The price is dropping quicker than the range of a 2 month old one!

you are trying to be funny, but range of mine did not drop after 2 years by any noticable amount. (edited)

The depreciation on ev’s are insane especially teslas. I nearly bought one other week after test drive luckily I said I needed a day to think about it as they were offering me a steep discount if I left a deposit then. Luckily I saw how sharply the price goes down after a year. Was absolutely shocked. Cheaper to run a bmw m5 as depreciation isn’t mad like ev’s and the loss on the tesla would cover more than the fuel on a m5!! DON’T GET ME STARTED ON INSURANCE. (edited)

They drop about 10% around 2 years.. seems to be holding prices better than most cars

Returned mine after 7 days, shocking quality and matched what I was told in the first place… plus it only sees 250 miles range unless you drive under 50mph.. I should have listened. lol

If EVs are over, why are sales of EVs accelerating and car manufacturers going 100% EV?

There's a call for all electric cars to be banned from multi-story car parks, as they're too heavy! Also, I wouldn't fancy going over a weak bridge in one too often!

They lease them, most people don't own anything... Wait for the finance bubble to burst as interest rates ain't going down for years and years.

Don't compare yourself to these people and you don't need a Tesla, it's a waste of money 🤑 so it doesn't matter that you can't afford it.

Your average worker shouldn't be buying £50k cars given the average workers annual salary is significantly below that.

You'd have to be crazy to put private money into an electric car right now.
    Cherryton's avatar
    Cherryton
By 'Private' do you mean 'Your Own Money?
Crazy... NO! It has saved us a small fortune over the last 6 years.. so much so that we moved from a Leaf to an MG to a Tesla.. due to a massive reduction in fuel, MOT, Service and maintenance costs.
I mean EVs are not exactly new are they? Tesla Moles S is 9 years old and our leaf would be 11 years old if we still had it.
Today we are charging our Model Y via our solar panels.(No tax man to pay there!) I can't remember any free fuel for ICE cars for a long time and apart from Veg oil (with the right injection system) you can't really make your own fuel very easily.

Now buying an ICE.. That I MIGHT be worried about.. they are like the Beetamax or Nokia 6310 of their time.. good... but the end is coming (literally). Only the rare and exotic will be in demand after 2030 as zero emission zones, green taxes, increase in fuel duty and Euro 7 standards will kill a lot of them off. And if its that bad how come Mercedes, to name but one company, are going 100% BEV from 2025 (in part due to Euro 7)

And you are going to buy a diesel, and think this will hold up better in price? Sorry. You missed the boat, the price reductions are already here. It's like saying price of flat screen TVs is falling so I'm gonna buy one of those cathode ray ones that will hold it's value? Petrol and diesel car prices are the ones that are "crashing down".

Public charging infrastructure is being rolled outside at token tick the green box snails pace, I don't see shell BP Esso etc rolling out chargers at filling stations and the EU petrol diesel ban is 2035 and likely to be postponed further. Am I missing something or is the EV party over?
    brettytopbanana's avatar
    brettytopbanana
The ev party is over and it didn't even start. It's the interim technology before something else comes along. It's not gonna take off on the scale that we see with fuel cars because the cost of the cars is ridiculous and the infrastructure isn't in place. Something else will come along (hydrogen?) and then many people will.be left with electric cars. It's madness if you ask me

Another thread for trolls to talk about diesels doing more miles per £100 fill up and how "hydrogen is better cuz grid can't cope with Evs" from people that don't get that hydrogen requires 10 times more electricity from grid than Evs

Still too pricey. Admittedly all EVs are still too pricey. The current MY pricing definitely puts a lot of competition to shame. I expect a bit of price war to happen but ICE cars are still selling more…

Hands down the best car I've ever had. Makes you smile every time you as much as touch the accelerator. I paid too much for it, but then I've had 6 months use out of it and got a good price for my ICE back in December. So not a terrible loss I suppose. I did 205 miles last weekend for £3.45.

Let’s give Tesla full credit for absolutely smashing it in terms of EV design and marketing…They scared the poop out out the mainstream established manufacturers…but that was 10+ years ago.
Now in 2023 their cars, design and (to some extent) tech (and certainly build quality) has been surpassed and they are desperately clinging on. They no doubt still appeal, but are now needing to cut prices even further to stay relevant. Reasonable deal for this car but don’t get seduced by “Tesla” and their perceived image. Have a look elsewhere before parting with your £40k.

There is meant to be a revised model 3 out later this year - with revised headlight and wait for it… a second screen for a steering level speedo! But doing away with the gear selector stalk!

A revised model Y wont be far behind

Speedo won't happen, the one on the centre screen works fine. Can't see them adding pointless parts imo.
