Can Google play be installed on this?
    KP777's avatar
There's no easy way to install Google Play. But you can sideload apk files of Play Store apps using Downloader. If it's anything like the Firestick or Cube, some of the apps will not run well on Fire OS.

A tablet with ads what the heck.

    £149 without ads

Is this a good deal compared to hopefully under £100 fire tablet 10+ ?
    plewis00's avatar
Tbh, probably yes. The screen is bigger and higher resolution, the chassis is all metal, the processor is a lot faster too. In terms of 'total saving', the RRP discount is also bigger I think. I will have to give this a try at £139 not that I need it...

How slow will a tablet with only 4GB of ram run in the next few years?
    sheffield788's avatar
It depends on what you do with it. Mine is 3gb, got it 3 years ago. It is fine for my needs, it is in perfect condition, and I may disguise it in a 'new' tablet and give it to my son who plays games. How will 4gb cope in a few years, is difficult to say. In a few years, you'll probably want another one with up to the specs. (edited)

just want a tablet to watch sky tv via the sky app. will this be any good?

But the Kindle Fire 10 is around half the price, if the size doesn't bother you that's probably the better buy.

At this size I wonder if a used Lenovo yoga would be better value. A 13inch the other day at 140. Will do everything plus has a keyboard.

This is based on the fire tablets I've used which have had questionable performance. They may be better now but I always ended up not using mine.

The Lenovo will do everything, but that's a laptop vs a tablet. I only use a tablet when I go abroad, in the plane, I watch movies and I do basic stuff on it. I don't consider a £150 as a replacement for a laptop. But when I carry it with me, I'd rather carry a tablet than a laptop.

Is this any good for connecting a keyboard and doing Microsoft office-style typing, and sticking some films on to watch on a flight? (edited)
    DealJourno's avatar
You should be able to. But probably need to pair it with a bluetooth keyboard if you'll be typing a lot, and you might need a case with a stand built in.

Great deal. For those not in the know you can add play store and remove ads via the Fire Toolbox utility

Just a shame it is lumbered with the awful Amazon App store.

Does anyone know if these can be modded to use Google play like the earlier Fire tablets ? (edited)
    PaulandPam's avatar
yes I've just done mine, the only issue I had was I couldn't sync my chrome browsers bookmarks for some, unknown reason.
    Everything else was fine.

You can get it for £89.99 if you trade in an old gen fire tablet

That what I did Bought a broken fire tablet in eebbaayy and traded it in. Got it redeemed within days. Won’t be of any help for this deal I suppose.

You can usually can get broken ones for a fiver and Amazon will gif you a 5 pound gift card + 20% off a fire tablet (edited)

Well - this is a great price! Obviously compared to the faintly ridiculous RRP in the first place…

Is this better than the Lenovo p11 gen 2?

Has FireOS improved? Everything else about this tablet at this price is good, it's just FireOS that puts me off. I miss my Nexus 7.

I can only tell by experience using the older FireOS tablets and my experience has never been good with them. This should be much better but I personally think the FireOS user interface is unproductive
