sorted byI've said it before but for anyone thinking of getting it here's my run down
I picked the F5 up on the mi sale a month ago and honestly I have no idea what people have been moaning about with it. It's the closest to a stock android experience I've had in a long time outside the pixel phones. minimal miui integration but what's there is usually useful anything not so can be uninstalled or replaced by your preferred app etc.
People complaining about the speakers must have turned off Dolby Atmos, without it they aren't great with it though they are more than good. battery life has been stellar, on standby your looking at about 1% loss per every 3 hours. My wife never charged her phone for 62 hours, over those days she was at work so use was really minimal until she came home then light browsing and Instagram etc at night. For screens on time, browsing etc you expect about a 1% loss every 7-8 mins, with brightness about 50% and 120hz screen refresh. Not bad at all if it manages 11 hours browsing time continuously.
Don't bother with the ultrawide and macro lens use the main camera for everything and it takes good photos. Fingerprint reader is super fast and reliable as is face unlock so long as you have some illumination even from a TV is fine but in pitch darkness it won't work.
A nice find was that on Vodafone, where we have a 5G mast that provides coverage at home, the Poco F5 does support calls over 5G without needing to "switch it on" this is only just being rolled out as far as I can tell by Vodafone but rather than dropping back to 4G the phone remains on 5G and places the call, obviously if the mast and network support it. nice to know it's supported though.
Overall it's been astonishingly good not even for the price, it would easily compete with phones £200 above its RRP. I've had iPhones, Samsung's, Huawei, Xiaomi, Sony, Nokia, pixels and more over my years. For straight up android with minimal skinning on top the F5 is banging with fast charging, nice bright screen which is more than visible in bright light, I don't know what eye searing screens people need these days and while I'm sure an s23 ultra gets brighter it seems unnecessary.
In the current economic climate and the price bracket for which the Poco is competing the specs all meet or surpass the competition.
If anyone has any real world questions about the F5 give me a message more than happy to answer any questions you might have to help you can make a decision if you were at all considering the F5
Nothing phone
Stability now vastly improved from launch with the OS being barebones, if you want features and you do not root you will find it hard to add some functionality. This is a great phone for the enthusiasts because you have a blank canvas to work from, minimal Google apps and third party warez. The feel in the hand is superb and has really grown on me

Are all middle of the road, the.
camera can take some good one and twice as many bad ones, it's getting their.
Poco F5
If you want value for money, performance and a decent camera, this fits their bill. My main gripe is the plastic build but at the £249 I paid for 5h3 12/256 I will bite my tongue.
Charging very good
Screen good
Speakers ok, they arrived totally untuned with too much coming out of the top speaker. Update 14.0.4 seem to have a reconfig and going into Dolby Atmos and changing to music form dynamic did the job, they are now on par or better than the Nothing.
Camera They are ok don't listen to people who say average, I don't have for a clue what they mean by average. It may not have a top level lens and auto presets but it has all the tools, and is capable of taking a good picture. It beat my Pixel 7a in certain scenarios, all cams have strengths and weaknesses
Battery life Very good
Performance is great and it is going to replace my F4 GT.
As a device it slaughters the Pixel 7a and Nothing, when it comes to day to day usage elements.

Software
As always, objective.
Software I don't seem to have the issues the small minority have, it could be software comparability it could be down to user habits who knows.
I am a real lean towards performance type user, but if you are a medium to light user the extra quality of the Nothing is a major draw .
I sent my phone off as trade in and it has gone into a black hole. I have emailed the people dealing with it 3 times but have not had a single response. It has now been over a month since it was picked up.
on the same page where you get to add your Mi points at the bottom,
the new user discount is only valid for 14 days, normally on the first page as you open the app this should be on top of the £25.
They should have merged mine
With vouchers+mi points under £300 is pretty good offer :/
Setting it up for her, I was WELL IMPRESSED for the money, the spec is outstanding, and super light to hold.
Highly recommended.
It's very similar, the camera is no improvement at all, infact for some shots it feels like a step backwards, this was my driving factor to upgrade but disappointed here. I couldn't get the fingerprint reader to work very well, I registered my finger 3 times to try and improve but couldn't get it as fast as the F3, this is one of the main reasons I like POCO as I hate in screen fingerprint readers (I also use the DUAL apps function a lot which you don't get with a lot of main brands). On my F3 I always use the super wallpapers, they're gone on the F5, I was told about an app to download to bring them back but they don't work the same so I got rid. Apart from that it felt exactly the same, no point upgrading at all, even the screen brightness was supposed to be better but I found the screen on the F3 to be much nicer and the same brightness. Finally my signal dropped from 2-3 bars to 0-1, I live in a poor signal area and so have two sims at all times, I usually get useable signal on both but the F5 loses 2 bars, I have no idea why but as soon as my sims went back in the F3 my signal was back?!?!? What do we need to consider in ordering this unit Vs the one in the deal, import costs, tax, non UK plug, firmware/ global version?
Thanks, not looking to undermine the deal at all, just asking those that may know better than me. :-)
What version of Android does this come with? mine hasnt upgraded to 13 yet, which is sad as the phone i upgraded from (Samsung a52) was on it. but Xiaomi are rolling out 13 once it is compatible with Miui 14 i understand.
Nicely put together from all accounts, no skimping and a vapour chambers has been included. Some who have thermal issues need to pay attention, software can never best hardware.
Heaven forbid people should be getting a good deal, EXPIRED
