Nothing to do with Prague. Brewed in the UK...

What's the issue? It's brewed under licence to the brewer's recipe. Very common.

Does your spaghetti Bolognese always come from Bologna?
  2. TN567's avatar
Budvar and urquel obv still brewed over there, if you like the budvar home and bargain do 4 x pint cans for £5.60 I think, very nice

At least it's not as bad as that spanish drink nobody in Spain has even heard of let alone taste!! Madri (edited)

You can buy Madri in Majorca now.

..the taste of Burton on Trent in your speedos in Magaluf….

Two packs of six for a tenner at Morrisons - along with Budvar and others.

Asda have a similar deal which includes Urquell - and that is still the proper Czech stuff.

Burton-on-Trent brewed stuff is absolutely tragic. If you want to get your hands on real Czech stuff, usually small independent diaspora shops (Polish and Slovak mostly) will usually stock a variety of Czech & Slovak beers. My local has everything from Zlaty Bazant to Gambrinus and Krusovice!
EDIT: A good guide to decent shops ----> czech-stuff.com/cze…ap/ (edited)

Nice man, what are the prices generally of those??

Made with Burton water which is great for ales but awful for any lager. Ironically you can buy the imported bottles of Staropramen from Coors in Burton under a different name they sell beers they brew in Burton.

Crying shame us Brits are happy to drink anything, all brewed under license is a sham really. Stella made in Wales is nothing like the 5.2% Belgian cans I can get now and then from my off-licence. San Miguel made in the UK by Carlsburg is vile compared to the 5.4% Spanish one which is actually a really good lager.

Honestly do a blind taste with any UK brewed under license lager and you'll soon see the difference, Heiniken are the worst offenders. You could get Italian Moretti but now folk are happy drinking away the Scottish variety, they see us Brits will drink anything so that's why you get this going on.

Stick to Budvar, Pilsner Urquell and German lagers from the supermarkets, have a better experience and don't worry then about the extra manufacturing ingredients they add here and don't need to label to speed the process up of lagering. A nice cold Budvar is a perfect example of how lagers should be done, not made from rancid tap water or chemicals added to speed up the process. Great deal in Asda too Budvar and Urqell cans (edited)

    This!!!! All this

Fancy a pint?? Imported of course

I got some mahou from home bargains last week, Spanish cinco estrella 5.1, 330ml bottles 4 for £3.69. very nice. And yes I do check the barcodes . I see the dreaded 501, 503 etc....I'm out

nice beer, there is another on 12x660mm bottles. nicer from a bottle , fewer trips to the fridge and less guilt when you drink 12 than you would if you smashed 24 in

I like the "fewer trips to the fridge" part, you've just convened me I'm a lazy slob

Now the good S&S options have gone, there's also a long wait for delivery.

Same price at Tesco, 6 cans for £5.50
    tesco.com/gro…594
Or cheaper at Morrisons, 12 cans for £10
    groceries.morrisons.com/pro…011

Both options without a long wait. (edited)

All these overseas beers that are brewed in the UK and taste NOTHING like the original in the home countries. And normally less alcohol content (edited)

Will the Staropromen pints you can get in loads of pubs be this brewed in the UK version in general, or always? I really enjoy it, especially when there's not much choice I know I can count on it to be a decent drink. If so, then it wouldn't matter as much to me in this case as that's the only taste of it I've had.
    papaguy's avatar
Thats a really good question! If you enjoy it, just drink it. I just dont like the "#1 Prague Beer in the World" and "Proudly brewed since 1869" bs around it
  13. DJ.Mole's avatar
If its the prague one yes, if its prague in the uk, no

    Stick to budvar! (edited)

So it's a premium import price for a beer brewed in the UK? Description is unclear.
    Headnogood's avatar
No, it’s a cheap beer deal, delivered for some. Others want to discuss provenance and ambiance and act like this isn’t a deal website.

I like the taste of this, I'd bet many others would, I'm not a beer snob, don't give a damn where its Brewed, clearly others do, I care about price and taste (for me) is that so wrong?
    FPTP's avatar
To be fair it's one of the better brewed under license lagers but you'll give a damn if you blind tasted and someone said nah you've gotta drink the Burton one now. Burton water is exceptional for ales but the opposite is true for a light tasting lager.

Pilsner Urqell, brewed in Czech, is £5.75 for 6 cans with your nectar card at Sainsburys.
    wpj's avatar
Sadly, even that is not a patch on how it used to be in the 1970s.... Brewed in pitch coated tanks and it tasted and smelt like it (it was also cloudy, so would be great for today's designer beers). All changed when the communists lost power and EU money started pouring in in the 1990s.

If you're going to get a czech beer ,get budvar, actually brewed in the Czech Republic. Staropramen doesn't even compare.
    FPTP's avatar
Budvar is one of the best lagers for sure. I like Staropramen still, not the one made in Burton that's vile. I think they've made Madri similar to it and pumped it full of syrup 🤮

Walked up once to a coach with Czech number plates and the driver sold me 24 cans of Staropramen. They always carry them for the passengers. Luckily I had my car nearby 😁
    TN567's avatar
Had something similar years ago, a lorry driver from Denmark was at our warehouse and he was selling 24 x 330 cans of proper carlsberg, it weremtbtaht green 4 percent nonsense, it was black cans and something like 6.5 percent. Think it was about £7 for 24

Going back like 25 years ago though
  30. deleted2938888's avatar
    FYI.

12 x 330ml bottles is £11 in Asda, linky below. So if you want 24 for £22 like the amazon deal you'll just need to go into Asda twice.

    Mmmmm..... beer! (edited)

Also Morrisons always (at least for the last 12 months or so) have 2 x 6 packs for £10. UK brewed or not, its a cracking beer especially served in one of their tankards

Where do I input my RAC number?
  32. canada16's avatar
They lowered the ALC and now brewed in the UK.
Was a nice beer, but now its just another Budweiser water beer.
  33. mrgadders's avatar
They are selling bottles of this in Aldi currently but didn't see the price
  34. wolboy's avatar
Showing as £22 for the bottles
  35. HeavyRiffs's avatar
Just bought 12 x 6 packs online at Morrisons as they're 2 for £10 there and used a £15 off a first £60 spend. The code said wasn't applicable against alcohol and cigarettes yesterday, but has worked today. Late delivery slot in a few days for £1.50, so £46.50 for 72 cans, or 64p each.
  36. mrgadders's avatar
Aldi works out the same for bottles.
