    Bought one , thanks op
Hoping I can sideload any apps that are not available on the Roku store.
Worth a punt for the price 🏾

Doesn't sound like it's possible. No Kodi/ IPTV available for this. Only Roku store apps. Can't sideload / jailbreak etc.

Can somebody tell me why I would want this. I see these and firesticks being bought all the time but I don't really know what they do.

I have a Hisense tv which has things like Netflix built in. And I have a now tv stick for some live TV which has disney+, iplayer etc on it. I also have a chromecast for well casting. Would a roku benefit me at all? Thanks (edited)

Not if you have a chromecast etc already, this is essentially a fire stick

    Introduction video for this model.

Some other info and links that MIGHT help in no particular order. I don't know if some of this still works or not on this model.

Be aware that Roku uses a custom linux os and not android.

Is this any better than a firestick?

I've had the Roku for a fair while and I've recently got a Fire TV Stick (4K Max), I prefer the Fire TV Stick.

Is there any device that will allow me to watch live TV on my 2022 Samsung OLED without an aerial attached to it? In other words some way of watching live TV through the internet. My wife gets fed up of the kids arguing about what to watch and wants them to watch what ever is on but I've just hung the TV on the wall and can't get the aerial to it without a lot of drilling and plastering.

When I was a kid we first had a 14" black and white tv and only 3 channels. I had no say or choice in what was on. People are so fussy and ungrateful today, with full colour, HD, 4K and 100's of channels and access to 24/7 streaming, binge watching whole series or seasons in one go. If I missed a program or episode. It was tough luck, unless it was repeated. There was no catchup, streaming or epg.

Can't you just connect the tv to wifi and use the built in smart apps on the tv?
Do you have a BT, sky or virgin box?
Get a Now-tv box, this roku or firestick, or a generic android tv or apple tv box?

Really depends if you want to, just use it "as is". Or if you want to be able to side load or hack it to do other things

Good price but worried about the remote.

Have the previous generation 1080p version and unless you point the remote exactly at the box it doesn't work, and sometimes not even then. The stick version I had before that had no such problem.

How do you set these up?

Great price… brought one whilst away from home and it cost £10 more, a bit less cluttered than my fire sticks

Such a beautiful operating system but let down by the fact it won’t support IPTV/Smarters/Purple player. Or at least didn’t last time I looked.

Can you chromecast onto this device?

Does this work the same as the fire stick add Apk on it ETC?

Will this do audio in Atmos for Apple TV?

When they stopped sideloading, this became redundant to me. Good price though.
    maddoglewis's avatar
They had to do it really because their business model relies on people buying apps
