I think the ipad hardware has way surpassed the OS, so until they do something with the OS I don't see the point in spending more money for better hardware that is held back.
Who knows what WWDC holds, Apple probably know they need to step up their OS now so having an M1 iPad Pro with the speed and power it has, will make it perform leaps and bounds above the old chips. I don't doubt the old chips will work but if you're going to be running powerful apps (we can hope) then future proofing the iPad for the next 5 years with an M1 chip is worth the extra £130 investment in the short term.
I got rid of mine as I was hoping I could use it to replace my everyday mobile computing needs but it just doesn't. They have the power but are hampered with extremely limiting software. I had the magic keyboard and hoped it would be good but just silly things like trying to talk through online chat on a website was a frustrating mess the way iOS handles it.
The M1 will just further boost power that you can't take advantage of unless you're using it for video editing work. Although even then it's still hampered by situations like Apple still not giving users the option to properly display the screen on an external monitor.
Apple will continue to try and separate its iPad and Laptop range so I wouldn't expect to many features from Mac OS to come across even with the M1.

If you want the best experience get the 2021 ipad. This is last years model.
Fair point I'll call for a taxi
The new 12.9 is the only one with the mini LED screen. You are correct, everything else is the same in the 11 inch version. But beware, there are rumours of some display screen issues with the new 12.9 version.
So you think this is better than the 2021 model?
At this point, only few limited applications make us of the extra horse power of the M1 chip.
Whenever one is buying the M1 iPad, they are hoping that something big is coming in the future.
If you're only going to be using the iPad Pro for consumption, it makes no difference and last year iPad is far better value.
If you're one of the dreamers and want to future proof it (for whatever that is worth) you pay the extra and get the M1.
iPad's traditionally come out with new hardware and same old software for the iPad, 6 months down the line, apple will announce update that will add extra features to it. (edited)
Obviously not but to me it's like having a ferrari and only being able to drive at 70mph, way overkill.
If you want the latest and greatest then the newer model is always going to be the best but for what the ipad is capable of I think previous generations are more than adequate.
I don't think the latest model has enough advantages over it's predecessors to warrant paying the premium.
If money is not a consideration then just get the latest.
So you don't disagree with what i said then.
Thats a lot of text to not answer a question.
To some degree yes I do, I don't think the experience will differ too much with either model. Your comment is a bit of a generalisation and is dependent on the situation and applications being used.
My comment is impossible to disagree with since it is just a fact.
The new one is better, and the year is 2021 which is 1 more than 2020.
I never mentioned value for money at all.
Every iPad under the umbrella will do that.
If you want to watch media and browse the internet, the only difference between them all is the screen.
Base iPad & iPad Air do this just fine, the different is the screen, the iPad air will have a nicer, more colourful screen.
From reviews I watched, old 11" iPad Pro screen vs new one is nearly identical if not the same.
So if that's your only concern, save some cash and buy the old one.
So if you were editing a word document the user experience would be better?
Yes, imperceptibly better but since we are being pedantic to salvage a petty point scoring game why not.
No.
Yep. It's silly to blindly consume the new one when the majority of the improvements have gone to the 12.9.
Until they unify MacOS or allow full native usage of desktop apps, the 2018 onwards are fine.
Out of interest what do you mean by majority of improvements are in the 12.9? I though the only difference as on the screen, the rest is the same
I'd say go for the iPad air 4 if you can find a good deal that's better value for your needs
Well if you can't make out an answer in there buddy, either you or me have to go back to grammar school
I know which way I'm voting
