sorted byI went to 2 stores too, was given 2 different excuses, 1st: they claimed that sonic direct is not registered with company house and don’t pay taxes in the UK. 2nd branch said they couldn’t verify the status of the stock at sonic direct!! To me, these are red flags about Curry’s bad customer service which will make me run away
Also did this with our 6/7 year old TV a while back (got £150 for the old 55" TV and bought a new one for £460 with a 5 year warranty). (edited)
Is the Miele worth near enough twice the price?

Your first line warranty is with the retailer, that is correct. It is for goods that were faulty when sold, even if the fault only becomes apparent later and your cover depends on how long it is after you bought it. For the first 6 months you should be made hole, sometimes maybe up to a year. But beyond a year, no retailer will help you without having promised you any extended cover.
That's where the manufacturer's multi-year warranty promise comes in. But in my experience Samsung will fight you with everything they've got to not honour their own warranty.
