Riyadh is a blend of the medieval and the modern, where traditional souks, interesting museums and ancient architecture are located alongside highrises, world-class malls, and restaurants.

I'd love to go there.

Careful if your first flight is delayed and you miss your second flight Wizz air don't care. Happen on a recent trip to Tel Aviv.
    haa0518's avatar
Yes because these flights are with two different companies wizz air malta and wizz air.

I personally wouldn’t visit Saudi with my own money and for tourism (unless it’s for religious purposes).

Main reason is when I grew up there I found the behaviour of the locals quite poor. There is unnecessary hassle caused by the police and at the airport by staff (edited)

So I've just seen this in social media, someone posted it online and it seems they had no problems performing ummrah & brining zam zam back. Insha'Allah this helps.

Have travelled extensively and Riyadh probably the worst place I've visited.
    A void of culture.

Great post OP, I didn't know Wizz flew to KSA! I wouldn't fly to Riyadh for Umrah as it's then another 7/8hrs to Makkah by car or another internal flight to Jeddah then train/taxi to Jeddah.

However I went on the WizzAir website and they also fly to Jeddah. I found that Larnaca (Cyprus) to Jeddah is a new route and seems to be the cheapest out of all of the options. Looking at term time dates (23rd Dec > 2nd Jan) without checked luggage it's about £500 without checked luggage which is still considerably cheaper than other airlines.

It also seems like the two flights are different subsidiaries of WizzAir and so technically two different airlines with different codes, so you'd need to re-check in luggage and also if you miss your "connection" you've effectively missed your flight.

Would be interested to hear anyone's experiences if they've done this for Umrah?

    did something similar this year
    Man-Milan (RyanAir)
    3hr45min stopover
    Milan-Jed (WizzAir)

    Tourist VOA
ZamZam on return trip from Madina Airport
    1 week with a 30litre backpack

Those are the bare details I suppose

Have passed through there on the way to jobs, but prefer Dammam on the coast where you can take a short hop to Bahrain in a taxi.

    Beautiful place, Dammam

3hr stopover seems a bit risky, especially with WizzAir.

For those that wish to go Medina first, (on a budget!) I've taken the effort to have a quick glance around Oct half term.
Remember, it's on a budget. I know the easy jet flights would've been a lot cheaper if you had booked a few weeks ago but use the schedule/route to find other dates that suit. In all cases, it involves a short stopover in Rome (FCO) then one night in Abu Dabhi (AUH)

Outbound flight options will be with EasyJet going to Rome on Thursday 19th oct
    Depart LGW 06:30 - Arrive FCO 10:00 £72
    Dpeart MAN 06:40 - Arrive FCO 10:40 £115
    Depart Bristol 06:15 - Arrive FCO 09:45 £122

After a ~2 hour stopover in Rome you get a WizzAir flight to Abu Dabhi
    Depart FCO 12:55 - Arrive AUH 20:50 £50

Stop the night there then get the WizzAir flight from AUH to Medina on FRIDAY morning!
    Depart AUH 07:10 - Arrive MED 09:10 £35

Total cost one-way for 1 person between £157 and £207 depending where in UK you depart from.

Obviously it's 3 flights, it has it's risks. Not much luggage allowance. Potentially cheaper if it's worth getting WizzAir discount membership as Family. This isn't a trip for everyone!

EDIT: Alternative option is just to fly into Jeddah and get 2hr train to Medina same night if possible or book a stay in Jeddah and go in the morning. Last train departs Jeddah Airport at 22:00

Using same dates above outbound from UK
    Depart FCO 13:55 - Arrive JED 19:35 £50 (edited)

Then you have to take into consideration costs of hotel, cost of transport etc.

However, if you are single or a couple or friends then I suppose the added benefits are you get to see a lot of different places.
If you were going to arrive in Jeddah, then no point checking into Jeddah, just get a taxi to Makkah, perform Umrah first and then head to Madina a few days later?
  21. Jaykay26's avatar
Does anyone know if any dates available in october for these prices?

I got this same deal for £55 as I’m a Wizzair premium (or whatever it’s called) member from a previous deal I signed up for. I’ll be there 7th Dec to 14th Dec. Bargain!

What an amazing price. I would ideally try to change the layover to a bit longer to be on the safe side and explore the stopover place.

You couldn't pay me enough to go to Saudi to watch "the future of football". First LIV golf and now this nonsense. I'll leave it there before my post gets modded but I think most people will get the gist.

Im looking to go mid/late November time to perform Umrah. Direct (one way) to Medina from London is around £400 but ive looked at other options and it seems that London to Riyadh and then Riyadh to Medina comes to almost half that amount. Has anyone done the same? (edited)
    greenflower123's avatar
just done madina then umrah, after experiencing the train i realised a flight to jeddah and then a £7 train to makkah would have been better

An amazing city, great food and lovely people. I worked there over 2 periods, each for 3 years. The changes over the past 10 years have been extraordinary. Food is cheap, make sure you visit Mama Noura (there are a few of them) and enjoy all the time grub on offer.
