    why are these called butts?

Butt generally means a cask, used for wine, beer or water in this case. Butt in this sense comes from Old French boute ("cask")

Stick a couple of lumps of regular BBQ Charcoal( not easy light or briquette) in the water butt to keep the water sweet.

    Sweet?

Have 5 of these for 3rd year and it does job well. Have connected to flush toilet too, watering flowers and garden, wash my car with pressure washer, saved me a lot of money. (edited)

Do you use an electric pump to feed the toilet?

I have a 100l and 210l currently. Use it for watering vegetables and jet washing things too.

I am thinking of getting a 1000l tank and putting it under a new patio I'm planning.

Anyone know if the downpipe diversion kit with it will fit square downpipe as well as round?

    Yes does both

Sad I know but water butts are one of the best things I've ever bought lol.

Buckets of water to flush the toilet from my half dozen water butts, saves on the water bill (£20-25 a quarter) and helps the planet, can't quite bring myself to use it for showering, though.

Check with your local council and or water authority. Bought 200l last year for £10 from council.

Still have to install mine from Aldi. Good price for the size.
BTW I bought 2x 100ltr because I was afraid that 200 ltr is too heavy. People have reported that they sometimes collaps. (edited)

the underside of the stand is hollow, you can just pour concrete into it to make it a "solid" base.

These are massive. So wide. Better off with a 160l. Plenty still
