Very questionably, they choose to "helpfully" switch on auto renew when you add more PS plus without making this clear.
Friend has been stung for the full 50 quid without being aware when his ran out.

Yeah, I think that might be the issue. I just did it via paypal and it worked, so if you guys are having issues still, try that. When you guys attempted and failed directly with the card, there hasnt been any charges to the card has there when checked via the bank app?

So, Sony have reached out to notify us that a very small number of codes generated, were generated incorrectly and resulted in a very small number of customers receiving codes that would not redeem, deeming that the code had already been used.
We wish to apologise for this as this does not, and has not happened to us before.
A new code has been generated for you, and will show under the same order number.

Alot of people have had no issues, but from my experience this year I would be redeeming now just in case it doesn't work
You can apply the code at Xmas. If you apply the code now you could get this months PS Plus games if your son would play them. You can setup an account on the website. Also what games will they be playing? If they play that Fortnite it doesn't require PS Plus.

you can redeem it now and it'll stack on top of your current expiry date, so you don't have to worry about holding on to the code. For example mine expires on 15th dec 2021 - bought and added - now it's 15th dec 2022
Times have changed unfortunately. Think of it this way aside from having time to play online. You get discounts from ps store. So eventually it will cover the costs if you bag a game or 2 at a good price on top of that you might get a decent ps plus game every now and then. I'm not against paying for a subscription what really does tick me off is that they make you pay for the same game many times. Like that ghost of Tsushima trap for ps5 upgrade. Or how some deluxe editions have just a soundtrack and no proper additional content. Also Spiderman remastered is only obtainable through the purchase of Spiderman Morales ultimate edition which is still at a ripoff price lmao.

This is only useful if you keep up your subscription, as if not you lose access to those PS Plus games.
PS Plus is basically holding those games to ransom in this way as you are really then technically only ever 'renting' them.

Could be wrong here, but with ShopTo you had to activate the code within a week (maybe a bit less) of buying it or its no longer active. If bought from a physical retail shop, then it's usually 12 months you have to activate it. So if you're buying it as a gift they'll need to activate it soon. If you're buying it for yourself and have PS+ currently, it'll just add on to that so no worries.
This could have all changed though and you might get longer to activate it, await and see what others say.
Got the code fine from shopto but when trying to redeem it on Christmas day on the playstation it wouldn't work. Not sure if I was just unlucky or if it had expired. Took the risk again today as it was a good deal and it was fine just redeemed it straight away on the playstation instead of waiting until Christmas to give it my son.
Yea, you roughly pay £30, get £35 on PSN, buy PS+ for £33 and got £2 left over (so PS+ for £28). You can only do it once though afaik, so if you wanna stack more you'll have to get this deal we're in.
This happened to me last Christmas with shopto. They was rubbish, Ignored me for a couple of weeks so ended up going through PayPal for a refund. Thankfully they sorted it. Never did hear anything back still to this day. I will never use shopto without PayPal as I wouldn't of got a refund without them. I did take the risk again today to buy this as the deal was good and my sons runs out at Christmas but this time I didn't wait to redeem it and it was fine luckily. Best thing you can do is try to get the money back with PayPal or the bank.
A digital code will have at least 12 months timescale before it needs to be redeemed, if it is for PS Plus, you can 'stack' this for several years which will extend the expiry date of the online subscription
