They have never been as cheap as they were a year ago but still useful for the amount of quality included in the 4K range.
Find them quick and means I never have to use normal Smart TV which is slow in comparison

sorted bySo what the hell does that mean for consumers. AV1 does more with less, i.e. you get better quality video at the same bandwidth/data usage, or the same quality video for less bandwidth/data usage.
Personally, since it's £5 more, I'd get the Max. The rest of the additions (i've just noticed the table below) would make it easily worth it IMO. Better WiFi, more RAM, more CPU/GPU speed, and the addition of AV1 if that's still only on the Max.
Going to cancel sky as this is better value overall
We all know it’s happening and manufacturers still think we are blind to it. Honestly I’d rather they just told us when they were going to make them suck so we can plan ahead.
QVC couple of months ago. Cant be that hot.
When I recently visited someone with an older firestick it was very slow. I don't know which version it was, but for me the age of the stick was the issue, so any comparisons being made should be based on comparative versions.
Handy if you've got a 1st gen knocking around somewhere
Currys have updated their price
Currys Fire Stick 4K - £39.99 (entire range same price as Amazon)
Got the firestick 4K for half this price a couple of months ago from QVC.
Over the years i normally buy 4k firestick for family or friends and always get it for sub £30 (normally from Amazon on offer)
About time they were USB C (edited)
Have to get another one as someone somehow broke it... It don't come on at all? (edited)
Update: Thanks for your replies. Will go for the 4k then as I think the tele is due an upgrade soon too (edited)
so bought a 4k max (as i have wifi 6 on my unifi 6 AP) from currys for the same price - just so i could get topcashback vouchers + cashback… and collect it this evening!!
nearly bought one last week.
can confirm the give you the 20% trade in straight away
Brought the max down to £35.99
That's a better product than any fire stick, IMO
I have an old(ish) LG tv (~6 years or so), and it's fine but the Youtube streaming app seems to have a very odd (I assume manufacturer specific) issue where it freezes, then does a fast-forward to catch up the picture...if one of these can solve that then I'm in....
Sideloading apps is a big plus with a Firestick I don't know if you can do that with the Chromecast. (edited)
I wouldn't bother upgrading from a 4K stick just for those buttons, I only did it for the Max to get BBC iPlayer in 4K and I was craving to spend a little money. (edited)
