Got one of these last time it was on offer and absolutely delighted with it.

In perfect condition and either it was almost unused OR it had had a new battery fitted.

    Incredible value. (edited)
    plewis00's avatar
Probably the former, very hard to change the battery in these.

Anyone have a link to a compatible keyboard?

Mine arrived today with 2 huge deep scratches on the screen and touchscreen not working

Time to test what their support is like then I guess Will be interesting to see if you were just unlucky or lots of us face similar. (edited)

Do these even get updates anymore ? (edited)

    It's Windows.

What’s the best OS to have with it, 10 or 10 pro?
    dert's avatar
Windows 10 pro is only really needed if you intend networking with a server, for general home use, home edition is fine

Looking for a tablet for my son for a long plane journey, something with a large screen. Is this a bit OTT? Just wanted something to download his favourite shows and YT videos so he can watch them offline on the plane? Also silly question perhaps, is it touch screen?
    plewis00's avatar
It's touchscreen, yes - that is their main purpose. This is overkill tbh, the battery won't be as good as an ARM-based tablet. Get an Amazon Fire HD 8 or 10 or cheap iPad (6th gen is good value) for a 'long plane journey' imo.
  7. TiredParent's avatar
Do these come with hdmi port to connect to screen?
    b1mb0's avatar
No, but come with a Mini displayPort, and you can get either cables that are Mini display port one end and HDMI the other or get Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adaptors.
  8. mcav's avatar
Provided this comes with a decent battery, this is a pretty good deal. Anything beyond the SP4 and with 8GB will offer a good user experience for topical use cases outside of GPU intensive tasks
    ChAdOx1's avatar
m3-7Y30 should be avoided in SP5. Also 7th gen intel is not officially supported for windows 11 but likely the machine will give way before windows 10 is officially dropped from support.

Received mine today and the physical condition is grade A rather B IMHO and even though I only paid for Windows 10 Home it arrived with Pro. My only slight concern is that running the following show's it's had 405 cycles but it's full charge capacity is only 33,830mWh compared to the 45,000 mWh it started with new

    powercfg /batteryreport

I am going to try doing a manual battery calibration by running it down to 5% and hibernating before recharding back to 100% when not using it today to see if it isn't quite as bad as the initial 25% wear stated by the above. I will also test how much time doing general web stuff the battery lasts before before when running it down to 5% before deciding whether to keep it but overall it seems great for the cash and the £20 type cover from CEX is great condition too (edited)
    SuperDan's avatar
Mine is here. It's ok - no physical faults or screen scratches, but it's a bit grubby and for sure it's Grade B.

    And..... 751 battery cycles

    33,010 mWh full charge capacity.

Ordered mine on the 24th, arrived on the 27th.
I'd say it arrived in great condition can't see any scratches, any dents.
SSD is one from SKhynix 128gb.
Battery cycles around 180, still at 86% health, I've used everyday since delivery and only recharged it today, so will see now how long the battery actually lasts.
But overall really impressed with performance, I mean it takes around 2-3 seconds to boot, even my Lenovo Legion takes around 30-40 seconds.

Shame to hear some of you have problems with your units, hope you can get them replaced.

It even runs CS GO, low settings obviously, but I do get around 50-60fps on a 5vs5 match.
    creepyg's avatar
Glad someone seems to be happy with what they've received.

I'd been considering cancelling mine but might as well hold it and see what comes.

Edit:- asked to cancel my order. Taking too long and I've decided I really don't need it. (edited)

    Thoughts on the stylus?

Will look to get the keyboard through CEX as recommended in one of the comments.

Does anyone know of a good stylus to get elsewhere or is it better to just get it through the same seller?

The rennaiser Raphael 520 gets great reviews from some YouTubers including surface/ one note advocates, and is only £30

Mine arrived today. Fantstic bit of kit. Great condition
  13. Sp0oner's avatar
Mine has arrived and powered it on and asking me to set it up with a marks and spencer email so looks like it's locked to a corporate account
Edit: hard powered off went into bios turned off secure boot which was set to microsoft and 3rd party ca powered it back on and went into standard micosoft setup.

Now in and done a battery report and only 220 cycles but capacity of 28690 out of 45000 so absolute rubbish battery life left so going back unless a battery calibration changes the result. (edited)
  14. meppr's avatar
One thing worth checking is whether you were sent the correct power adapter; mine came with a Model 1625 which only supplies 80% of the power of the correct model 1800. It'll affect the charging rate, but I wonder if an under-powered supply might cause some inconsistent performance too, depending on the power profile configured in Windows.

    List of power adapters here:

    support.microsoft.com/en-…c01
    Worrisome's avatar
Yes I’ve got the 1625 charger with mine too. Is this an issue?

So what- new items at the same price tend to be garbage- worst components in all plastic build. Buying a top-of-the-line product from a number of years back gets you a vastly better build quality, a vastly better display, and a SoC from Intel that is hardly any worse than the ones used today in the same form factor.

Obviously one should consider the amount of RAM for intended use cases.
  17. StudentGrant's avatar
Noice, bought plus keyboard from other eBay seller mentioned above. Thanks OP!

Sellers blurb says "at least two hours battery life". But as item is eBay certified refurbished, it should be...

    *"Minimum 80% battery life"*

If capacity of unit you receive does not match that 80% you could resolve under said programme.

And theres a one-year guarantee / warranty provided by seller.
    plewis00's avatar
The seller seems to say at least 2hrs battery life on all their items. Just use the powercfg /batteryreport command and check the design capacity vs actual when you get it.
  18. enginuk's avatar
Can these be used as second screen for a laptop?
    plewis00's avatar
No, not without some software, at which point you might as well get a proper USB C monitor which can be had new for less than this.
  19. Blades's avatar
I haven't checked mine with web browsing ect but ive had it playing youtube and it died at 5% and lasted 3hrs 40 mins.
It came in perfect condition no scratches or blemish on screen. 474 cycles battery now at 30,790 . Will test a little more before i decide. Maybe put W11 on as i prefer that. As of now happy with the condition.

Considering buying the 256GB version, Just wondering if it is worth adding the Keyboard & stylus, or buying seperately? it works out £56 more after the 20% discount to add both, just concerned there is not much detail on the stylus & Keyboard, has anyone found a decent stylus & Keyboard deals for this?

I have some brand new but open box covers that I’m yet to list on eBay. Not sure if it’s allowed, but I can list & link them here if anyone is interested. Mods please delete if not allowed.

Ordered on 26th. Still no sign of dispatch so dropped them a message and they replied really quickly but said won't be dispatched until 9th . Just under 2 weeks from purchase. Wonder what's taking so long?

All the HotUKDeals buyers testing them for them via their returns procedures by the sounds of it Hopefully it will be worth the wait for you (edited)

Ordered one of these last time - I got the 256gb version though. Battery life more than adequate, hard to compare to what it could do originally but it lasts a good 4-5 hours of streaming before needing a charge. I bought for occasional use and to use as a tablet for plane journeys and it fits the bill nicely. Included the keyboard and was of a good used quality. Also even though I paid for Win10 it came with Win10 Pro installed…
    plewis00's avatar
4-5 hours battery sounds pretty good and about right. For light use like you suggested, that is more than good enough imo. They are great little casual use devices and having proper Windows is very flexible over Android/iOS at times.

Would this work side loading apps to. quest 2 vr headset? As I think you need a pc
    McFlufftang's avatar
    Yes you can.
  24. Sweetchinmusic's avatar
Hmmm very tempted! Is it worth getting the Keyboard also from this seller? The photos seem to highlight that the keyboard will have a few marks etc.

Essentially I was thinking to purchase as a travel computer for work. Would involve using Excel/Word as well as a Virtual Desktop etc. Anyone used it for this purpose and know whether it would be okay or just terribly slow lol.
    bcs1's avatar
I would look at CEX for keyboard, probably cheaper and also it'll be annoying to return both tablet and keyboard if you're happy with tablet but not the keyboard (and I'm guessing they may not do a partial return)
  25. thebox's avatar
Will this run adobe photoshop and illustrator?
    Solee's avatar
Yes but depending on your needs it could slow down, if you're doing very basic touch ups it's ok.
If you're adding a lot of layers and effects the experience wouldn't be ideal.

Been looking for an ultraportable Windows laptop. The Dell 5285 has been selling loads on ebay, eg. here, but the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Gen 2, eg. here, no longer sells that well but has a similar CPU (i5-7Y54), better resolution, and arguably better build quality. Anyone have experience of these two?

Mine arrived this morning. Ordered win 10 Home, 256Gb with keyboard on tuesday lunchtime. Got Win 10 Pro, tablet in immaculate condition, keyboard a bit dusty on the base. powercfg /batteryreport reports 268 cycles, capacity down 45000 to 30870 mWh.

Rennaiser stylus ordered from amazon works a treat.
  29. SuperDan's avatar
I wish I'd received an immaculate one rather than a slightly grubby one.

And I wish it that it had fewer than it's 751 battery cycles.

However - my goodness these things are sleek! Very nice feeling/looking bit of kit for the money.

Now... What to do with it...?!!

Any good suggestions for must-have apps/features/games to install on one of these things? So far I've just loaded it up with all of various my music and TV streaming service apps.
    John_Melling's avatar
Heard they can emulate a Wii quite well and would like to try some free games I have acquired from epic/prime over the years. Would be good for watching my geo locked Turkish Netflix too. Plus will order usb c to surface charger as can charge of a power brick

Any other interesting suggestions would be good too.

Can the hdd be changed ?

My overnight battery calibration seems to have reduced the capacity to 30,220mWh from the intial 33,830mWh it said it had so I'm going to see if it can use this full new total capacity rather than suddenly shutting down at 45% or so yesterday before deciding to keep it or not

What's the largest capacity someone has received and anyone else had theirs suddenly shut down on 40% or so?
    wassap's avatar
I had the opposite on my old surface pro 4. It had been unused for a year, just being charged every now and then, battery report showed it to be 40% down, then I started using it for streaming vids on Plex and I was getting 1 1/2 hours, after a few charges the battery capacity seemed to increase, and I can’t understand how that’s possible. I’ve sent it off for a new screen, at the same time I’m gonna have a new battery put in, despite the age, I’m struggling to find a better portable tablet device.

Unfortunately got a unit with a Toshiba SSD. Read and write speeds are less than half that of the Samsung versions (1600+ MB/s reads). Is unbearably slow. Has a few white spots on the screen which is from damage I have read. Also a pretty big dent to side speaker metal. Will have to send back for a replacement or a refund. Which is a shame.

These are normal for this Toshiba drive microsoft realeased a generic nvme drive which slowed them down plenty of info on the web also the tosh drive below is a bigger drive so makes a big diff

Mine arrived today, cosmetically its in really good condition. Three very light scratches on the screen.

I ran the battery test and it's coming back at 77%. Obviously it should be 80+% according to Ebay.

Would you do anything about it?
    Sp0oner's avatar
The description says minimum of 2 hours standby nothing about percentage. Mine is on roughly 69% capacity and gets 4 hours web browsing.
  33. Blades's avatar
Ordered on 25th still no sign of dispatched. This was for a birthday present can i just cancel if i dont get it by the 4th ? Will i just get my money back or will i have to contact ebay. (edited)

Contact seller via eBay and request cancellation. They're quick to reply and cancelled mine without any bother.

I went for the 256 option with keyboard. The screen is perfect but the sides and back are scratched a fair bit. I have a Samsung ssd with 49 days powered on time and over 1000 power ons. The keyboard is in great condition.

178 battery cycles and ~40,000 battery capacity. I am trying to run it down to see if if shuts off at 48% like others have at the moment.
    deal_man_UK's avatar

Got mine yesterdsy afternoon, 256GB version, so just set it up, condition is very good, no marks on the screen and the case is very good, my £15 CEX Type Keyboard works well.

Fast boot up snd runs well with Chrome/YouTube etc, it came with Windows 10 PRO.

Just ran the crystal diagnostic tool, it appears to be slow compared to others posted here, it has the Toshiba 256GB SSD, Windows is updated and ran a few tests while idle, so looks like the figures are accurste, but the PRO feels fast to me for general use.

Whats the best way of charging these, let the battery wear down then fully charge initially?
    (edited)
    ecnirp98's avatar
Just as an update, incase anyone received similar crystal mark SSD results for the Toshiba SSD drive, I posted on a Surface forum about the SSD speed results, they said the Toshiba drive is slower, 1 person replied saying they bought the SP5 PRO 5 years ago brand new and it is running fine with the Toshiba SSD at similar speed results to mine, so it is not a sign of the Toshiba SSD failing:

    surfaceforums.net/thr…66/

Using the SP5 PRO does not really show a slow down for me, I copied on some big movie files onto C from a USB stick and was getting a constant write speed of 150 MB/s, which I think is pretty good, so I am going to keep mine.

It is abit naughty of Microsoft to have shipped the SP5 PRO with 2 different SSD's with such a large difference in performance. (edited)

Received mines yesterday. Overall pretty good condition with the exception of a major/deep scratch. The seller will replace the device.

I've had this exact model since release and I've loved it. I dropped it a couple of years ago and cracked the screen (still works just fine, but not great for using the stylus). To repair the screen seems to be around 280ish, so now I've just ordered this. Great price 🔥

Large organisations. A few years ago I was on a secondment to a government agency and they were in the process of migrating all their ThinkPads too, I think, Surface tablets. Circa 3000 desk based employees. I'm sure many other companies and organisations would be in the same boat.

Got mine today. The screen is excellent, and there are slight signs around usb but nothing not expected. Batt has less than 550 cycles and is and is showing 33k batt capacity. Done two full drains and battery is lasting over 3 hours, so perfect for £140 also upgrdaed to win11 straight away. 👌
