INCREDIBLE 4K VISUALS
Sony have built the sleek 6.5 inch OLED Ultra HD display using their much-loved Triluminos TV technology. It features a 1644 x 3840 max resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and the screen is now 50% brighter than the previous model. OLED technology with Gorilla Glass Victus delivers incredibly rich, natural colours and deeper blacks. With 70% of all Netflix films made in 21:9, you're set up for great entertainment. The Xperia 1 IV is also ideal for using two apps at once side by side. So, you can see more, scroll less and multitask with ease.

QUAD-LENS CAMERA
If taking photos is your thing, you'll love the triple-lens camera at the back - there's a 12MP Dual Pixel main sensor in partnership with a 12MP telephoto lens, an 12MP ultra-wide lens and a depth sensor. Auto-focus and object tracking keep your images sharp. It's easy to capture a huge variety of shots - from expansive landscapes to expressive portraits. You can even shoot 4K video at 120fps. There's a 12MP snapper at the front for selfies too.

BUILT FOR SPEED
The high-speed connectivity of 5G also ensures access to the internet wherever you go. An upgrade to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in combination with 12GB RAM and Android 12 ensure everything happens incredibly fast and smooth, including streaming and downloads. You also get a massive 256GB of internal storage.

LONG BATTERY LIFE
The battery now features a large 5000mAh capacity, giving you power you can rely on. It's also compatible with 30W Fast Charging, so you boost the battery to 50% in just 30 minutes. Boasting IP65/68 rating water resistance, it's ready for the weather too.

The hardware is great and the only thing it's missing is a removable battery, then it would be perfect. However the software is bad, it has the worst camera I've used on a phone in years and Sony are not using any computational photography which puts them way behind Google and Samsung and Apple. If you want to take a picture at night, good luck and all it does is boosts the ISO so high it isn't usable. When everyone else has a night mode, which takes a couple quick pictures with the exposure up and pixel bins.

The other thing I do not like about the software is it's pretty close to stock Android, but there are lots of apps you cannot remove and just have to disable them. There are workarounds to getting them off, but you have to go through that process every time there is an update. Plus there just isn't any custom software support for the phone because it isn't popular. Which is a shame because you'd think a phone with the 3.5mm jack and Micro SD slot would be the geek phone on XDA or whatever.

However because it is so close to stock Android, there are no features that you get on Samsung which I miss so much. Simple things like being able to hide the pill at the bottom which Google do not let you do for whatever reason.

interesting review. Stock android is a desirable feature normally. The camera issue I've heard of as a concern though.

Been using this as a daily driver for a while and I like it. You'll often hear people saying that it's meant to be a phone for professional content creators and all that, that's certainly who it was marketed at, but I think it works just fine as an everyday phone.

Great phone. Great features. But make sure it's for you before buying. Xperia's aren't made for average people, as noted by the massive comment above.

He also said no removable battery... which phone nowadays comes with a removable battery? (edited)

I got one of these for the missus from this eBay seller a couple of months back ("Very Good" condition, warranty till June 2024) and it was pristine. I guess I got lucky?

I do notice that the phone bootloops sometimes (once every couple of weeks or so), and I have to faff around toggling Bluetooth and NFC and end up having to do a hard reboot before it will behave itself. I wonder if this is because of the thermal issues? It's not currently a big enough bother to warrant trying to replace it, but I wonder when it'll start to get annoying.

The pictures and videos it takes are great, no complaints in that department.

The touch sensitivity on the top part of the screen is sometimes iffy, but I think that's more because of the dodgy-seeming Amazon PUWATRIM screen protector I've put on it. (well not actually PUWATRIM, but a similar-named Alibaba dropship seller)

    That's sounds awful

    Bootloops every couple of weeks?
    Hard reset to fix things?

Get in touch with Sony, use that warranty, and get that fixed, it's been years since Android has needed that kind of maintenance - sounds like a hardware issue, get it fixed sooner rather than later, imo

It's not something you can fix, and it'll get worse as time goes on

Strange how nobody is talking about the killer features of this device.
4K 120 Hz video across all lenses from 16-125mm.
True variable focal length between 85-125mm.
Unmatched eye, face and object tracking from alpha team.
    Natural colour science and processing.
    Alpha style camera controls.
    Dedicated two-stage shutter button.
Super quick side mounted fingerprint scanner/power button.
4K 120 Hz 21:9 OLED panel for unmatched media playback and editing 4K 120 on the go (I thought 4k on a phone was overkill until I saw the difference).
Immersive front firing speakers that sound more like a portable speaker system than phone.
Then there's the 3.5mm jack, SD slot, game enhancer, near stock android.

Not a point and shoot, but never claimed to be either. If you like photos to look natural and realistic, more like a DSLR then this gets you closer than perhaps any other phone except the 1 V.

Definitely a phone you have to do your research on before buying.

These are great prices for the hardware on offer.

I've swapped my Pixel 7 Pro for one and won't be going back.
    tm004e3204's avatar
How's the battery life vs your pixel 7 pro?
    Thanks

I bought one of these from this seller last time this deal was live. It arrived promptly, was completely unmarked, had Sony warranty until Feb 2025. Package included a USB cable but nothing else so you'll need a decent USB charger - up to 30W I think though it works with lesser ones, just takes longer.

My only criticism of the phone is that the fingerprint reader being part of the power button is nothing like as good as the great big one that my Pixel 4a had on the back. Better location, easier to get it right, worked more easily.

It's also very fond of popping up a message telling me that I can turn off the option to detect accidental key presses but then if you do turn that off it complains that your pocket pressed a key.

Also, currently Sony appear to be running about a month behind with android updates so the current version for it is Android 13 April 1st update (Pixel 4a is on 5th May update) (edited)

I have zero issues with the finger print sensor. It works first time, every time. I have registered both index fingers and my right thumb and you can register the same digit multiple times so it works from any angle.

I have the Xperia 1 II and also have an LG's V60 and V20. The advantage of the Sony is that you can play all Hi-res files up to 192Khz and you aren't limited by Android restrictions when playing 24 Bit music from a streaming service. Also, the speakers on the Sony are amongst the best on a mobile in my opinion. The DAC on the LG V60 is slightly better than the Xperia 1 II, but I would imagine that the Xperia Mk IV DAC is closer. The Sony has a better screen resolution and refresh rate.

I went from a Samsung s22 to this and I love the Xperia. Wouldn't go back to Samsung again.

Can anyone recommend the best YouTube videos tutorials on how to use god damn camera as its so complicated?

I just want to point and shoot, have no time to faff around with exposure settings, gradient settings and a 1000 more settings in this phone.

Will the point and shoot in Auto mode photos good as the Pixel 7?
    fishmaster's avatar
Look it's really straight forward, this Sony isn't doing anything beyond the realms of physics. So therefore the theory of digital photography is the same for this phone as it is for any other.

NO it won't give AUTO results the same as a Pixel 7 because the Google Pixel phones use computational photography. To use this Sony effectively you need to learn theoretical aspects of digital photography. It's not rocket science. If you don't have the time or inclination to learn how to use a camera properly just get a "One Size Fits All" Google Pixel which is a triumph of software over hardware. (edited)

I’m happy with this phone upgraded from a iPhone xr

What Sony really needs to do is be more transparent about the software updates along with Lenovo etc.
  15. the_king8xN's avatar
So If you dont care about the camera this is as good as an s22 ultra or not really?

I mean I dont take many pics. I do take some videos though.

I have kept my samsung note9 for ages but the battery is going downhill now.

I was aiming for an s22 ultra but maybe this would be a good upgrade?
    tjc2005's avatar
Not for point and shoot. If you like faffing about to take a pic this is the phone for you.

    Great feedback
Sony software like their cameras is very manual orientated

Was waiting for this deal to come back round, this is a great price for a decent phone that gets most things right - it's not perfect and there are better picture-taking phones but very good all-rounder.

Wow, the 1 IV must have the biggest depreciation of all phones

Good phone and am tempted but the shorter software support puts me off (shorter than the competition)
    Sandmannn's avatar
Feel the same. It is basically stock look. Don't understand why Sony doesn't give long support time. For the price they sell I would expect at least 3-5 years of updates.
  20. m7svk's avatar
I changed p30 pro for x5 pro and after few updates really happy with the phone and for the point and shoot is better choice as sony or even the pixel 7...

How is the screen condition of the used one? Has somebody bought from this seller? Thanks
    plewis00's avatar
It’s been fine, exactly as they describe it, some light marks/scratches to the body and glass.

It's a cool phone, but you do have to enjoy shooting in raw and editing in Lightroom really to get the best out of the camera. Always use my wife's Pixel for portrait photos.

Can do a lot with the likes of lightroom, directly on the phone. Especially with that beautiful 4k OLED. (edited)

    This or P30 Pro?
    Crossbow's avatar
If you want a point & shoot camera the P30 Pro, but soon running out of updates for good & stuck on Androud 10. EMUI 12 makes it not seem so bad though, & still runs quick as far as I'm concerned. Battery a bit knackered is the other downside. Bought mine new in Nov2019.

Went for it. Had the z1 9 years ago and was one of my favourite phones. Love that Sony offers something a bit different.

Great if you like natural photography results and full manual controls rather than the results of AI digital art (Google Pixel and Apple iphones) this is the phone for you.

I've been testing this against my Pixel 7. The results from this are natural when using manual settings in the camera, video or cinema pro apps.

You can use this as a point and shoot, but don't expect Insitgram images, you'll need post production in something like Adobe Lightroom for those results.

Great price if you get one in good condition.

Great, I bought one and the power button stopped working after 2 months
Anyone knows how to get this fixed under warranty?
