Don't bother with this, it's a laggy mess. Get the 4k max. It's like night and day, especially in the Prime app.

I hardly notice a difference between 4k and 4k max. The original one before i had the 4k was a laggy mess mind

Thanks for all the replies re sideloading Downloader app onto a Firestick,,very helpful, but I really wanted to ask is the same possible on a Roku stick, again as i need to use abroad with an IPTV app as a few people seem to rate the Roku stick higher than Firestick.
    Deedie's avatar
If IPTV is your aim, just get a 4k firestick. Much easier to get up and running

How do below 2 compare please? What are their differences?
Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote HD vs ROKU Express HD Streaming Media Player

    Many thanks

Roku > No volume control (Unless you buy the voice remote), No SkyGo (If that matters), HD not 4k (Compared ot the 4k version), less/no "Bloat/Adware", NO Bluetooth.
Amazon > Volume Control!, Can Sideload, Bluetooth!

Personally I hate "Voice" remotes and errr, sponsored remotes (Disney+ Button, but no Disney+, great). The recent Nerf on Amazon Music makes it nothing but adverts - for itself... *shrug*... My Fire Stick melted behind the TV Too BUT I still think it's a nice product.
I use Headphones when I watch TV usually, so Bluetooth and Volume Control are big selling points to me. (edited)

Are these good with WiFi? Other TVs I have are either hard wired with cat5 cable or homeplugs and powerline as sometimes performance in wi-fi is a bit rubbish

Anyone comment on performance of these?

Comes up as normal price for me even though my alexa app is enabled on my phone

Whats the difference between this and the fire TV 4k max please?
    SnoopZ's avatar
If you are comparing the basic model it'll be alot slower so spend a few £s more and either get a 4K or 4K Max you won't regret it, it's also probably best to wait for Black Friday.

  10. stec77's avatar
With owning the fire stick is it worth the hassle of installing lots of apps and builds or is just worth getting an iptv subscription to avoid headaches!? Thanks in advance.
    Usman_Arshad_07's avatar
I’ve got IPTV on it and it’s banging. Save so much mullah
  11. Bensafc's avatar
Never had one before, heard they are decent. Already got a OLED tv though, what benefits would a fire stick offer and which one would people recommend?
    SlowBandit's avatar
Aside from support for apps and other features that your tv might not natively support (rarer nowadays) the main reason to buy one is because typically the performance of smart TVs when using apps is sluggish. Some TVs are better than others but generally manufacturers put in cheap weak processors and that can result in choppy or sluggish performance when using the inbuilt apps.

Sticks and boxes like the Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku etc can offer better performance than your tv, although it is dependent on the model of the stick/box and the individual tv.

The other big thing they offer is software updates. A lot of the tv manufacturers tend to be quite bad at updating the software on their TVs to offer better performance, new features or new interface improvements. But if you buy a dedicated streaming device like a FireTV or Apple TV you will get software updates for years.

Sometimes TVs receive very few or very rare updates or none at all. Whereas even as cheap FireTv stick might get plenty of updates, updates that can even improve performance. (edited)

is the fire TV region based? like if you buy it from another region it doesn't have some of the UK apps?
    jujuzeez's avatar
yes it's geolocked for licensing reasons. Netflix UK is different from Netflix usa on 🔥 tv
  13. NathanJamesShaw's avatar
Can you get Sky Go on the fire stick?
    jujuzeez's avatar
    no
  14. Lucozade's avatar
Any1 used this with the £7 off delivery to a pick up point amazon voucher?
    newbie68's avatar
No, but it should work perfectly fine. Meets all the criteria - sold/dispatched by Amazon and over £20. It's a slower delivery for me when I use pick up points (could be my area just) so I choose something I'm in no hurry for.
  15. Helpful567's avatar
have an old firestick version 1 which was very laggy

Have just clicked on trade in on the amazon page

20% discount immediately applied and £2.99 trade in value cashback
    SnoopZ's avatar
You won't regret it make sure you get atleast a 4K though.
  16. weeZl's avatar
Sorry if I'm going over old ground, but can you stream 4k with this to a hisense 4k TV?
My hisense display looks no different when in 4k mode. TIA
    SnoopZ's avatar
Go to search type 4K then play something, you may see it starts off saying HD 1080p when you pause it but it should eventually change to Ulta HD on the menu, atleast it does for me. (edited)

Usually £19.99 during black Friday or prime events. Mind you, with inflation as it is, maybe £22.99 is the new £19.99!
  18. debschillen0704's avatar
Can you record onto this pls as there is conflicting answers online
    jaffamuffin's avatar
Yes. Or No, depending. But mostly No. maybe yes though.

Is the 4k Max available with WiFi 6 on offer?
  20. thr0tt's avatar
I have the original FireTV stick well a few but moved to using Roku much more as its cleaner, snappier and has everything the FireTV has and a little more. Even though I pay for Prime I can get that on Roku and Sky so I guess its interface preference and if you like the Netflix experience i.e. bombarded with constant Ads.
