I bought a Crucial X8 4TB Portable SSD worked for 2 months was out of date to return it back to Amazon uk 30 day return, so they sent me link to Crucial Returns Czech Republic for testing 17.00 quid cheapest 75.00 quid most expensive. Its faultly and it is at my cost to get it back to the Manufacturers, wont be ordering Crucial again.

What, that’s illegal? It’s their cost and their responsibility.

Any heatsink you guys recommend pairing with this?

I was looking at the 2TB version for my PS5. It is around £107 would anyone recommend it ?

Can't go wrong with this drive for PS5.

That said, this fanxiang should work just as well for only £72 (with voucher tick box) 2TB.

So need to extend my ps5 storage! Would a heat sink be needed!? An value for £ is this one of the better options?
    Hatsune_MikuwBK's avatar
Heatsink is recommended. Any Gen 4 drives should work. See my comment above.

Is it better to buy with the heatsink or not ? :/

    No

Is this overkill to put in an enclosure as a portable ssd?

    thanks

Guess it depends if you really need 1TB of space? A USB stick my be the better option for size!
Think I've seen enclosures for m.2 for around £14

WTF is a heatsink and why do you need it for a SSD? I remember getting one for my PS3 and you just slid in a hard drive to boost the storage. It all seems so complicated! Is it really though?

Ps I would have thought 2TB would be lots better than 1TB, I read that PlayStation 5 games are 200GB+

NVMe drives get a lot hotter than SATA SSD's when they are being written to, and airflow in the PS5 isn't great so a heatsink is advised (and only £6).

God that's cheap, had mine installed in my PS5 for over a year now works great

Do you use a heat sink?

I don't need more storage as only just got a PS5 and will only ever play a few games.
However, how much faster would games load on this versus the built in drive already?

Are we talking maybe 1-2 seconds? lol. Probably not worth it right?
    NoNamesLeftWhy's avatar
not much faster if any tbh ps5 is already very fast. (edited)

Would this be fine for windows os boot? Thinking of setting up a dual boot one offline and one on. But on two drives. Or would I be better off with something else. 1tb would do as it’s for music apps but 2tb would be nice.

I wana also do the same with Kali Linux.

For PS4 games that are enhanced for the PS5, such as God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone, does anyone know if you can run these via a standard external hard drive (i.e. not a SSD)? I appreciate that enhanced games using ray tracing and running at 4K at 60fps would require an SSD but wasn't sure if this applies to anything running at 60fps and, say, 1080p or 1440p. I'm hoping to find a PS5 on Prime Day and trying to gauge if I'll need a supplementary SSD or not.

I'm thinking about buying this to use as the main drive in a PC. I understand it's a fair bit slower than the 990 Pro and SN850X and this is reflected in the price. Just wondered if anyone here is using the drive in a PC (as opposed to a PS5)?
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
To be honest you'll likely not notice the difference in performance between any of them.
Sythetic benchmarks may say differently, but those benchmarks mean nothing to real world performance.

Is this better than the seagate?
    rad.'s avatar

Firecuda slightly faster but you would not notice the difference. I'd get this and save £4 and you won't have to order from Germany.

Haven't needed an SSD in years but with all these deals popping up i'm really tempted, might just end up buying one... NOT.

Great drive, it's in the same performance bracket as the Samsung 980 Pro and WD SN850.

Anyone looking for a heatsink, look no futher -

Is the 2TB for 98.06 a good deal?
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
Pretty good, it's in the same performance bracket as the Samsung 980 Pro which is more expensive.
The only drive I'd buy instead of that at the moment is the Solidigm P44 Pro for £110, but either will be great.

Is your warranty gone if you add this?
    Willy_Wonka's avatar
If you mean putting this in your pc/laptop to replace or add to the existing?

Then no, it does not (should not) invalidate your warranty but the warranty will not cover the new SSD
