    Thanks. Op

Is it safe to connect these to smart plugs for auto power off?

managed to knock this down to the 90 pound mark, by signing up as a new user thereby receiving a fiver off code and also, discounts via work. (edited)

I’m looking to control this using my own temp/humidity monitoring kit and I wondered too. There's nothing on the box or manual to say it can't be powered on or off by the mains.

Having bought one yesterday (thanks for the deal!) and run it myself to find out, I've observed that:

    - Despite the digital controls, it does remember the last on/off state it was in, so if it's powered off by the mains when it was running, it will come back on without having to press the digital on button. Conversely, if it was already powered off using the digital button, turning the mains on or off will have no effect.

    - Pressing the digital off button to power down the unit, both the fan and compressor stop immediately. I assume this means that the immediate stop of the compressor by the ‘proper’ way of turning it off is no different to turning it off by the mains, so probably ok.

    - When switched on using the digital button, or when mains power is restored to the unit when it was powered off by the mains, the compressor doesn’t kick back in until a few minutes after powering on. I would assume as the compressor behaviour is the same with both power-on methods, it’s probably ok.

From that, I’m confident hooking this thing up to a smart switch, or more specifically power this thing on or off by the mains switch.

Finally, just putting out there from initial impressions, this is the best small dehumidifier I’ve owned, lots of little details all over that indicate that it was designed with care, the thing is physically well put together and doesn’t creak or buzz, plus it’s reasonably quiet.

Seems to be a new model? Can't seem to find any reviews on it. Saw £99 at a couple of other places too

PriceSpy seems to have a price for it back in 2017 at £219. Then the chart goes blank for 5 years and reappears at £249 last month. Looks like they've changed the design/updated it but kept the model name.

    £249 at Dunelm and Currys.

Bear in mind like some other B&Q models this one only allows 40% 50% or 60% for humidity settings. This is pretty annoying in practice if your unit isn't calibrated properly - not enough granularity in the controls to compensate

Errrr. I guess this a compressor model. Might be worth investing in a dessicant version for an out building. They work at lower temperatures.

This one says it cuts off at 5°, but it doesn't say what it's range is...

This or the 10l Meaco? Thanks.

Have the 12l meaco. 2.8l tank. It's brilliant. 5 year warranty and 6 hour smart settings. The amount of water it gathers during washing is crazy. Best thing we ever done. No more clothes on radiators making the house humid. Opening windows is not an option when it's freezing in winter. Not as effective either. It cost 5p an hour to run even on EPG. Luckily were on Octopus tracker so it's about 3p per hour. Lot cheaper than the TD. This looks like a good buy for the money.

Anyone know the energy rating on these?
    broady_r's avatar
    broady_r
I don't think you'll get the A++ type rating you're perhaps asking for. Looking at the spec 180w is max. usage. So probably just under 6p/hr on capped rate.

Hi bro, it was alright in my opinion, did the job, extracted about half a litter of water in about 4-5 hours and it was quiet. Air in the room was nice and fresh after use

This is a good price for an entry level dehumidifier. Looks as though it has a 3 year guarantee so worth putting that in the description OP.

Ordered a Meaco Arete 12L one .. It costs more but worth it as extraction is better. 5 year warranty and also low running cost
    dwl99's avatar

Is the Meaco not around twice the price? Although their compressor models are meant to be better at working at lower temperatures.

Ordered 2 for the bedrooms. We use a humidifier in the night to manage allergies and congestion so by the morning the bedrooms are very humid. This will help alot in the winter when you wouldn't open the windows.

On the box it says “removes excess moisture and odour while heating”, however this unit blows out cold air...making the room colder

has anyone else noticed this? I’ve bought two of these from b&q, both units blow out cold air. Reducing moisture in the air will make the room cooler, which I expect, but the additional cold air blowing out (from the top vent) makes the room cold.

I think that’s standard for dehumidifiers. The process creates cool air which then makes the room feel cold. Same for the Meaco machines I have.

I thought we'd had a used unit as the box had been re-taped, turns out it had been opened to have a euro-uk adapter attached to the plug.

Anyone know if this is noisy compared to the Meacos?

    Woods listed as 44db
Meaco says "Quiet Mark accredited - just 35 dB"

From reading up on the decibel scale, apparently it's logarithmic so an extra 10gb means twice as loud

44db max is an accurate claim. I measured. Some others like electricQ may well exceed the claimed db.
