Not a replacement for your regular electric vacuum, but a great tool for small focussed cleaning, I have found it very useful in my young family household (my wife would not be without it)

bare unit, takes regular Maikta 18v LXT batteries

I honestly can't understand why this gets any positive comments; as a Makita fan, this is the worst-performing tool I have ever purchased of any brand; it lacks any decent suction, and needs cleaning after every 5min to maintain what little suction it does have and is just depressing to use. I sold mine on and got my very first negative review on eBay because the buyer thought it was faulty, then followed up to apologise after buying a new one and realising it's just as rubbish.

I mean, for £20 it's a "good deal" - but I wouldn't bother. I suspect the majority of people that get one will be disappointed

Disappointed? I was, 8 years ago and still am with the useless piece of junk. Save your money. I can tell you what I really think if you have the time.

Looking at a compare on makita’s website the 180, 181 and 182 are near identical. Same 1.4m3/min air flow, within 1dba noise level, 182 has slightly smaller 0.5l vs 0.65l capacity of the other 2 and also marginally less suction too. I’ve got the 181 and it’s fine for the odd job. It does get clogged up pretty quick with brick dust but is also very easy to empty and we use it a lot as a result.

Having owned one I have to say I would avoid. Next to useless and I’m an advocate of Makita.

Great price. These are brilliant, I’d like one of the newer ones that have a lot more suction but don’t want to pay 10x the price. This works great, you need to keep the filter clean, easiest is a very quick hoover with another vacuum. And they obviously don’t work well on carpet as they haven’t got a powered brush. But for what they’re designed for, a quick clean after some building works, they work great. Clean hard floors really well, great for a caravan or something. Last a good while on a charge. The cyclone makes it quicker and easier to empty and saves having to clean the filter as much and is worth getting, but it is annoying that it costs more than the actual hoover.

Personally I find this great. Excellent power, makita batteries obviously last ages
Only use it on hard floors though, the carpet style head isn't much kop imo

Great for hard floors, I use mine in the kitchen every day. It's a perfect replacement for a dustpan and brush, nothing more.

Any recommendation for a corded stick vacuum? (edited)

It's body only, no battery included which should be mentioned

Add over £100 for a battery and charger!

These are the dogs danglies, the informed house wife's secret, the shaft of the spear of a clean home - ENOUGH! Admin - confirmed by my car valeter, who took it along with my cash tip. Is it as good as a Henry or Dyson? No. But for cleaning up the couch after the kids have done their best to keep crumbs and plates in different vertical planes, or to give a four bedroom house a clean with your wife 5 minutes from the front door, they simply cannot be beaten because of their weight, size and mobility.

For the illiterate or lazy, don't bother coming back to whinge that it came without a battery.

Got one of these for the garage and DIY jobs, have to empty regularly, but it's a cheap vacuum and takes a lot of abuse! Rather than the £££ Dyson or shark..

Purchased at similar price a couple of years ago 🏼

Correct, I added the £5 postage cost when submitting, not sure why it doesn't show (edited)

I bought one a year ago as someone posted a link to an attachment to turn it into a cyclone type vacuum. I ordered the part but have never been able to put it together properly. it's like it's the wrong way round.

Same here. I sent it back the other day. The suction wasn't enough for it with this Vacuum cleaner. With then newer models which are way stronger maybe but these are over £100 (they're worth it every penny if you ask me). We use this model daily for about a year or so and paid £20 for it.

    How much the battery?
    Chrizy's avatar
Around £50-60 but you need a charger also. You can find them cheaper used on ebay
