Calibre Point Bike.

Some reviews online mention issue with left crank on this bike, might be the reason for the significantly reduced price. Possible fix is to use a thread locker when assembling, kudos to@suniil , @simba2585 and @Why_so_serious in the comments for suggesting this solution.

If you are going to buy this bike then be sure to tighten EVERYTHING and use thread locker Loctite blue 243 on the pedals and cranks. I have bought and converted to electric loads of these and I always replace the bottom bracket. A cheap replacement but so much worth it. Topcashback tracked too. Absolutely crazy price this. I've just bought another 6

Do you have any recommendations for electric kits to install onto one of these? What would be the cost to upgrade one of these to electric roughly?

My M just got delivered, thanks OP.

    And.... Built!

For those awaiting orders, you just need an Allen key for the handlebars, a spanner for the pedals and a pump for the tyres. Nothing more.

Just had a ride down the road and it's actually pretty well sorted from factory. Mine has a few nicks on the paint work, one of which is significant enough for me to email them... Will see if I can drive the price down a touch.

    Ordered.

Amazing price given the cost of bikes these days.
haven’t been on one in a loooong time and this is the price they were last time I did.

Perfect for nipping to the shops and at this price I won’t be too gutted when someone nicks it

    Cheers OP

My partner needs a bike for a 4 mile commute to work each day, mainly on flat roads/pavements

    Would this be any good?

Totally new to cycling so any opinion would be appreciated

he would be better off getting a road bike or a hybrid rather than a mountain bike, which this is. (edited)

🔥 Fantastic starter bike for off road.

Is this worth anywhere near the initial price of £625 like it says
    Codify's avatar
No. The most expensive it's ever retailed at is £355

Great offer and price. Ordered 2 mediums for me and missus to kickstart summer health kick. At that price its worth a punt. I know absolutely nothing about bikes, just watched a vid on what to check but they didnt mention anything about gearing. Is there anywhere i can take it to that will do assembly and service for a small fee? (edited)
    Robdataff's avatar
Any local bike shop will do it. Won't be particularly cheap though. You might also have a bike charity in your area that can do it for a donation.

Last resort, look on gumtree. Find someone who's selling a load of bikes, and contact them, see if they offer that service.

Or just YouTube it, and take your time. None of its that hard to do.

Took mine to gooutdoors Coatbridge yesterday and the technician was great, spent a good 1 hour fixing it up, some parts were out of alignment he mentioned. The front derailleur is still rubbing on the chain though. I suspect if it can't be tuned it's a fault. Might take it back again
    phatbhoy's avatar
Doesn't sound like much of a technician to be honest.

Thank you OP, I was about to buy Vitus Sentier 29 VR or Voodoo Bizango Pro (no stock) but this will do for the short term (to learn and gain experience with MTB and trails)

Now, someone guide me on the basic accessories to buy, please (edited)

I'm 6ft 3" would the L size frame be ok for me?
    This.Is.Dog's avatar
A little small but if you're not too fussy and not doing serious mileage should be ok. You can get an XL bike in a year or two if you're using it regularly. For this price it's a no brainer.
  15. JC7's avatar
So approx £155 for the bike, how much to convert this into an e-bike?
    Why_so_serious's avatar
    Depends on battery size.
£250 for torque sensing tong sheng+ battery. I chose the silly massive 20Ah and it cost me £500ish including motor.
Smaller batteries will obviously be cheaper.
Plus £100ish if you can't fit yourself which is relatively easy. (edited)

I was looking at the Vitus Nucleus 27 VR, is this Calibre better value? It will be used for recreational cycles on road and some offroad, nothing extreme at all.
    Grandslam1983's avatar
I just cancelled my Vitus order for this for the same reason. The air fork etc on the vitus is much better but it’s a massive price difference now
  17. Smugnamehere's avatar
Public service announcement to factor in 50-70quid for a proper bike shop to dial it in. Changing bottom brackets, indexing gears and tweaking hydraulic brakes can be specialist work.
    hukdbargain's avatar
Can I ask why the bottom bracket needs changing? Gears and breaks have always been perfectly tuned every time I have purchased one of these.
  18. r4w80's avatar
Do you know the bike's weight? Looking for a S size for the wife. Thanks
    Why_so_serious's avatar
14kg for the large so a little less for the small.

S,M & L back in stock for those wanting... ordered a M yesterday which has been shipped today but as I'm 5ft11 ordered a L today as that should fit better... will see if it gets cancelled (I imagine it will as quite a few Ls got cancelled yesterday), if not will return the M
  20. muycaliente's avatar
I'm 5'11'' - should I try to get my medium order changed for a large now it's back in stock?
    Why_so_serious's avatar
Can you get to a store?
I would order a large and then get to a store tomorrow and try them both out in store.
Cancel the one that's not wanted or refuse at the door if you can't cancel.
  21. ROWDY's avatar
Ordered two bikes for the family and finally built them today. The front break doesn't work on one, it's just really mushy. If you pull the brake, oil comes out the caliper. Tightened everything and topped up the reservoir but it no luck, breaks still mushy. Hoping GoOutdoors can solve in the free bike check 🤞
    ROWDY's avatar
    UPDATE:

Took it to GoOutdoors. They said warranty was invalid as built myself and the 6 week check is only for those built by them.

    (sigh)

I thought the conversation wasn't going to end well... however, they then offered to build both (despite being built) to ensure warranty was valid and make sure both bikes are working as should.

    Winner!

I'll be picking both up in a couple of days. (edited)

Don't need, nowhere to put it, but at that price .. I'll work out those niggles when it arrives

Haha I spent hours figuring that out myself and came to the same conclusion.

    Mine has been despatched.
    Evri.
Should I order another one just in case they lose one... Double my chances

Fab price. Any experts out there who could tell me which is best please. This one or another which I've read great reviews for:
    merlincycles.com/oya…tml

Read a review for this here from last year:

    independent.co.uk/ext…tml

Got the second one ordered but could always cancel.

    Thanks! (edited)

As for the actual quality of the bike and components, from what I can tell without assembling the bike I’m actually quite impressed, components look more than good enough
  31. simba2585's avatar
Mine arrived today also box looks a bit battered but not as bad as above.

Evri picked up my order today at 16:12.
I should hopefully have it by tomorrow.

Some back in stock but discount code no longer works unfortunately.
    michaeljb's avatar
Thx, just got a medium for 199, shame about the code but still a decent price, especially seeing as the vitus jumped 50 quid today to 449
  34. XBNormUK's avatar
I ordered 2 mediums and they arrived a couple of days ago. Very happy with quality, altho packing could have been better, a couple of very minor paint chips on one.
Mine are a dark grey colour not light grey, and assembly was simply put seat, bars, pedals and front wheel on. 4 and 5mm hex keys and a 15mm spanner all i needed.
Gears worked well from the off although im not an expert, and the only thing i have found a little bit tricky is getting the brake disc centred on the pads so it doesnt catch. Its easy enough to adjust but im finding it fiddly and makes me wonder is my wheel and disc true.
On the whole very very happy for the price.
Also i noted in instructon manual it says i should contact Go Outdoors and book my free 6 week safety check. So i will call them next week and hopefully they will iron out any small issues when i take it in.
    Great deal and happy purchaser

Got it for my wife, thanks. Didn't even read reviews at this price.

Ordered on Saturday evening and Got my order delivered this morning too! Have to build it with the kids. They are super excited. Thanks OP. Brilliant first post.

    50501642_1.jpg

But then it did sustain a lot of damage by Evri. Got few small scratches on the frame. They stuck the Evri label on the bottom of the carton so it has been travelling and delivered upside down.

    50501642_1.jpg
Haven’t opened the whole bike yet. Have to see what our famous Evri has achieved this time. (edited)
    kenco9's avatar
Make sure to double check it all when you unbox, mine has a completely snapped part on the fork and is absolutely covered in scratches... but it arrived which is an achievement for Evri
