Ok this might help some. I went back to Curry’s today to give it a more detailed once over.

    Pros -
Very good internal spec for the price. Most of the money has gone here and the display. Windows worked flawlessly and the overall experience was “snappy”

Display is fantastic. Very good colour reproduction and sharp enough. Bright enough to eliminate glare. Can’t ask for much more at this price

Keyboard has decent travel and the keys feel good with not much flex on the chassis as you type. There’s a num pad on the right that is good if you like that sort of thing, slightly bad if not as it gives you smaller keys.

    Cons -

Trackpad. Awful quality. Huge amount of flex either side. Quite worrying in a way

Build. It’s decent enough but largely plastic. It’s exactly what you think of when you say £500 windows laptop.

    It’s heavy and big.

Webcam is 720p and not a good 720 either.

    Speakers are tinny.

Can’t one finger open. Hinges are good the movement is fine though, it’s just not smooth.

So there we have it. Pros and cons however I will say that it’s £500 so expectations should be set. It was easily the best of the laptops in Currys at a similar price. The ONLY windows laptops that had infinitely better builds were the Microsoft Surface Laptops and the Samsung Pros (edited)

Is the lid metal as on the K3402Z? The touchpads on these are awful, they are silky smooth but if you have a rattly/loose one you need to open it up and bend the support bar upward to close up the slack, so many of them come out the factory like this it really makes me wonder...

The chassis is plastic but decent enough quality for what it is. The 14" versions of this have the better displays at 2.8K, 16:10 and 90Hz.

Mostly it's an excellent display with mainstream components engineered by a poor manufacturer.

My wife brought a similar model to this and just after a year the touchpad broke. It can still click, but doesn't actually make the click noise and feels like something inside has broken/seized up.
    Skk1's avatar
I have one too and it's the same as you just mentioned and eventually the clicks will either stop registering or double click when you click once. I have had both these issues and suffering from the later ATM, it's annoying AF!
The bloody thing even went back for a repair under warranty and they said it was fine! I'd been a fan of Asus since early 2000s when I first got into motherboards and graphic cards but this laptop has totally changed my opinion about them. (edited)

Can you charge via usb-c on this model?
    Sinan_Goekceoglu's avatar
    Yes you can.
  4. Adamsk1's avatar
This is awesome for the price but word of warning when I saw this in the shop it was of way worse build quality than the Microsoft and Lenovo machines I was comparing it to. The screen though is gorgeous.
  5. Tired.Ben.Affleck's avatar
What is the keyboard layout? UK or US?
    plewis00's avatar
It's UK format but ASUS has a dumb layout, so it's a bit of a cross between both - seems to have a long single-height enter key for some unknown reason.
  6. MartyNUFC's avatar
Just had mine delivered today by DPD, pulled it out of the packaging and it's got a substantial dent in the top case. So now I'm going through the Currys exchange process ughh

I work for a retailer that had a set of these on display and when we removed them on a range change, the burn in was unbelievable. I thought burn in was largely a thing of the past - alas. Keep this in mind when purchasing.
    EazyDuz's avatar
burnin occurs on ALL oled displays especially running static demo screens all day every day
  8. maxtesti's avatar
Who's gonna use the laptop like that? No one. I check reviews extensively before buying anything and I didn't find anything about the "unbelievable burn-in". I'm sure if this was the case, someone would've mentioned it. But nothing. Only you.
    plewis00's avatar
These are at risk of burn-in but out the box they are set to Dark Mode and dim inactive windows. If you are someone who spends a lot of time with static images (eg spreadsheets) then definitely think twice before buying this.

Thanks, picked one up. Also uses in conjunction with Blue Light Discount for an extra 10% off. If anyone else wants a code reply to this thread.

Edit: please use health service discounts method for 10% discount, future proofs for discounts in the future comment in this thread and on the main deal thanks (edited)
    plewis00's avatar
Is Currys 10% off for Blue Light? Is that a permanent offer?
  10. plewis00's avatar
This is a really good price - the Vivobook S is the same as the AMD-powered Vivobook Pro with a grey body instead of the usual dark blue (Quiet Blue). Powerful CPU, lots of RAM and storage and the excellent OLED. (edited)

Voted hot on price. But it's Currys, not a company I'd buy from.
  12. Axeboy's avatar
So tempting. 10% off through work and a further 6% off vouchers, so £423
    SteamerDecker's avatar
Great deal. If I was certain I definitely wanted the laptop, I’d be all over this. But I want the option to return it for a refund if I’m not happy with it in hand, and I think going through SmartSpending would mean if I returned it I’d just end up with Curry’s store credit?
  13. BarryZola's avatar
Just bought one too. Used staff discount for 10% off. £450 is good for this laptop.
    henry.ford's avatar
What is staff discount? Is it for people who work at Curry's? Ta.
  14. AmarSobhani's avatar
Was looking for a decent spec. Ordered it thanks

Got this yesterday and have up say I'm very impressed with everything.
It's plastic but it's solid, Wouldn't say the build quality is bad at all, better than my 4 year old Samsung and the track pad seems decent enough, screen is lovely compared to any IPS LCD. Got is down to £423 with smart saving discounts if you have access to that.

    Any i7 on deal ?

How does the xe graphics on this compare with Ryzen?
    Smoggy1970's avatar
Depends on which Ryzen. Usually Ryzen is a lot better.
  20. magpie2468's avatar
    Cracking deal for the spec

Does this have an SD card slot? Doesn't look it.

I got a similar one on Black Friday... I'm very happy with it. Love it. (edited)

An extra 10% off all Windows laptops code can also be used via Student Beans if you have a student to hand.
    EugeneVictorTooms's avatar
I can't seem to get it working on gaming laptops. Only tried two but the BLC code is invalid, even if they're windows based not sure if I'm doing something wrong.
  24. guitarman1's avatar
So is this the best value for £450? (with code?) seems decent apart from the suspect trackpad
    Keith1664's avatar
It seems a decent spec and no one is moaning about a dim screen or only 8 Meg of RAM, just the build.
  25. Leesp's avatar
Anyone know if the keyboard is backlit? The description above says it is but doesn’t seem to mention it in the reviews I’ve watched
    Tired.Ben.Affleck's avatar
    Currys reviews say - yes.
  26. Christopher_Price17's avatar
Looks to be the same potentially, with a Ryzen processor for slightly cheaper?

From a quick look, I don’t think that’s an OLED screen, which is the big selling point of this one for me.
  27. EazyDuz's avatar
Plastic puts me off. My laptop's typically last 4 or so years before a hinge fails and breaks off the chassis just from daily use. I used my partners Acer Spin 3 laptop which was all metal construction and felt very well made and durable
    plewis00's avatar
The Spin 3 has plastic mounts internally if you take it apart. Plastic body doesn't matter as long as the hinges are secure and bolted into a metal alloy frame.
  28. jaxx365's avatar
For those that have bought one, does it run hot and how are the fans?

  30. Kai_W's avatar
Anyone else find the screen a tiny bit blurry? The icons and text aren't as sharp as I would like them to be
    plewis00's avatar
It's not that high resolution for an OLED (the Vivobook Pro 14 was 2.8K) and someone said that's the subpixel arrangement that makes it look a bit blurry which might be the issue.
  31. Rambo_uk's avatar
Hi .Could you please kindly share with me a code for extra 10% off .Thanks
