I agree about it being dated, we stayed a couple of years ago and thought exactly the same thing. Unless, of course, they've spent some money on it since then. Having looked at the room photos it doesn't look like it.

We stayed there last year, yes nice clean hotel inside, from the outside looks completely different as it's an old MOD building.( which attracted us to it) Hotel not an issue as lovely to walk to Portland lighthouse. My issue was that if you don't like or are scared of dogs or have small children it can be a bit intimidating as the owners have 2 huge free roaming dogs inside the hotel/bar restaurant area which approach you.
Personally you should have the option to approach the dogs and not the other way.
We took our medium sized dog with us and he was scared of them and his not normally like that lucky we was only there for one night.
Lastly all the huge dog feaces on the roundabout outside the hotel wasn't very pleasant to view.

Ex sister stayed there last year wv her fella they luved the hotel. I’ve been to Portland many times, the walks & views are stunning!

The only issue we had was that we couldn't get the room to cool down. A fan was provided, but it was uncomfortably hot. Not that they can predict the weather! The cottages are separate to the main building, and have their own parking area. For breakfast you had a choice of a full English, or bacon cobs, eggs on toast etc... all cooked to order, plus fresh pastries, cereals, fruit, yoghurt and juice which was all self service. It's a golfing hotel, and you can walk through the golf course to reach the beach. It's a fantastic base to explore from. Approx 30 minutes from Sandringham (if that), and not too far from Wells-next-to-sea. The only thing I would say is that the food in the evening is pricey. It's good, but pricey. We found a lovely pub just down the road, King William IV in Sedgeford, and the food was excellent.

Thanks for the advice and tips

Call hotel 1st and check availabilty. Bit of a cheek that all dates i wanted were unavailable with this voucher but there are rooms available if i pay direct to manor and full price. I wasnt even wanting wknd dates. Seems all thats left is next weekend.

What exactly is a Norfolk breakfast? a Turkey sausage and Turkey bacon …What exactly is a Norfolk breakfast? a Turkey sausage and Turkey bacon perhaps?

I’ve made a few notes. Yes, bacon – ten on ten, button mushrooms – bingo, black pudding – snap, erm, minor criticism, more distance between the eggs and the beans. I may want to mix them, but I want that to be my decision. Use a sausage as a breakwater.

I stayed here last October, lovely food, beautiful grounds, about a 25 min drive to buttermere and derwentwater 2 of the best lakes around. Must admit didn't notice any slaughtered cows but I did have a steak and ale pie in the pub close by. Hope I don't turn into a chicken!!!!!

this may not be the best place to stop to experience the more common areas of the lake District. but as another said, Keswick is not too far away and is a lovely place and there are plenty of nearby (1hr nice drive) places to visit.

The mad cow era was about 15 years ago at least!

Hunday Manor is a lovely hotel with beautiful grounds.
Cockermouth is about a 10 minute drive and is a beautiful little town (famous for William Wordsworth).
Keswick is about a 25 minute drive and again is a beautiful little town full of slate buildings, the hustle of tourists and walkers and then you also have the beautiful lake that it is set on.

I wouldn't write this deal off purely due to something that happened in the early 2000's and although it's not right on the lakes it's not a far drive.

I went there on a quick break once.......in the middle of them slaughtering all the cows with mad cow. Not an attractive area. Just happens to be in the same county as the lakes. Better off staying in Carlise or Lancaster - quicker to get to the lakes from them.

I think they've stopped slaughtering cows as a tourist attraction now.

Miles from the lakes.
