    Long term apple fan,
Left android many years ago after endless lagging and crashing of apps. Was very happy with apple despite their super greedy nature and endless scams to try to get more of our money. But recently got pixel 6a to play and compare, compared it to iPhone 12 and 14. Which are around 4 times tbe price of the pixel 6a I bought from Vodafone for 189. I didn’t have any hopes at all due to the price I pinned it down as a budget back up handset.
However after comparing, I am absolutely shocked at the fact that overall I ld say the 189 handset is better than the 800 apple.

The screen on the pixel has a cleaner and richer display.
The camera of the pixel has one of the best pics of any smart phone and certainly brighter than the iPhone. U can argue it’s only 12MB but unless u r going to blow the pic of the size of a house u won’t see any diff.

The processor on the 6a is exactly the same as the 6 flagship range and open websites faster than iPhone 14 or at least same speed, diff very very small less than half a second.

The battery lasted nearly twice that of the iPhone. One finished early eve and the other (pixel) next morning nearly lunch time.

The mic dictionary typing was 90% accurate while iPhone was less than 50%, yes I have an accent. Navigating a paragraph while typing was much smoother on the pixel.
Finally transferring my media from my iPhone to my laptop was a right pain as it kept saying source not available etc, with the pixel it was as smooth as drag and drop from folder to folder.
There r also new functionalities like being able to point at a sign in foreign language and it will translate it to u automatically.

The smart watch that goes with android pixel is also a fraction of the Apple Watch

So what r the downsides? Only two I found, one no Face ID, which I never used anyway, u can do all sorts including finger print on screen or pin or password or swirly thing .

    Second is no wireless charging.

Which I never used until a month ago, and while I liked the convenience,
It’s not fast to charge so pros and cons.

All in all, to be able to pick up the pixel brand new sealed for 189 that takes better pics and faster processor in real life as well as massively Better camera, V iPhone at 3-4 times the price.

Pixel also has other cool things like the magic eraser to delete objects from your pics as well as it’s much louder speaker for music and calls than iPhone.

I am by no means buy a Google as I’ve been for many years now religiously loyal, iPhone follower, but apple greed of now charging nearly a 1000 for their basic handset instead of 500 not long ago, and to add to that, if I look at iPhone 12/13 and 14, not much changed between 3 of them, the improvements are so small.
So I think I ll finally be making the switch, good luck everyone. No disrespect to anyone who chooses either one, just wanted to give back something to this community that helped me plenty over the years with advice.

Thanks for taking the time to provide review, it's much appreciated. I've just bought this Iphone 11, being an Apple user for 10 years until July last year when I just couldn't justify paying the premium... in my view for the Apple brand. I ended up buying an Android Redmi Note 10 Pro after it was posted on here and have to say I've regretted that purchase ever since! Absolute nightmare, so unreliable it black screens frequently and has to restart and I hold my breath each time as the first time it happened I had no idea what to do, it wouldn't reboot at first but eventually restarted after plugging it it even though it had 80% charge remaining. I have no faith in this phone and looking on CEX they are paying £112 for my model, it's pristine with case and screen guard since new so am hoping I can get that which would mean only a minimal loss. However, I'm interested in the Pixel you purchased for £189 and wondered what terms that was purchase on? You mention it was bought from Vodafone so was that with a contract? I'm no Apple fan boy but in all the years I've had an Apple iPhone they just work, I don't have to accept giving up access to contacts etc for example when downloading apps from the app store... maybe I'm just being naïve but I fail to see the reason for that? Anyway, I'd be grateful for the terms you signed up for when you bought your device as it seems you need to buy either a SIM / contract if buying from Vodafone unlike GiffGaff where you can just buy SIM free phone with no contract tie in? Thanks

Worth noting iPhone 11 does not support 5G. May be a deal-breaker for some.
    siksik6's avatar
Very true, although 5G is a complete non-event IMO. For the budget conscious, 4g tariffs are also cheaper.

To those doing this for Google Store trade-in, sign up to Google One 2TB Plan for 10% Store Credit of £29.90 on your £299 on Pixel 6a (gets added to your account 30 days after dispatch) and go through Topcashback Plus for 5.25% cashback (actually amount will be around £13 something).

Also use Topcashback Plus for £40 cashback on Giffgaff if you activate the SIM. So pay £209 including £10 SIM, activate the SIM get your £40 cashback = £169 for the phone.

Pay your £299, trade-in for £325 = trade-in cash refund of £299 and £26 into Google Store Credit plus £29.90 Google Store Credit plus approx. £13 Topcashback.

So you'll have paid £156 effective and have £55.90 Google Store Credit = £100.10 for a Pixel 6a assuming your spend the Credit on something you would have otherwise bought - case, charger?

Thanks for the tip, I'm Scottish and even I'm impressed with this penny pinching. I have bought 2 - 1 to sell to someone on eBay and 1 for me. Money, money, money, it's so funny etc etc (edited)

How are Giffgaff's quality when it comes to refurbished phones?? Are they what they say it is or better?...or worse?
    DevilWithin's avatar
Going by the recent Xperia 1 IV thread I'd pay no attention to the grading at all. People buying 'good' were getting pristine phones.
  5. jake.james's avatar
Think the 11 gets £325 towards a pixel on Google store, so could be good for some (albeit could be risky). Just wanted to point it out if it helps someone
    TheCostOfLies's avatar
    Great spot
  6. krs's avatar
    Is 64GB too small?
    HottUKDealer's avatar
Probably about 50GB after the OS. Is that enough for you ? If so go for it. The 11 is still a good handset

    sabresonic's avatar
Shocking! Now dreading receipt of my phone! How can they describe that as 'Good Condition'? They seriously need to review their grading system... perhaps having one that states 'Scratched and Abused to heck'? Just to set a more realistic expectationso people don't waste their time! I know we are buying 'Used' phones but to describe that as 'Good Condition' beggars belief! I've never bought a used phone from GiffGaff before but suspect this like you will sadly be the last time!
  8. stuartc74's avatar
Trade in at £325 on Google Phones. You could buy a Pixel 6a and Google would owe you £26 lol. (edited)
    wotsits999's avatar
    Agree!!

Looks like a great deal for the Google Pixel 6a

"If the value of your traded device is greater than the value of your new device then any difference will be issued through Google Store credit" (edited)

I know people will roll their eyes at this, and say it’s not really a “deal”, but this deal is essentially just a second hand iPhone. If you go on Facebook marketplace and gumtree you’ll get a much better phone for this price. Who cares about guarantee? Apple phones are so reliable.  I got a 12 mini for £120 that I’m currently using typing this on now.  I got a my sister an iPhone 12 for £175 a month ago . Imho £199 is way too much for an iPhone 11.
    bobdylan's avatar
But then you've got the risk of it being blocked 6 months down the line when it gets reported 'stolen'
  10. Wolfyyy's avatar
apple convert. upgraded to s22 from decade old iphone and feel like it's a step down. iphone software runs so smooth and get nothing but buggy ux from android and the devices
    Wolfyyy's avatar
im dead serious, i really hate apple charging twice the price for same spec, but the hundreds of tiny decisions apple ux designers have clearly thought through really add up to a vastly superior experience, despite the jump in processor speed (which felt pretty imperceptible tbh)
  11. Nujol's avatar
Thoroughly recommend these - what a steal at £199!

Typing this on my owned-from-new iPhone 11. It’s battery health is now 80% but it still lasts all day no issue. Still super speedy, never lags at all (my previous 6S did by this stage), I know it’s second hand but with Apple quality this will wipe the floor with new Android phones at this price point.

    Great deal.

Good condition too with 89% battery health

Wow - sounds like I might've made an error in buying one of these then! Anyone get one that was actually okay?

I got a white one just received and it's in really good condition, no scratches front or back!
  15. Peter2164's avatar
I must be the lucky one 97% battery and no damage at all, I choose the white one. Apple warranty has expired
    dazp's avatar
Mine was white too. Looked mint initially but then noticed fairly deep scratches across the front camera and proximity sensor. Camera was ghosting too so definitely worth giving it a thorough run out. Sounds like youve done alright though 🏻
  16. locktheworldout's avatar
Really impressed with mine. Looks like new, and after an hour and a half of bluetooth streaming and about 40 minutes of Youtube/Safari it's still on 95%
  17. TheCostOfLies's avatar
Great price, excellent deal, but would be concerned that the battery after 4 years is likely to be (edited)
    Wayne_Hardy's avatar
If memory serves..., Giffgaff usually guarantee at least 80%. Anyway, if it's not you can easily sent it back. Their returns are "No quibble."
  18. dazp's avatar
Arrived this morning and will be going straight back.

Unacceptable scratches accross front facing camera and sensor as well as dirt in the speaker.

    Battery health was 89%

Camera had a ghosting effect what looked like 3 dots too. (edited)

    Mine just landed. Horribly scratched.
Tried to flag it for return on website but the order is showing as "processing" and I don't seem to have the option to return it.

Hopefully the returns process isn't too painful.
    LeeSpicer's avatar
Mine was terrible also full of scratches return process now completed I shall drop it off later can’t see how their quality control says this is in good condition

I've used every iPhone since the XR. The 11 is by far, far the best one in my opinion, feels nice in hand, pretty robust hard to crack and break. Apple quality and speed everywhere else. Battery life is actually good on a higher battery health device if memory serves me these were 3174mah batteries which i think is similar to even an iPhone 14's battery size. Just by far the best phone I ever used and would still have it had I not got used to the 6.7in pro max screen size, my eyesight is appalling so I need as big a screen as I can handle unfortunately. If you were coming for android or looking to upgrade from a very old phone, or need a replacement, whatever the case I couldn't recommend anything more than the 11.

Mine was spotless. Screen perfect, cameras perfect. Really impressed actually. And 96% battery. Crikey (edited)

Mine arrived today. Not a single scratch on it, one very small chip to the metal frame near the volume button. Battery health 87%, would have liked a bit more but well above the 80% minimum. Really pleased with it.

Just received my phone tonight, was very apprehensive unpacking it but but am pleased to report that it was in almost perfect condition (Purple)!

The screen must have had a protector on previously as it's blemish free, not a single mark.

A few very faint marks on back but hardly noticeable and what you'd often find even with a case. My eyesight isn't great but you'd have to look closely to spot them.

Have spent last couple of hours going through everything thinking there must be something wrong... and I thought I found it! When receiving calls, it would announce callers name (New to me!) and then the call volume would dip considerably, hardly audible... but I do have hearing issues!

Bit of a basic feature with it being a phone for you not to be able to hear it ringing! I spent an hour or so tweaking various settings but none made any difference so thought I'd be sending it back.

Did a Google search as last resort and apparently it's a 'Feature'!! Although I don't have Face ID enabled etc if you pick the phone up and look at it, it automatically lowers the volume!! To dismiss this you need to go to Settings/Face ID & Passcode and turn off Attention Aware. This 'feature' will lower the volume when you are looking at the phone! How ridiculous to have that set as default!

To think I was on the verge of sending this back thinking I had a fault! I'm just wondering whether the previous owner returned it thinking the same LOL! Anyway, just thought I'd mention it should anyone else encounter this 'Feature'.

My last iPhone was an iPhone 6 and such magic wasn't enabled but I'm glad I got to the bottom of it and if so I'm pretty pleased with the phone compared to those that have received what I'd consider anything but 'Good Condition'... it's clearly a lottery as to what you end up receiving and GiffGaff should be ashamed for describing them as such in those examples posted on here. Compared to some of the photos posted it's like night and day.

I'll spend a good amount of time tomorrow checking the phone out but consider myself 'lucky' in light of what I could have received... fingers crossed!

I bought one of these iPhone 11's but haven't received it yet but my expectations aren't that great based on the comments left by those that have!

I'd been an iPhone owner for over 10 years until last July when I couldn't afford a replacement so opted for a Xiaomi Redmi 10 Pro after it was posted on HUKD. Great deal (I thought) and great price £129!

Maybe I got a faulty phone but I've had nothing but issues with it so was thinking of taking it to CEX who are offering £112 and that was what I was going to spend getting this iPhone 11.

However, as said my expectations are not that great and was preparing to have to send it back but the current trade-in offer of £325 against a Google Pixel 6a (£299) got me thinking to give Android another go and I just wondered whether anyone has successfully taken advantage of this i.e. traded in their iPhone 11 from GiffGaff for a Pixel 6a (or Pixel 7 for that matter)?

(Having said that I still wonder why I have to give access to my contacts, photos etc. etc. when downloading apps from the App Store? especially when the app doesn't require or need access... in my opinion anyway? It's just another reason why I've been comfortable using an iPhone and its apps for all these years but sadly at an increasingly unaffordable premium)
  40. locktheworldout's avatar
