Are there any major differences between this and the forerunner 245? Thanks (edited)

    255 also has Garmin Pay

Would this be a downgrade or upgrade from a Fenix6? I mostly run and I am not interested in triathlon or swimming
    sashforth's avatar
Almost certainly a downgrade from the 6 Pro but more of a sideways move from the 6.

A lot depends on what you want from the watch. This is a newer watch with more up to date sensors but it doesn't have the maps / navigation of the 6 Pro.

It is also a little lighter which means that it stays still on your wrist better, helping the HR sensor to be more accurate.

Is it suitable for Triathlon? Or is it better to pay extra for 945? I want to do a sprint triathlon next year and need to start preparing.
    gnsks's avatar
It does support triathlon. 945/955 will give you maps but other than that there's no much difference.

I have had this watch for nearly a year. I paid around £30 more and I highly recommended at this price.

How long are the battery on those watches. I know he desc says up to 14days but realistically how long. (edited)

All depends 14 days if it just sits as a watch. 10 with notifications. 7 with 30 mins daily workouts. (edited)

Hey guys can this model take mp3 downloads please? Or does it have to be a 255 Music? Thanks!
    NeverMe's avatar
This one doesn't. You would need the music version.

Looks like amazon have price matched

This is a great watch but waiting for 265 price drop

Good price, but holding out to see if the Venu 2 drops in price when the 3 is released next month.

Wish these garmins would have LTE so you don´t have to take a phone out, and still be able to make an emergency contact.

Great price for a great watch. This has the same top of the range GPS module as the £700-1000 models.

How accurate is this likely to be in distance measurements for running? All my research suggests I’m not going to beat my phone for accuracy so what else would this do for me over my Apple Watch or Garmin FR 35?
    sashforth's avatar
This is extremely accurate at measuring distance as it has an excellent GPS sensor. I have no personal experience of the Apple watches but I can tell you that this is a massive step up from the FR35 which my daughter used to use.

The best way to learn about a Garmin watch is to read the relevant DC Rainmaker review which I have linked to below:

is it time to upgrade my vivoactive 3 music? was after the venu 2 plus but that never seems to drop in price much.
    brochan-lom's avatar
The Venu 3 is probably going to be released soon. So the Venu 2 might get cheaper.

Nice - time to upgrade my aging 245!
  14. virologist's avatar
It is worth waiting for 265? I feel I need to upgrade my viviactive 4s now
    sashforth's avatar
No need to wait for the 265. It was launched in March. Although there are other differences, the 265 is effectively a 255 but with an Amoled screen. (edited)

Great deal op. If you have bluelight discount you can buy curry's giftcards get another 4.5% off. Got it for 219 😁

Lost my 245 music last week on holiday so this may be the answer... I'd actually like the descent 2 but nearly three times the price...

I'm not feeling too sorry about the 245 going. It's battery in actual usage felt a big step down from the 230 which rarely needed a charge. I see this is quite a bit better. I also never ended up using the music feature as not a hassle to take the phone. (edited)
    RL991166's avatar
Agreed but think it's just the music feature on it (as when not using that it lasts fine) - would be interesting to see how the battery compares on the 255 music!
  17. RobBraz's avatar
This was the battery life I loved about the 230. Made up due the nasty proprietary charging connection:

    Up to 12 wk.
Up to 11 wk. with activity tracking
Up to 5 wk. with activity tracking and smartphone notifications
Up to 16 hr. in GPS mode
Up to 12 hr. in GPS + GLONASS mode

The Forerunner 255 is a good entry smart health watch. I was going to get it a few month's ago but then I saw the Garmin Forerunner 955. Which is far better. If you want a watch to star with and not the full feature set the 255 is a great watch to star your training with. If you can afford the 955 then get that watch.
    petena5h's avatar
You can't disagree with that assessment, but the 955 is about £200 more, so you're getting £200 more worth of features.
