Heat, at last.
With that design I'm trying hard not to think about these beauties:

This is still £50 too expensive.

Hopefully some larger capacities too.

Going exclusive with Seagate for nearly 2.5 years was one of the most stupid decision Microsoft have made.
eiamhere69
It was very clearly intentional, I really can't see why they were so stupid, but what ever nefarious reason they had, it's clearly damaged their reputation, a lot.

Id snap up a 1tb for £100 or the half TB for £50. I'll rotate games from the standard external harddrive until then, its not a huge issue
nobbynuts
This should be 60 max. Especially as memory is constantly dropping

No chance we were going to get to £60 for proprietary storage, £100 would have been good though. At least it’s a good step in the right direction, from £220 to £129, if Microsoft bother to stock them then I’ll buy one with my Reward points.
There’s a few things keeping the price high, the license fees to MS and the fact that it’s 2230 size not the standard cheaper to produce in volume 2280, plus it’s in a custom hot swappable enclosure. Regular ssd inside an enclosure are more pricey than a standard model and those aren’t hot swappable.
Lastly there’s just not that many potential customers who would buy this, there’s what 10-15 million Series console owners and the majority of those would be cheap Series S owners who wouldn’t be buying expensive storage, compared to a manufacturer of a regular 2280 drive who has an audience of 40 million PS5 and a few hundred million PC and misc devices that could potentially buy the product.
So you are quite correct it should be cheaper, but it’s also very easy to see why the product is nowhere near as cheap as the drives I can buy for my pc and ps5.

Still very grateful I got my 1TB expansion card for free on launch with my XSX. - I would like to upgrade though, 2-4TB

Any news on 2tb?

And they called me mad for claiming that other third party SSD expansions cards for the series console were coming lol.........oh and just as a comparison the Seagate 512gig is £110.
My next prediction about a revised series S/X with more on internal storage out the box is next. (edited)
eiamhere69
Who called you mad? It's been known third party drives were coming, they were expected last year even.
The revised console is rumoured and I would say even expected, the same patterns every time.

Hopefully Microsoft store will stock these unlike the Seagate that's been out of stock since November. I have 80,000 points so should get a good £70 off.

Why is it £20 more on WD website. Looks like a price error. Still no way paying £150 give me a call when it’s £100
And why is the search so terrible on hotukdeals I searched for all sorts of phrases and items and this would not show. I so dislike the search on the app it’s terrible

Cheers time to chop in my 512 Seagate me thinks
Lestat69
Finally!
The long wait is over!!!
This combined with drop in prices of 2230 will see £100 for 1 TB soon enough:)
Neocalg
Wow, my 7GB one I bought a year ago cost £68!

Apples and oranges though, ssd and hdd
avidmuffin
Oooo didn't know there were others! Nice!

Thank goodness that new options are finally becoming available

Just wish they had gone the same way as Sony.
Nujol
Wow in come WD and straight off the bat £20 less than the Seagate former monopoly on these.
Now they need to shave off most of the £40 surcharge for it being basically in a fancy case.
Lestat69
I am sure when this is on offer, you will see decent reduction - after all the Seagate 1TB is £149.99 and was that price multiple times over the course of years when on sale… I reckon this will be £100 on sale or less:)
Tempted to go for 512 GB for Series S:)
I am good with 1TB on SX and extra 1TB SSD - I know there is never enough space for all the games out there but with my backlog, happy to play non series X/S optimised games Just wished MS would stop releasing Game Pass games that could run on SNES with Series X/S optimised attached to them…

About time!!!!

I love you WD!
