Tip- if you've got time, use a soldering iron to melt cuts instead of cutting it using scissors. Melting it prevents the nightmare of frayed edges everywhere and strings of plastic, makes it last longer.

It cuts fine with good scissors. Even if it did fray it's quite a tight weave and not really an issue if it's getting covered over.52734755-wkTPQ.jpg

    This seems expensive to me.

    For 50m? Pretty reasonable tbh.

Home bargains membrane is only 70gsm. Not good for driveways or gravel footpaths. This stuff is 100gsm.

I’d say it’s a good price I bought 2x 25 meter for £27 plus vat this week….. with trade discount.

So do these membranes actually work?

Was told by a friend who does block paving that the weeds don’t grow underneath the bricks but between the joints.

Silver sand between the gaps is the key to a weed free driveway.

Which makes this cover pretty much obsolete surely?

Depends on what was there before, something with established roots like a bramble will keep growing underneath and try to get through any crack. We had a drain cover collapse, they couldn't get through the metal but in trying they'd literally crushed the concrete. Certainly weeds without an underground root system just settle in the cracks though. Kettle of boiling water works fine.

Is this really suitable for a gravel driveway though? Be interested if the home bargain one is of equal quality???

I’ve got the home bargains one at my allotment both bare on paths and under gravel in my greenhouse. Both have stuff growing through them within a year and the picture looks the same quality as homebargains one
