Curry's deal is better, you also get a free 'Kontrol Freek Galaxy PlayStation Thumbsticks' (worth about £10 on amazon)!!

PS5 controllers have to be the most unreliable controller I have ever used. My left stick has developed stick drift after 9 months of moderate use, whereas my Xbox One controller that I had for 9 years was still working perfectly fine. Kinda puts me off buying another PS5 controller. (edited)

I've been pondering this a while. I've had PlayStation since the first and every one since, including several Xboxes. Each time I would upgrade my console, my old controllers I end up using on my PC. None of my controllers over all the years have ever developed any significant drift, and I'm currently using two old DS4's on my PC without problem.

However the DualSense is confounding. I've had to repair my original a few times due to stick drift and the prime culprit is always a buildup of fine graphite-looking particles from the potentiometer ring rubbing against the spring loaded metal dial.

Given the sticks in the DualSense are essentially the same as in the DS4 this shouldn't be the case.

My off the wall theory is that this is somehow related to the haptics in the DualSense - the reason the haptics are so good is because they are essentially 'speakers' conveying sound as vibration vs the older vibration systems which were typically motor driven. My suspicion is that those higher frequency haptics which the DualSense can generate are causing micro-vibrations in the potentiometer housings leading to jittery contacts and an over-buildup of conductive 'dust'. Just a theory, but possibly a factor.

Anyway, bought a new camo one today, fed up of repairing it lol.

Good option for plugging into your PC to play the best version of Ratchet and Clank.

    Heat.

    Are these suitable for PS4?
    BlackwellNik's avatar
No, and the PS4 controllers can only be used on the PS5 for PS4 games.

Two months of moderate use with this exact controller and left analogue started to drift, i guess Sony cutting corners with their controllers is showing up

I had same issue, used the sony repair/replacement service and had new one in under a week

All the colours come with a free charging dock , although no charging docks in either colour in stock anywhere I can find. Luckily I bought a blue one and black dock on first day , but wanted the pink one. Comes up with error when I try to add the dock now.

Aw man, I wanted one of the hot pink ones but it doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere. I don't really need another (already got 2 and they're both fine) but I might pick up one of the light blue versions...

Aw man, I just sent mine off for repair!
    HovisUK's avatar
Interesting.. mind if I ask what was wrong with it and if you know how much it will cost?
I have three controllers. One broke right when I first bought my Ps5, I made the mistake of opening it to see if I could figure it out and one of the ribbons inside broke. I replaced that but it doesnt connect anymore.
The other two have drifting issues, I used to be able to blow air into them to fix it but that doesn't seem to work now (at least not for long..). I could open them and clean them but that risks breaking the ribbons
  23. RJA964's avatar
My down button on the d-pad is broken not sure if it's worth trying to fix it myself since I've heard these are hard to repair?
    Guess_What's avatar
The DualSense is a lot easier to repair than the DualShock 4 controllers.

I'm contemplating buying a Midnight Black one, but I don't know whether the core components were changed to match the models that were released from 2022 onwards.

Could anyone who recently bought one shed some light on whether the FFCID ends in 1 or A. Thanks in advance.
    SinghSang's avatar
I bought a black one that had the updated serial number, wouldn't put much faith in it though mate, it died after about 5 months where as my original dualsense is still going.. seems there's no telling with these things.

Are these compatible with the PS4?
    james.robert3j8's avatar
    No

Do all the controller have a year warranty? Cheers
    spiritual_mutant's avatar
majority of electronic devices have a 1-year warranty as per law; from the manufacturer (edited)

why does it seem the controller gets dropped in price at the same time across many retailers? sony themselves giving the green light?
    1988dave's avatar
Yes it will be sony themselves as its a 2 week promo
