    Two main uses:

    1) Appears as a separate sound device in Windows, so you could pipe voice comms via one device, all other sounds via the other, leaving speakers free for music etc but your voice chats/online meetings are on your headset. Also means you can adjust volumes of each device independently to fit your needs.

    2) The insides of a computer aren't necessarily clean from an RF point of view, and some onboard sound solutions aren't located away from noise sources. An external unit will suffer from RF interference a lot less, even if only located a few centimetres away. The USB link is digital, basically bit-perfect, so it also allows you to pick a device with a better output stage for driving higher impedance audio output or quality speakers than what the onboard might be capable of.

You can get a similar soundcard with this headset: amazon.co.uk/Sum…1-1

This particular Seraph soundcard will do 7.1 Virtual surround sound so its much higher spec than the Tecknet.

I used to think these are gimmicks but digital soundcard have got really good.
You can really hear the difference straight away as soon as you plug it in and this particular headset has great pitch definition and articulation.

The soundcard it came with seems to be universal i.e. I have used it with other headset to get the 7.1 virtual surround sound.

Maybe a daft question, but if I bought this and plugged it in my laptop, would I be able to use it with DJ software e.g. use onboard for deck 1, use usb soundcard for deck 2?

If the DJ software supports selecting audio input and outputs. Yes you can.

Silly question - if I have a gaming headphone with mic that outputs to one 3.5mm plug - which socket would I plug my headphone/mic into?

I have a bunch of pro interfaces that I use for audio work, but I use this when I need to rock a headset gaming. Quality is perfectly fine and cheap solution.

Is there a recommendation for something like this I can use for Xbox external audio? My monitor doesn't have an audio output. Cheers
