    Thanks bought 3 years worth and upgraded to Ultimate for £1, total cost £81.97 (minus whatever Quidco tracks at)

    Worth mentioning that my usual free VPN (Hola) didn't work for South Africa but UrbanVPN did the job great. (edited)

    Don't use hola, it makes you a node in their network allowing others to use your ip for illegal activity. At least it used to a while ago when I stopped using it

    Your cheapest way to get a year is through eBay 1 month deals as they’re £1.74 each. If you ain’t bothered to enter a code every month then it’s the best deal.

    So you buy the code, use a VPN to login to the South African Microsoft website, redeem the code, then you're good to go?

    Go to redeem.microsoft.com then log in to your account as normal. Then switch on the VPN and redeem the codes.

    I used NORDVPN personally, but unfortunately I don't know of any free ones as I don't use them. A quick Google brought up Urban VPN on the Google Play Store, but I don't know if it's any good.

    Once redeemed you do not need to use a VPN. You only need a VPN for the purposes of redeeming the code (edited)

    12 Months Gold will convert to 4 months Ultimate. You need to let your Ultimate subscription expire before attempting to do a Gold to Ultimate conversion.

    Does anyone know what the situation is with Microsoft banning people for using VPN to access these codes?
    I've almost got enough rewards points to buy a series x and don't want to risk them to save a few pence per month.

    I've been doing it since 2017 and buying games from other regions long before that without any issues. Personally I think the only time you get issues are if you do something iffy like buy the code from someone who has bought it with a stolen credit card. Using a reputable seller like CDKeys keeps you safe from this. (edited)

    If you had game pass before from say Turkey and you then get a new subscription from a different region does that cause any issues on your games/saves/addons etc?

    I got my last subscription from Turkey and this one from South Africa. I them used a UK/EU Gamepass key to convert it.

    Yes Gold is to allow online play. But if the game is free to play, Fortnite for example, then online play is free. So if your lad only plays these free games then you won't need Xbox Gold.

    It’s not dumb and yes you can but make sure you don’t choose the extra month free for setting up a recurring payment as I’m sure the limit is 3 years.

    Isn't it cheaper to just buy the 1 month GPU codes and stack them as they work for existing users.

    That sometimes happens but just try again later. It's intermittent server issues on Microsofts end.

    Did something similar yesterday . 12 months Xbox live from turkey for £26 and then bought a code for ultimate for a month for £1.74.. Think it was £27.80 for the year with GPU
