Cable disc brakes, not hydraulic. Great value though

The one thing I would replace at once on the 105 is the jockey wheels. The Ultegra ones cost about £15 and come with ball bearings. They're compatible as long you put them exactly like the 105's were. I did, and it made a very noticeable difference. I'm so glad I did.

Do you really notice a difference?

Still dithering on upgrading my Claris set up to 105, but need the rim brake version currently out of stock. Not sure I’d ever actually get the time to do it…

    Takes about 3 hours

That is insane value for full 105 with hydraulic brakes.

Was in the fence about this as it’s a short cage derailleur. Ordered now in case I missed out.

You can get the long cage for <£50, £30 if you're happy with the silver version

Great value - got this last month for £439.99 to replace a broken Claris set-up - came with Shimano outer cables, not clear if Tektro/Shimano inner cables - brake hoses are pre-bled and attached to callipers, but not attached to levers, so you can choose your brake setup - also includes extra olives and barbs - got a long cage rear derailleur and 11-34 cassette from Halfords separately

A good quality group set like the 105 is worth it, people who say you can’t feel a difference are lying.

I got the rim version of this when it was £300. Couple of things to be aware of, crank arms are 170mm, so if you have long legs you'll likely need longer (crank arm length is a controversial subject though). Also they give you a cheap bottom bracket (RS500) rather than BBR60, I ended up buying it seperately, but penny pinching when it costs less than £20 anyway.

Is there any good build (road / gravel) that already includes this kit? Otherwise, what lesser bike could I buy, upgrade with this kit, to make it an excellent bike? Weight does matter for me because I have to carry it up and down stairs every day!

If you are buying a complete bike, used is the way to go. You'll probably be able to get a carbon, disc brake bike with Ultegra (tier above 105) for sub £1000.
