I have one of these and I've been quite happy with mine, though the motor is a bit rough and noisy (but has been strong enough to manage anything I've thrown at it) and the riving knife on mine probably needs adjustment as it has a tendency to push the track out of position slightly on longer cuts (I'll get around to removing or adjusting it at some point but it's fine if I'm careful or clamp the tracks). But apart from that it's been great and I consider it a bargain.

If you search on YouTube for Peter Millard he's a professional woodworker who does in depth reviews of this saw and comparisons with others, and has an in depth track saw workshop series where he explains everything about them, for anyone new to them.

While most people seem happy with them, there was apparently a bad batch a few years ago that were covered in oil and didn't work so well, so that sometimes explains some of the bad older reviews on YouTube and elsewhere. (edited)

What's the difference between a plunge saw and a circular saw?
    Eliot_H.G.W's avatar
A circular saw you fix the depth first and it stays at that depth.
A plunge saw you fix the depth but then plunge down to that depth.
A plunge saw can do an internal only cuts safely (may need finishing with normal saw in corners).
Both can run on compatible tracks ( some circular saws may need adapters )
Without a track the circular saw is better as you do not plunge.
IMHO plunge saws have better dust collection.

Bit late, but for anyone interested:

It comes with two rails in the box
These clamps - ebay.co.uk/itm…788 - fit and at £16 are a little cheaper than the Makita ones.

Do you know what the clamps are called, the eBay link doesn't work anymore

I bought one of these when my Makita was away for repair. I took it back the day after as I found it terrible.

That's like comparing a fiesta to a C Class Merc. Not really a fair comparison. A decent blade also makes a big difference.

Great saw for the money, I bought mine a few years ago and tracksaws are a game changer for diy hacks like me!

Been looking for a tracksaw and there are plenty of good DIY reviews for this. Going to pick it up on the 9th.

Can't justify dropping 200/300 on a second hand DeWalt or Makita.

From first hand experience Lidl have great returns with 3 year warranty so if it is poor then I'm confident I'll be able to get a refund.

Good to see that if it doesn’t work out on First Dates, Fred has got something to fall back on

anyone know if this has same track as earlier models that prevent interchanging with Makita style tracks?
