    Battery: Minimum 2 hours standby
That's not 2hrs screen on time

One of several reasons not to buy from this seller.

Was thinking of getting a tablet to replace an iPad, we only use it for playing youtube vids on road trips, does this have a dedicated YouTube app? Or would it have to be via the browser?

You'd probably be better with a Chromebook for your usage hasj2. Battery life will be hugely better on a Chromebook also, which is really useful for roadtrips.

To give you an idea what I'm talking about, I bought an open-box Lenovo Chromebook Duet 5, from Best Buy in the US, for just £230. It had only ever been charged once and it's got a FHD OLED screen, and battery life of 14 hours. The keyboard came in the box, and it will be supported by Google until 2029. For this money, it's the ultimate travel companion and didn't cost the earth.

In the UK, I'd be tempted to spend a touch more for this. hotukdeals.com/dea…844 (edited)

Mine arrived today, replacing my old SP3 which had a dead touchscreen & boot up issues + a battery that lasted 2 hours. Similar specs this refurb is, but plan is to aim for a proper upgrade in 2 years time when FM25 is released with the new Origin engine, so will need something likely with a decent GPU.

For £126 delivered, I swapped my keyboard straight onto this new one. Brilliantly packaged, mint condition tablet. Battery life at first glance is plentiful. 2 hours unplugged browsing & playing the odd music video and only just to 85%.

Though others have said it's a lottery, it feels this is a bargain for the price. Fair value, even at CEX prices which is just south of £200.

Agree - I was expecting a fair bit of wear and tear, and poor battery - quite the opposite. Screen is lovely with zero marks or scratches, barely any marks on the back/edges, and battery only showing around 18% overall wear. Lasting very well on standby and some light usage, overall really happy with it!

Put home assistant in it and put it on the wall; you'll have a very decent home central control system for all your smart home devices

Is it me or does it force you to select add-ons like windows which adds to the cost?
I can't see how to just get the tablet for 128??

Use the code, Luke. Windows 10, no keeb or stylus.

So what's the price with the keyboard?
    Rickardo's avatar
If you click through, it allows you to select with a keyboard and/or the stylus, as well, it seems

These good for films etc, can you get Netflix on these? How much internal memory?

If you don’t mind having a powerbank hanging connected all the time then go for it

Oh I wish I had waited and read more comments on here before buying from this seller. Their feedback looked OK so I went for it, but sounds like it's going to be a bit of of a gamble as to whether it will have issues, based on others experiences...

It's distance selling so you can return it within 14days. Phone up and cancel

I bought one of these a few months ago from this seller. Battery life is pretty shocking and it would power down without warning occasionally. However, the big disappointment was the screen smashing from quite a light knock. So much so I could see the circuit board behind and it will not longer turn on. I’d be amazed if that screen was the original and not some cheap replacement, but of course I could be wrong.
    plewis00's avatar
It probably was the original screen as they are extremely hard to replace and glued down really tight, just they are very thin glass and fragile in the name of slimness - to the point where I'd say they're chasing millimetres they don't need to.

Bought one to replace an SP4 some months ago and it’s been great. Battery life has been fine, probably 5-6 hours of light use but I’m docked most of the time.

Battery : Minimun 2 hours standby? I REALLY hope that's a typo lol
    plewis00's avatar
It's not. It's a vague statement so they don't need to be too specific about each device - generally seems people are getting 4-5 hours use out of them but occasionally you'll find one with a weak battery and it will still be in spec according to the seller's description.

Wonder if this would make a good steam machine for touch screen games, hoping they'll make football manager touch again this year

All these low battery issues or problems is a surface even a used 1 even worth it??
    plewis00's avatar
Worth it if you want a Windows tablet type device, given they cost about £1k new but given the price now, expect some compromises.

I'm not going to buy it (have no use for it) but at this price it's worth a gamble.

The touchscreen is a nuisance unless you have a clear use case for touchscreen and pen (signatures, Photoshop and so on). I disabled the touchscreen on my work Surface Pro because of annoying typo errors when accidentally brushing the screen.

Touchscreen on Surface Pro seems to be a hangover from Windows 8.

The battery on Surface Pros does seem to degrade to a condition where unplugged use for more than ninety minutes is risky. This wouldn't be a huge problem except that replacing the battery is not easy. I'm not sure it's worse than other laptops in terms of degradation (Dell is awful) but the capacity seems to be smaller than most and serviceability is expensive and difficult.

I was looking into this for a media-centre use case with Plex, Kodi, MPC to hook up to a big TV. Because of the touchscreen and Windows, it seemed like a good candidate. In addition, afaik, the old Surface Pro models with the i5 are fanless, so it would be pretty quiet.

However, in the end, I decided against it and will be using my iPad Pro for this as well:

So, here are a couple points that may be worth considering:

    - It doesn't have HDMI, just miniDP v1.2. It will need an adapter and what's worst it can't output HDR.
    - It doesn't have USB-C (this was added with Surface Pro 7), so cannot charge from there either and it will need its proprietary power brick to lug around.

Lastly, for the iPad Pro or latest regular iPad and iPad Air models that can output 4k+ and HDR, you can replace Kodi and MPC from Windows with Infuse Pro on the iOS. It is very usable in its free version, for example, it does HDR tonemapping to convert HDR to SDR, beautifies your collections by adding descriptions, images, trailers, etc. automatically, but selecting higher-quality audio streams (other than the default) and some other functions requires in-app purchases. There are monthly/annual subs which are quite cheap and there is also a lifetime in-app purchase for c.99gbp. If you include family sharing, which is enabled by the developer, that comes cheaper than buying this Surface Pro and you can use it on many more devices among your family.

You can then plug in a USB-C dongle for HDMI output, add a USB receiver for an air remote (those that only work with Android TV boxes and not Windows PCs) with a backside keyboard that is recognised automatically by iOS and you get a fully-fledged media-centre that just works. (edited)

I suspect that this is not compatible with Windows 11.

Mine runs windows 11 fine. You just have to do the registry workaround so the upgrade doesnt check for TPM and CPU.
