    Wow. I've just paid £168 for an 8tb drive. You could leave this plugged into the Shield (or other) with no worries about running out of room for a while

    My last NEW WD external drive failed after only a few uses. As I use external drives for back up, it follows that I want something reliable. I've never had any other brand of external drive fail.

    As I don't know how thorough their recertification process is, I have to assume that it increases the risk of a failure. This may or may not be a correct assumption, but the hassle from a drive failure far outweighs any cost saving from buying a recertified device.

    Bought a couple over the past year for my kids Xbox's. They chuck them in their bags etc when going over to friends as well - they've been absolutely fine no problems.
