I wouldn't get on a plane during these times if first class was free!

I've had no end of issues with them so far - due to Covid I wished to change my dates from May 2020 (in hindsight should have taken the option to accept a cancellation voucher and argue about it 12m later when it expired) - it took me a long call to get them to admit that their own website said that any type of booking (even the moist basic) could be changed for free to another date so long as the price was the same (and I was lucky enough to find another date where it was). As it was I had to accept 8 vouchers for all the seat bookings, and meal options, but seeing as you could only use 3 vouchers per booking they were pretty useless. After 5 months they allowed me to 'cash' them in as they yet again changed their rules. Trouble is the dates I want are Nov 2021, and those aren't out even now, so I had to change to Feb 2021, and hope they'll allow me to change again in 3-4 weeks when all of Nov 2021 comes up on the system. Now I notice that whilst Virgin Atlantic flights are included as options on AF site, the ones I see on VA website aren't coming up on AF website for the same journey and dates etc.

walio

Been flying with them for the past 10 years at least few times a year, not had any major issues, a few delayed flights, but never missed a connection with them. Food is ok and service is also OK.

Couldn't pay me enough to board an Air France flight. Their time keeping and customer service is shocking.

I note they now avoid Iran and trundle down the border lands of Iraq...gonna be an interesting flight.

justwindingyouup

I hope you don I hope you don't get caught in the crossfire near Iran.

patg2005

So i've heard, they say things have deteriorated markedly in the last couple of years. I'm flying with them on Sunday and will be taking my own snacks! Will feedback my opinion. Safety is however fine with them unlike AF.

justwindingyouup

Better than Emirates’ extremely poor service...

patg2005

Good prices but AF are on my "no fly" list on the recommendation of a pilot friend. Their safety record, both crashes and incidents, compared with the likes of BA/Luft/Quantas etc., is abysmal, mostly due to poor management leading to inadequate pilots and maintenance/operational issues. Of course the chances of any flight coming to grief are small, but I for one am not prepared to support them with my custom. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_France_accidents_and_incidents

nice one mate. didn't realise about the airport car rental taxes. will bear that in mind when booking. appreciate it.

Bobbins

If you are booking a rental car, do not collect at SEA airport! Seattle has some crazy taxes on airport collection which increases the cost of the rental by 60-70%, when compared to collecting off-airport. Therefore, start the rental at a satellite office away from the airport, or downtown Seattle, and then specifiy return to the airport. For example I've just booked a full size car for 11 days with Hertz directly for £274, collecting the car downtown Seattle (Westlake) and returning to the SEA airport. The same car would have been £454 if I started the rental at SEA airport. It is a well known rip off if you google it. If you have an Amex use CDP 705500 for a further 10% off Hertz rentals. If found booking diect with Hertz cheaper than going through the numerous consolidators.

Bobbins

The fare is still alive.

Red_Robbo

So what? For that price I could go to Palma from Bristol 7 times. But that's not the same thing. Just like Yellowknife from Gatwick isn't the same thing. (ninja)

i have also booked now - great prices - cheers to the original poster

And make sure you alternate between credit card and charge cards and refer a friend. I always cancel one card wait 6 months and reapply in the interim having the other American Express Credit or Rewards card. Also if you book with Etihad and use their 'Bid for Upgrade' you can get upgrades very cheap.

Amazing to find a headforpoints member on hotukdeals! I can second that. Me and my partner both get the BA premium card to get 2 for 1 redemption flights. We are a family of 4 so all go business class long haul for our main holiday once a year for less than a economy ticket. It's amazing!

stave84

BA most achievable- collect Avios via Amex credit cards and you won’t have to actually pay for the flights. Have a look at HeadForPoints.com for advice. We fly first usually to Caribbean at least once a year, for less than the cost of an economy fare. Qatar/Emirates/Etc all nicer than BA but impossibly hard to get for free/Cheap.

Booked Osaka with netflights for less than 900 each. You can also break journey on way there, spending a day in Paris, though we didn't do this.

Yes, huge

deleted724178

They are better, and thus are able to fill their flights at a much higher price point. I have flown UK to Tokyo about 70 times over the past 17 years. I flew both JAL and CX in 1st class earlier this year and was very very impressed KLM has installed a much nicer business class interior recently, from dismal to very good indeed in one leap

Akama

Yeah, transfer to another airline would work, but as you may know at least over here that means collecting baggage, and transferring. Just as well going "premium economy" with KLM direct and hassle free. As I say great deal if it works for you.

Spark

They could just get a jetstar or ANA connection from NRT.

That Maglev hits 431km Per hour at top speed so that 50km distance isnt really an issue http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_Maglev_Train not like the Easyjet 90 mins €30 coach trip from the destination you thought you'd booked

dodgymix

shame its Airfrance awful airline Wont let you check in at initial airport if you are flying via paris so you have to somehow check in Paris, ended up sitting 30 odd seats away from the person i was with for 12 hours (who doesnt like flying at best of times) no other airline is so incompetent I also flew back from Rio on Airfrance the same day & same time exactly a year before the airfrance crash (with no survivors) so take that as an omen to never fly with them again. good price if you dont mind Shanghai is great fun That train is a bit quick from the airport

deleted26681

no no I see your logic! I guess it works for someone who doesnt have the option of over time? or make that stop off part of your holiday? erm I think, airport shopping, a drink? xxx And thanks for the useful information, I just like to try and keep it honest, nothing worse than someone popping up and saying @OMGGGGGGGGGG 50km from airport and no transfers included xxx

Ian182

Didn't even really think pigs had eyelashes. But I guess why would't they?

deleted852789

Great deal Stacey! Aww, i'm stuck though. I always have a decision to make with indirect flights. In this case, i could work overtime for the extra 7 hours i'll be sat in the airport and use the money earned to buy direct flights - strange logic I know but what do others think? Oh ps, Pudong is far away as you say but it's like being at Gatwick. Also 50km in China is like walking to the corner shop for us Brits, the magnetic trains from the airport run into Shanghai so so frequently.

is this deal still on? what are the cheapest flights that everyone is getting?

deleted42588

I got stranded in Singapore when the Icelandic volcano blew. Air France were the ONLY airline that didn't book accomodation for its stranded passengers. Even Ryanair behaved better!

Supasuv

Got a really good price at £382 from Dublin-San fran and then Vegas-london (road trip to Vegas). Problem is getting to Dublin in the first place. No flights early enough before Dublin departure time. (not taking the late flight and 26hr journey!) Also, you have to remember that if any journey to Dublin is delayed and you miss your flight, the airlines won't cover you. Ultimately, I was looking at £100-125 for journey to Dublin and overnight stay. I'd rather pay the premium extra few quid and get ease of mind travelling from London. A great deal, but unless you're a resident of Ireland or a UK resident getting good prices for travelling to Dublin, this deal is hard to work out.

deleted6459

Yes; I can get it to about £440 now, but still not in to the three hundreds; it seems very much like hit and miss if you pic the right date/travel combination? Is there a way to display the cheap flights and start from there?

good price for a flight to New York, but if i went at christmas shopping times i'd spend half a day buying knock-offs from China Town then spend the rest of the trip checking out the sights.

scousemanblue

Not as cheap as it used to be due to the £ against the $. I was there May/June and the only area we saved money was the Woodbury Common Outlet. This is about 45mins outside New York and you get the grey line bus from the bus station. $21 per adult.
