Bought this as a present for my mum and sister. 10/10 recommend. We got like 4 and a half hours in Amsterdam, the entertainment was great, spacious cabins and just a great time really, there is also not much border control for those who like that kind of stuff. Highlight was being on the boat, variety of bars, a cinema and the shows were great. Recommend 10/10. Also, the food was some of the best I've had.

Where can i find out how long you actually get in Amsterdam?
    Haircut_100's avatar
    Haircut_100
It won't be long. The itinery states that you arrive at the IJmuiden port at 9.45am and the coach departs at 10.15am. It then departs Amsterdam at 15.30am. I think it's just under a 40 minute drive from the port to the city centre so you are looking at around 4.5hrs in Amsterdam.

We do this ferry all the time as we're from Scotland but live in the Netherlands. Its absolutely horrible - a night on the way there and back in a small uncomfortable cabin bed.

Then just a few hours in Amsterdam...

I wouldnt wish this 'holiday' on my worst enemy.

I almost imagine it ruin the experience of Amsterdam for many a rushed run around the place in about 3 hours

Food and drink on the boat is expensive. That's how they make their money.

Is there a way to return 2 days later? Was thinking of booking a hotel the 2nd night but don't see a way of selecting return other than the day after..

You could take the cruise one-way. Then return differently.

Baffles my head that people would sit on a boat for a day to spend 4 hours in Amsterdam then spend another day on the boat to come home.

It's the experience of being on a boat. I took my missus for her birthday 28th Dec. We had a great time on the ferry had a laugh. Got to Amsterdam viewed some places had food and came back. Was a nice weekend away spending time together.
Certainly better places to be but she'd never been on a boat.

I been last month. Honest experience. Felt like what i was described, in 1 word its was a pure RUSH, you only get 4 hour max in Amsterdam so 100% not worth unless you wants to spend your time in Ferry

Agree / awful experience and North Sea can be very sea sick worthy. On my experience half the passengers are stood on deck waiting for dry land

Before Covid you could get a bus from London Victoria to take you Amsterdam and back whenever you wanted. The sailing in the winter is really rough so dont expect to feel too good in Amsterdam. Would never sail again unless a nice summer day - fly only in an hour, often cheap flights around. Beware of thieves in Amsterdam - so full up of them. If its not locked onto you it will be missing when you go to look for it. Lived 12 years in Holland was glad to leave.

Surely you'd want to spend at least a night in Amsterdam? Four hours is barely long enough to eat a meal! I don't see the point of this at all.

Don’t do it / fly and stay over. Room on boat is no bigger than a shed, spend only about 4 hours in Amsterdam and rest is on the boat (edited)

And if you can't fly? Not everyone likes flying. Obviously not bad for them. Heat given

An hour in the baccy shop then 4 hours in the Old Sailor. All you need.

This would be good if the option to stay over in Amsterdam for a night was reasonable, but it's always increased the cost significantly
  21. smokedsausage's avatar
    smokedsausage
If you are a legal smoker then you would save the cost on the 10 x 50g duty free baccy alone.!
Suppose even more if tempted to forget you have another 10 in the bag
Not advice obviously and stay legal,a mark on your file ALL baccy taken and flagged up everytime you return abroad.
    Jax_Dagger's avatar
    Jax_Dagger
And then when they find the ones you "accidently" left in your bag you haven't saved anything lol, since brexit they are not as relaxed as they once where with us either, not worth it.

What's the point you spend more time on the North Sea than in Amsterdam . Unless you want to go on a day trip to smuggle
    WeeJoe's avatar

It's like a budget cruise - cinema, entertainment, bars, so part of the trip is actually being on board.

Beware travelling out on Saturday 25th March.
The clocks go forward that night. You may lose an hour in Amsterdam, depending how it affects the sailing times. (edited)

unless you want to specifically take a cruise then with all the added extras a flight will not only be similar and probably cheaper but you get a lot more time to spend to Amsterdam too.
    monkeyhanger75's avatar
    monkeyhanger75
No it won't. At the right time you might get an equivalently priced flight, but once you factor in a hotel room (even a crappy one) the price is way up.

    You're comparing apples with oranges.

I’ve just booked it with my 10 week old, we’re going to stick her on the floor in the bassinet of her pram! We’re doing it as a 2 week stay through rather than 2 night mini cruise. There is no option for cots etc as an add on unfortunately.

One of the worst experiences was not able to find bus back to ferry so remember you should remember the location to pick up from as they have no sign of DFDS or any information.
