Does the channel 4app work yet?
    wonderbrawl's avatar
No, it's entirely on Channel 4 to develop it. You can cast from the phone app to the Chromecast but there's no native app for some reason. I've tried sideloaded the regular Android app onto it without any joy.

Is this responsive? Quick to navigate? Loads apps quickly? I have an old 1080p tv I'd like to make smart.
My old firestick is painstakingly slow and plex never works on it.
Would this be a good purchase?

I have the 4K version and it is quick enough. You can also enable "Apps-only mode" to get rid of most of the clutter on the home page and only see the apps that you have installed. I find it much better.

Can I use my Google store balance to purchase this?

Unfortunately Google separated Google Play and Google Store a few years back so I've still got about £50 of credit on Google Play I never use

Any big differences between the hd and the 4k modern apart from the obvious resolution?

I believe the processor and gpu are different. More colour options in the 4K version.

Just a heads up to anyone who wishes to use it like me. I’ve got mine plugged into a projector and wanted to use the Bluetooth for audio to my Harmon kardon speakers. Whilst it works, it also gets really stuttery when I try to have both my speakers active. Bare in mind only one speaker is connected to the Chromecast, and the second speaker pairs to the 1st speaker. I don’t have this issue with any other device connecting to my speakers, including a very cheap Bluetooth aux receiver, only this Chromecast. It uses Bluetooth 4.2 which I believe may be the issue as the other devices which work fine use 5.0. Wi-Fi performance is also not the best on it and i wish there was a way I could wire it up like the Chromecast ultra. I only bought mine about a month ago but I’m considering buying a different device instead because of these issues.

Yeah there is unfortunately issues with Bluetooth audio. Google once set out to be able to create surround sound using the Chromecast but sadly it still isn't a feature so I'm guessing they've abandoned the issue. A real shame

U should only buy the 4k, even if u don't have a 4k tv, it's faster in every way.

    And currently twice the price.

Is this better than a Roku?

Cheers op, been waiting for this to drop again as missed it last time. Thought I'd be waiting longer tbh.

Anyone know if Peacock TV works well on the Chromecast? I assume you can sideload it
    J232111's avatar
    Can side load any apk

Got this same price from amazon a few months ago. Better than the 4K firestick in terms of ease of use simplicity as an everyday device. Remote feels better quality than 4K FS as well. (edited)

Anyone else having trouble accessing BBC iplayer with the 4k version? I keep getting connection error

    Mine works 100%

Much better than the equivalent firestick with no restrictions

I have a 4K Fire TV stick, although my TV is only 1080 res, would there be any benefit in me buying this?
    jack201's avatar
    no

I have an old chrome cast (4k) it has no remote and I just have to cast though my device to the chromecast. The common issue with the one I got, overheats. And so the screen blacks out sometimes I also got a 3k monitor from Huawei 34” ultra wide . If I chose to get the 4k version of this new chromecast will I benefit with it or should I just get the regular one like the one on this deal?
    AJtheCabbage's avatar
I've got the new 4k one with remote and have had no issues with overheating. I guess it depends if you feel you'd benefit from 4k, most content I watch isn't 4k but I figured I'd future proof myself getting the 4k version

Can you cast or mirror your mobile phone pls ?
    Jotaro_Jostar's avatar

Not sure about mirror but can cast.

Is there a way to get Amazon to price match?
    Kam-s's avatar
Amazon don't price match by asking. They might give £5 credit if you ask to match the price.
  19. DavetheRave777's avatar
Does this work on the same basis as the 2nd gen? Can I cast from Google on laptop to my TV easy enough?
    steve252's avatar
In a word - yes. Search CCWGTV on YouTube to see what else it can do.
