We had Family Annual Pass for several years when the kids were young. It was an amazing deal. Kids loved it - we could go as often as we wanted - lots of extra perks too for being members. Free access to many zoos round UK including Chester Zoo. This is a No Brainer if you live near Edinburgh and have kids. And Edinburgh Zoo does have very active breeding programmes and Animal Welfare programmes doing in conjunction with University of Edinburgh "Dick" Vet School. So I think best to stop any criticism of this deal.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-24533158 Sad news :(
I wasn't thinking about family actually. You are right, for a family it is rather a good deal.
So in other words there is no best zoo in the world according to you? A zoo should be considered very good if it has large number of animal of different species, the exhibits are large, the animals are kept in very good condition, provides good facility for the visitors etc. Edinburgh zoo is small so it misses one of the main criteria to be considered a very good zoo.
And you gave one which was 200 miles away. Nice and handy for a family wanting a day out, I do not think so!

Edinburgh Zoo, Less than half price for kids £5£5
Had a grand day out with my 3 kids at Edinburgh Zoo yesterday, popped on-line to check out price before I went, and found only £5 for kids (usually £11), works out cheaper than fam… Read more
I am defo going when the pandas arrive and I live hundreds of miles away.
But you will still go to Edinburgh Zoo when the Panda's arrive.
Please if anyone finds a fare lower than £1.80 that qualifies can they post it up.
You should post this as a deal, as better than the one posted above - or are there restrictions. As you don't actually need to use the rail ticket buying the £ 1.80 ticket is cheaper than buying the £ 5 child ticket. Edit - ah see it has already been posted but it is not clear that you can get a child ticket to the zoo for £ 1.80 https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/kids-go-free-scotland-only-scotrail/987573
you can also get kids go free if you buy a scottish kidsgo free railway ticket.Try the scot rail website .Cheapest fare I found was Kingsnowle to Westerhaile (£1.80). Get your ticket here ,free UK delivery http://www.scotrail.co.uk/kidsgofree Edinburgh is great zoo if you like the more unusual and rare species. If you want big dangerous animals it's not for you. It's a thinking person's zoo. Beware if you have pushchair kids or dodgy knees it is built on the side of a steep hill

We went to Edinburgh Zoo in feb a few years back (free for us as Edinburgh is one of the zoos that offers free entry to annual members of Bristol Zoo!) - it was cold and as we got to the highest point of the hill it started snowing! I'd endorse the comment about the penguins - they were just standing huddled looking miserable! The (heated) monkey hosue, however was very popular. Anyway, we did enjoy the day there and it looks like a good offer.
i do have kids thanks for the offer thou :-)

Kids go for a Fiver at Edinburgh Zoo!£5
Edinburgh Zoo is offering you the chance to enjoy a great family day out - and kids are only a fiver! That's a saving of over 50% on the normal cost of child tickets. All you need… Read more
It's the glasgow sept weekend coming up(hurrah!), it's gonna be full of weegies like me...
My wife and I went to Edinburgh zoo a few years ago (drove from Norfolk!) and we were very impressed. The penguins were great - one of the few places to see King penguins in the uk, apart from Birdland in Gloucestershire (which supplied the penguins for Batman Returns!) as was the uk's only polar bear, Mercedes. We enjoyed Edinburgh zoo alot more than London zoo and equally as much as Colchester zoo - feeding the elephants at Colchester has to be experienced
Going to Edinburgh at half term so thanks, think we'll use this!
Edinburgh Zoo pricing are as follows (id you do not add the gift aid donation) Adults £13.95 Child 3 - 15 years £9.90 Child (under 3) FREE Concession (ID Required) £11.70 Family Tickets 2 Adults & 2 Children £42.90 2 Adults & 3 Children £51.80 1 Adult & 2 Children £30.30 1 Adult & 3 Children £39.20 CarPark £3.50 The deal help's a lot for single child parents, since they never get the family ticket deals to benefit from. Everyones visit to the zoo is what they make of it, but everytime I go I come back knowing I have been able to view the animals I have wished to see. Oh and if anyone feels upset that they never saw an animal because it was sleeping, they arnt going to wake them up for you ;) It happens at all zoo's Berlin, San Diego, Madrid. Anyhow, anyone that has an interest in going, and has a child wishing to see, then its a good deal. If you follow the daily talks, you will see the animals being fed and clicker trained as well.

It's normally pretty expensive, so that's a great deal when you have no idea where to take the kids before all the christmas stuff starts. It'll be BALTIC up at the top though...
Edinburgh Zoo is well worth a visit, the penguins and the big cats are particularly lovely.
