly using it for your phone, most phones don't have a headphone jack anymore

The 'risks of a wireless reciever' is just nonsense. Light bulbs emit far more radiation than wireless devices, and we've been using smart phones for over a decade now in very close proximity to our bodies. (edited)
